Hong Kong hotel prices follow the MTR map more than the star rating. Tsim Sha Tsui puts the harbour and the Star Ferry on foot, Wan Chai puts offices and the convention centre on the doorstep, and Tsuen Wan trades a central address for bigger rooms and a pool. The six hotels fall between US$172 and US$379 a night.
Pick the area before the hotel. It decides how much of the day you spend moving and how much you pay for a room of the same standard. Tsim Sha Tsui is the Kowloon waterfront, with shopping, museums and nightlife packed into a few streets and several MTR lines running through it. Wan Chai and Causeway Bay make up the Hong Kong Island side, a mixed business and shopping district on the Island Line and the East Rail Line. Tsuen Wan sits in the New Territories, and its hotels sell space and pools for less.
Area | Best for | Average rates |
|---|---|---|
Tsim Sha Tsui | First visits, harbour and Star Ferry on foot | US$263 to US$289 |
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay | Business trips, convention centre, late dinners | US$176 to US$379 |
Tsuen Wan | Bigger rooms, pools, lower rates | US$172 to US$231 |
Each area answers a different trip. Tsim Sha Tsui is the one for a first visit, when the harbour, the Star Ferry and the museums are the point of the day and a platform should be a minute away. Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are for a working week, with the convention centre, offices, trams and late restaurants inside the district. Tsuen Wan is for a calmer evening away from the harbour crowds, and for travellers who do not mind a train ride back at night.
All six are three to five star. Inside one area, the street, the station distance and what comes with the room separate the two hotels more than the star count does.
Tsim Sha Tsui is the base for a first visit. The Star Ferry, the harbourfront and the museums sit inside the district, Nathan Road runs through the middle of it, and the Tsuen Wan Line and the Tuen Ma Line both stop here. The promenade faces the island skyline across the water, so the evening needs no planning.

The Kowloon Hotel is the first-timer's pick. Nathan Road shops and restaurants are outside the door, East Tsim Sha Tsui station is about 30 m away, and the Star Ferry is 600 m down the road for the crossing to Hong Kong Island. B P International suits a quieter trip by Kowloon Park, with Jordan station 400 m away, Temple Street 430 m away and West Kowloon high-speed rail close enough to walk with a bag.
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay carry the island side of a work trip. Offices, the convention centre, trams and late restaurants sit inside the two districts, so a meeting, a dinner and the ride back need no planning. The two districts sit on the Island Line, the East Rail Line reaches the convention centre side, and the trams run the length of the waterfront for short hops.

Hopewell is the one for a week that mixes meetings with downtime: the pool and pool bar sit upstairs, two restaurants are on site, and Wan Chai station is 190 m from the door. The Charterhouse suits a shorter working stay, with a gym, a buffet breakfast and Causeway Bay station 510 m away.
Tsuen Wan is the quiet base, in the New Territories west of the harbour. Tsuen Wan West station links it with Kowloon in a few stops, the streets around Yeung Uk Road hold the markets and the malls, and Ting Kau adds the beach and the bridge views. Rooms here are bigger for the money, which is why longer stays and families pick it.

Nina suits a family that wants shops and a station within a few minutes, with Tsuen Wan West station 320 m away, Yeung Uk Road Market 200 m and the shops of Nina Mall starting within about 100 m. Royal View suits a slower stay on the water, with Ting Kau Beach 240 m down the road, sea view rooms and a free shuttle to Tsuen Wan and Tsuen Wan West.
West Kowloon is the high-speed rail terminus, so the walk from the platform decides the first night. B P International on Austin Road is about 980 m away, a walk of roughly 12 minutes with a bag. Royal View Hotel in Ting Kau is 13.8 km out, and the Wan Chai and Tsuen Wan hotels sit across the harbour or further into the New Territories, which means a taxi or a metro ride.
B P International keeps the first night simple. The Kowloon Hotel also works if the harbour and the Star Ferry are the plan for the evening, and its door is 30 m from East Tsim Sha Tsui station.
Prices fall into three bands.
Band | Hotels | What the band buys |
|---|---|---|
Under US$200 | Royal View Hotel; The Charterhouse Causeway Bay | A four star with a pool and sea views at Ting Kau, or a three star in Wan Chai |
US$200 to US$300 | Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West; The Kowloon Hotel; B P International | A five star with an infinity pool in Tsuen Wan, or a four star in Tsim Sha Tsui |
Above US$300 | Hopewell Hotel | A five star on Hong Kong Island with a pool and a free gym |
The middle band holds three hotels across two areas, so the rate alone will not pick your base. Station distance will: East Tsim Sha Tsui is 30 m from The Kowloon Hotel, and Tsuen Wan West is 320 m from Nina.
Above US$300 the choice is Hopewell. The rate buys the pool, two restaurants on site and a 190 m walk to Wan Chai station.
