Ho Chi Minh City keeps its hotels in three pockets that suit very different trips: District 1 around Ben Thanh Market, the belt beside Tan Son Nhat airport, and the backpacker streets of Pham Ngu Lao. The six hotels below are two in each area, every name links to its own page, and average rates run from about US$23 to US$286 a night.
The three areas sit within a few kilometres of each other, so the choice is about your mornings and evenings more than about distance. The centre is for walking to the market, the Opera House and the river. The airport belt is for a flight that leaves before dawn. Pham Ngu Lao is for bars, cheap rooms and a short walk into District 1.
Area | Best for | Average rates |
|---|---|---|
Ho Chi Minh City Centre | First visits, Ben Thanh Market and Nguyen Hue on foot, the only five star on this list | US$192 to US$286 |
Tan Son Nhat Airport Area | Early flights, long layovers, the cheapest rooms on this list | US$23 to US$30 |
Pham Ngu Lao Street Area | Nightlife, backpacker rates, an easy walk to Ben Thanh Market | US$58 to US$97 |
The areas barely overlap. The centre holds the market, the museums and the Opera House, the airport belt holds the runways, and Pham Ngu Lao holds the bars that stay open after midnight. The centre is the only one of the three with a five star, and the only one where the market and the museums all sit inside a kilometre.
The centre is District 1, the grid between Ben Thanh Market and the Saigon River. The market, the Museum of Fine Arts, Independence Palace and the Opera House all sit inside a kilometre, Nguyen Hue is the pedestrian boulevard running down to the water, and Ben Thanh station anchors the market end of the new metro line. Book it for a first visit, when the sights and the restaurants are all on foot.

Fusion is the splurge, with the pool, the spa and the Opera House at the door. Dream Palace suits a market-first trip: a gym, free laundry and a business centre, at a rate about a third lower. It is also 740 m from Pham Ngu Lao, so the bar street stays on foot from the centre.
The airport belt sits around Tan Son Nhat, an airport unusually close to the city, a few kilometres north-west of District 1. This is a base for a flight that leaves before dawn or lands after midnight, when the terminal matters more than the sights, and the streets around it are local and quiet. Check the shuttle timing before booking a 5am departure.
Sunrise is the one for a late landing, because the pick-up is arranged with the room and the desk never closes. The Crown is the cheaper of the two, takes check-ins until 23:30, and asks for your flight details a day ahead.
Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien are the same few blocks: travel agents, bars and the cheapest rooms in District 1. Bui Vien is the walking street that stays loud until late, the lanes behind it hold guest houses and noodle shops, and Ben Thanh Market is under a kilometre away. Book it for nightlife, and for a centre that is still walkable.

Amory is the only hotel on this list outside the centre with a pool, which makes it the pick for nightlife plus a swim. Nicecy is the room-only option, at a rate a little above half of Amory's.
Sorted by average rate, the six fall into three bands, and the bands cut across areas.
Band | Hotels | What the band buys |
|---|---|---|
Under US$60 | The Crown Airport Hotel; Sunrise Airport Hotel; Nicecy Hotel Pham Ngu Lao | A three star beside the airport with a paid shuttle, or a three star on Pham Ngu Lao at a room-only rate |
US$60 to US$150 | Amory Hotel - Bui Vien Walking Street | A four star on the bar street with a rooftop pool and free breakfast |
Above US$150 | Dream Palace Ben Thanh Grand Hotel; Fusion Original Saigon Centre | A four star at Ben Thanh Market with a gym, or a five star on Le Loi with a pool and a spa |
Price alone will not pick your base, since the cheapest band holds both airport hotels and the backpacker street. Inside a band, the room changes: a pool and breakfast at Amory, a gym and free laundry at Dream Palace, a spa and an infinity pool at Fusion.
Four things decide more of a stay than the star rating does.
