Do I Need to Fill in a Malaysia Arrival Card (MDAC)?

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia
Yes, all foreign nationals entering Malaysia in 2026 must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). Implemented on December 1, 2023, MDAC fully replaced the traditional paper arrival card system and is a mandatory immigration requirement—not a visa. MDAC applies to all entry modes (air, land, sea) and all visitor types, including tourists, business travelers, students, and work pass holders.
Every traveler needs their own MDAC, including infants and young children—group submissions are not available (each person must complete their own form)
Exceptions (no MDAC needed):
- Malaysian citizens and permanent residents
- Transit passengers who remain in the international transit area and do not clear Malaysian immigration
- Diplomats and official government representatives with special entry privileges
What is MDAC and What Does It Do?

Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) is an electronic immigration form developed by Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia) to streamline border control processes and enhance security. It serves three key purposes:
- Records essential traveler information (personal details, travel itinerary, accommodation, health status) for immigration authorities
- Enables faster processing at immigration counters and self-service auto gates (for eligible travelers)
- Replaces the outdated paper arrival cards, reducing wait times and environmental impact
MDAC is separate from a visa—even visa-exempt travelers must complete it before arrival.
When to Apply & Submit a Malaysia Arrival Card?

Source: MDAC Malaysia
You can only submit your MDAC within 72 hours (3 days) of your arrival in Malaysia, including the day of arrival. The official system will not accept submissions made earlier than this window to ensure your information remains current.
Example: If your flight lands in Kuala Lumpur on 1 March, you can submit your MDAC from 28 February onwards.
For stress-free travel, submit your MDAC 1-2 days before arrival—avoid last-minute submissions (e.g., airport check-in) to prevent delays from internet issues or form errors.
How to Fill & Submit Malaysia Arrival Card (MDAC) Online

How to Fill & Submit Malaysia Arrival Card (MDAC) Online Source: MDAC Malaysia
Follow these clear steps to complete your MDAC accurately—core personal details cannot be edited after submission, so double-check every field before finalizing.
Step 1: Wait for the 72-hour submission window
Access the official MDAC portal only within 72 hours of your arrival—earlier submissions will be rejected.
Step 2: Access the official MDAC website
Go to https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main and click Register to begin the process.
Step 3: Information to Prepare
Gather these details before starting—have them ready to avoid delays:
- Personal: Passport number, full legal name (exact as passport), date of birth, nationality, gender, international contact number, email address
- Travel: Arrival date, travel mode (air/land/sea), flight/vehicle/ferry number, country of embarkation, intended departure date
- Accommodation: Full Malaysia address (state, city, postcode, street); or hotel name + complete city
- Health: Recent travel history, current health status, and any relevant vaccination information
Note: Use only passport MRZ line spelling/transliteration—no special characters, accents, or nicknames; all letters uppercase for alphanumeric fields.
Step 4: Fill in your details
Enter your personal, travel, accommodation, and health information as prompted by the form—mandatory fields are marked with * for clarity. Answer health declaration questions truthfully—false declarations may result in entry denial or fines.
Step 5: Review and confirm your details
Check every field for typos or mismatches, especially passport number and name—this is the most common cause of submission issues. Once submitted, you cannot edit core personal details (name, passport number, DOB, nationality)—only minor updates (e.g., flight time) are allowed before arrival.
Step 6: Submit and receive PIN code
After reviewing, click Submit. You will immediately receive a PIN code via email—this is essential for accessing your confirmation later.
Step 7: Verify and save your confirmation
Return to the MDAC website and click Check Registration (top right corner). Enter your passport number and PIN code to view, download, or print your confirmation document with a unique QR code. Save the PDF digitally (phone/tablet, offline access recommended) and print a physical copy as a backup—you’ll need this for airline check-in and immigration clearance.

Requirements for the Malaysia Arrival Card (MDAC)

