Chimelong Safari Park Map & Route
Start early at the Safari Drive-Through (bottom yellow area) to catch the big cats and elephants at their most active. Then head to the panda zone in the central area before it gets crowded. By late morning, explore the Asian animal exhibits nearby.
After lunch, check out the lake area (blue section) for dolphin shows and water attractions when the sun's high. End your day with either a relaxing cable car ride across the park or hop on the mini train if you're tired – both give great views of the whole park.
The whole loop takes about 6-8 hours, so wear comfy shoes and bring water.
What to Do and See at Chimelong Safari Park
Safari Drive-Through
Hop on a bus for a 40-minute ride through different zones where animals roam freely, including African lions and Bengal tigers. For the best experience, take a morning tour when the big cats are most active or a late afternoon tour when elephants are cooling off in their pools. The drivers know the best spots for photos.
Cable Car Skyview
Soaring above the park, the cable car ride gives you a bird's-eye view of several habitats. It's especially beautiful during sunset when many animals are active. The 15-minute journey offers unique photo opportunities and a peaceful break from walking.
White Tiger Mountain
This stunning habitat is home to the park's famous white tigers. The viewing area is cleverly designed with glass panels that let you watch these magnificent cats up close as they play, swim, and interact. The morning feeding sessions are particularly spectacular, drawing crowds who want to see these powerful creatures in action.
Giant Panda House
In the climate-controlled Panda House, you can watch China's beloved giant pandas munching on bamboo and playing in their specially designed habitat. The best time to visit is during the morning feeding sessions when the pandas are most active. Don't miss the red pandas nearby – they're equally charming and often more playful than their larger cousins.
Koala Village
One of only a few places in China where you can see koalas, this Australian-themed area houses these adorable marsupials in a carefully maintained eucalyptus grove. The viewing times are limited to protect the koalas' well-being, so check the daily schedule when you arrive.
Little Safari Train
Perfect for families with young children or those who want a more relaxed tour, this narrated train ride circles through several themed areas. It's less bumpy than the safari buses and offers excellent views of hoofed animals like zebras and giraffes.
Where to Eat at Chimelong Safari Park
- Lake Restaurant: Located in the central area, this spot serves decent Chinese dishes and offers great views of the water.
- Food Court (near the panda zone): If you're in a hurry, grab a quick bite here – they offer surprisingly good noodles and dim sum.
- Snacks and Drinks: It's fine to bring your own snacks and water to save money. However, there are also plenty of small cafes and food carts scattered throughout the park for a quick energy boost.
Most meals cost around 40-80 RMB per person, and WeChat Pay and Alipay are accepted. Alipay is more convenient for overseas tourists.
Chimelong Safari Park Animals You Can't Miss
Big Cats & Predators
The park's star attractions are its white tigers - some of the rarest big cats in the world. You'll spot them swimming and playing in their custom-built habitat. The African lions are equally impressive, especially during morning feeds. There's also a healthy pride of Bengal tigers, leopards, and jaguars in naturalistic enclosures.

Giant Pandas & Herbivores
The park's vast grasslands are home to an impressive collection of deer and antelope. You'll spot elegant Sika deer moving in large herds, alongside the rare Père David's deer, which was once extinct in the wild.
In the African plains, zebras and giraffes graze together with various antelope species, creating a scene straight out of the Serengeti. The highland area houses some of Asia's most unique species, including Tibetan antelope and water buffalo.
African Plains Animals
The safari area hosts zebras, giraffes, and several species of antelope roaming together just like in Africa. The park's herd of African elephants is particularly active during afternoon bath time. You'll also see rhinos, hippos, and ostriches in their respective territories.
Australian Residents
One of the few places in China with a successful koala program. They also house kangaroos, wallabies, and various Australian birds in specially designed habitats that mimic their natural environment.
Marine Life
The park maintains several species of dolphins and penguins in modern aquatic facilities. You can watch training sessions and educational shows throughout the day.
Pro tip: Animals are most active during morning feeds (usually 9:30-11:00 AM) and late afternoon (3:30-5:00 PM). Check the daily schedule at the entrance for feeding times and shows.