Requirements for MDAC covers 2 sets of rules: MDAC submission requirements (to fill the form successfully) and Malaysia entry requirements (to clear immigration after submitting your MDAC). All rules are strictly enforced by Malaysian Immigration.
MDAC Submission Requirements
- Only submit via the official MDAC portal—no other channels are accepted.
- All information must match your passport exactly (spelling, numbers, dates).
- Declare all health and travel information truthfully—false declarations violate Malaysian law and may result in entry denial or fines.
- No fee is required for submission—any payment request is fraudulent.
- Each traveler must complete their own form—group submissions are not availablemdac-malaysia.com.
Malaysia Entry Requirements (Must Have for Immigration Clearance)
- Valid passport: Minimum 6 months of validity from your arrival date; must be in good condition (no tears, water damage, or missing pages).
- Return/onward ticket: Proof of departure from Malaysia (digital or printed). One-way ticket holders may be asked to explain travel plans and show proof of future travel.
- Visa (if required): MDAC is separate from a visa—ensure your visa is valid if your nationality is not visa-exempt.
- Cash proof (random check): Malaysian Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds: 10,000 MYR per person or 20,000 MYR per family (2+ people) in cash or equivalent foreign currency.
- MDAC confirmation: Digital or printed copy with QR code—this is non-negotiable for immigration clearance.
Fees for Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
There is no fee to submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) via the official portal. Any website or service charging for MDAC is unauthorized and fraudulent—they offer no additional benefits and cannot speed up the submission or clearance process.
Tips for Entering Malaysia When You Arrive
Follow these simple tips to ensure a smooth immigration clearance experience in Malaysia:
- Keep your MDAC QR code and passport handy: Have both ready for airline check-in (staff may verify) and immigration—store the QR code in your phone’s photo gallery (offline) and a printed copy in your passport holder.
- Organize all documents in one place: Keep your MDAC confirmation, passport, visa (if applicable), return ticket, and hotel booking in a single pouch to avoid delays at the immigration counter.
- Know the self-service auto gate rules: If you’re 16+ with an e-passport (chip-enabled) and have previously given biometrics to Malaysian Immigration (fingerprints/photo), you can use the auto gates for fast clearance. First-time visitors will need to use the manual immigration counters.
- Answer immigration officer questions clearly: Officers may ask simple questions (e.g., “Where are you staying?”, “How long will you be in Malaysia?”, “What is the purpose of your visit?”). Have a clear, concise answer ready (e.g., “I’m staying at a hotel in Penang for 5 days for tourism”).
- Prepare for random checks: Have your cash proof and hotel booking ready—checks are random, but being prepared avoids delays.
- Arrive early at the airport: For international flights to Malaysia, arrive 3 hours before departure—this gives you time to fix any last-minute MDAC issues (e.g., re-submitting if there’s a minor error) and complete check-in smoothly.

A historic gem in the heart of Bukit Bintang
I’ve always admired this stunning building whenever I passed through Bukit Bintang and finally had the chance to stay for a night.
Pros:
Location: Super convenient as it’s within walking distance to Pavilion Mall.
Parking: Guests can park for a reasonable flat rate of RM 5.
Atmosphere: The building architecture is beautiful, and the lobby is truly grand and impressive.
Pool: The swimming pool is large and was one of my favorite parts of the stay.
Cons/Points to Note:
Aging: As it’s an older hotel, you can definitely see some signs of age that are hard to hide.
Pool Hours: The pool is only open from 8 AM to 8 PM, which is a bit disappointing compared to other hotels that stay open until 10 or 11 PM.
Breakfast: The breakfast buffet didn't quite meet my expectations, though it wasn't bad.FromPLN 229

We truly enjoyed my stay at PARK ROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. The location is fantastic and made everything so convenient for us, whether it was shopping, exploring, or just getting around the city.
What really made the stay special was the wonderful service from the entire team. The door staff greeted us with warm smiles, the front desk handled our check-in smoothly and kindly, and the buffet staff were always friendly and attentive. Everyone we met made us feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout our stay.
Our room was spacious, spotless and very well maintained. Housekeeping did an amazing job everything was clean, neat, and thoughtfully prepared. It really made us feel relaxed and at home. The level of cleanliness was excellent and definitely stood out.
We also enjoyed the food, which had a nice variety and was very satisfying. Overall, the experience felt pleasant, comfortable, and welcoming in every way.
Thank you to the whole team for such a lovely stay. We left with great memories and would happily return again in the future.FromPLN 350

The room was big, spacious, clean & everything looks well-maintained. Unfortunately, all the service staff at the lobby that we encountered were lacking. There wasn’t any queue at check in when we arrived at around 1-2pm, we paid for room deposit, requested for our rooms to be on the same floor, but the staff did not respond to our request, merely just told us to come back to collect our room keys at 3pm. We deposited four bags at the lobby but found out that they only kept two of our bags, leaving the other two on the ground near the counter, without any tags or label. Until we have to remind the staff to bring in the bags & put them together with the other two bags. Even so, the staff came back to us & added two more bags to our collection slip, when in fact we only have total of four bags. At around 4pm, we went back to collect our room keys, thinking that the process would be quick & smooth, since earlier we’ve already checked in & paid deposit. But the staff took a long time to figure out that we have already checked in, despite us telling her that we came earlier on & paid the room deposit. After handing out the room cards, the staff did not bother to explain the facilities available, or inform us about the WIFI login, even though the counter wasn’t even busy. Also, we requested again if we could have our rooms on the same floor, but she just ignored the request & didn’t bother to inform us that it wasn’t possible. I’m not sure if all these issues are due to proficiency in English, but if the staff could at least listen & respond to guests’ situation & requests, that would make our experience much better, considering this is a 5-star international hotel.FromPLN 393

Located mainly in the Chinatown area, this hotel is mainly for indian and chinese guests. At my stay there were construction works around the building in two sides, so room was very noisy and had to ask for a room on a different side of the building. The second room was a bit better. Expect a lot of coming and going by chinese guests on the corridor and loud speaking during the night hours.

The room is clean & comfortable. The breakfast is amazing too. Love the stay. Would definitely come again for a short staycation. The only thing i did not like is they only provide valet parking, no normal hotel parking available. so they keep the key when we’re at the hotel which i particularly don’t like. I wish they provide normal hotel parking where i can park by myself & keep the car key. I don’t like others driving my car tho they’re good valet driver. But just for the info, the valet drivers are all very nice & it only costed rm17 for one night valet parking, it’s actually convenient. It’s cheap & easy for those who don’t mind others driving their car & keeping the car key. Overall hotel experience, 9/10. Minus 1 for the no normal hotel parking.FromPLN 112

Location: Excellent—just across the road from Kampung Baru food area, very convenient for foodies.
Check-in: Allowed early check-in at 1:30 PM despite 3 PM standard time due to room availability. Much appreciated.
Staff: Special mention to the staff member resembling celebrity singer Hafiz—excellent service, kept everything smooth and entertaining. Kudos.
Room (1619):
Connecting room arrangement was inconvenient; needed to prop the door open (1619,1620)
TV in father's room not functioning (1618)
Major issue: Strong sewage smell in bathroom—disturbing and needs immediate attention
Toiletries: Initially not refilled—no lotion, body wash in my room; no shower gel or conditioner in dad's room. Staff replaced with hand-packed amenities. Appreciated the gesture.
Food & Dining:
Breakfast buffet: RM37.10—excellent value; surprisingly good nasi goreng (first time I enjoyed it)
In-room dining: Nasi Goreng Tamu was good, but sambal prawn was too sweet
Hotel breakfast preferred over outside options—area dominated by nasi padang, which isn't to our taste
Overall: Okay stay. Responsive service on toiletries and excellent staff, but bathroom odor and room setup issues need fixing.FromPLN 198

I stayed at this hotel for three nights, and there were so many great restaurants nearby. Every day, I went to Baba Can Cook, a Michelin-starred restaurant.
The only real downside was how incredibly noisy it was at night. Even as a heavy sleeper, I found it hard to bear. From around 10 PM until 3 AM, the bars outside blasted music, and it was deafening. My travel companion couldn't even sleep with earplugs in. Be warned!
The breakfast was just so-so, not much variety. However, across the street at Gurney Plaza, they sold fresh durian every day, which was pretty good.
Also, the TV in my room mysteriously turned on by itself in the middle of the night for two consecutive nights. In between being woken up by the bar noise, I quietly turned it off. On the third night, I had to unplug the TV beforehand to avoid this strange occurrence. I was on the 13th floor in the innermost room, so I'm not sure if other rooms experience the same issues, but this is for your reference.FromPLN 258

Great stay overall with an amazing atmosphere and location. The hotel is just a few blocks from key attractions like Pavilion Mall, Jalan Alor for street food at night, and Suria KLCC by the Petronas Twin Towers, making it very convenient to get around.
The view from the room is a highlight, with a clear look at the Petronas Twin Towers, which light up beautifully at night. I was so pleased with the location of this hotel, it’s in the klcc park area and across from Patronas tower, if you’re trying to avoid the humid / a sudden downpour, you can use the convention center enclosed hallways and then go down an escalator to reach the Suria mall via an underpass, you can even walk all the way to Bukit bintang using this underpass, just make sure you go straight and don’t turn left for suria. If you don’t feel like walking a buggy awaits you to drop you off at klcc suria mall, which is really convenient. I had a very pleasant check in with Amandra who was informative and lovely. The room was spacious and clean, bed comfortable and pillows so soft, I loved sinking into them after a long day of touring ( getting lost mostly) The bathroom was clean but I think special attention should be paid to the shower area, that can be cleaned by soaking it in bleach or some detergent as there was moss on the floor and water stains on the door, above the shower door is a gap that tiny flies come through and dirt falls into the bathtub besides that the room smelled good and there was no sewer smells from the bathroom. I would definitely come back to this hotel when I visit again, perhaps a better room next time with a view and a hope that shower areas are better tended too, I’ve found it lacking in almost every hotel I went to in Kuala Lumpur now. FAQs about Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)
Do you still need MDAC to enter Malaysia?
Yes. The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) remains a mandatory requirement for all foreign nationals entering Malaysia in 2026. Implemented on December 1, 2023, it fully replaced the paper arrival card system and applies to all entry modes (air, land, sea). What is the MDAC official website?
The only official MDAC website is https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main, operated by Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia). All other platforms are unauthorized and may be scams. What does MDAC do?
MDAC is an electronic immigration form that records essential traveler information (personal details, travel itinerary, accommodation, health status) for Malaysian immigration authorities.
