We stayed at this Marriott hotel during a spring family trip to Zurich. It was very reasonably priced for a family of four. The strengths of the hotel were its lounge, breakfast and service. The only downsides were a relatively small room, outdated fitness center and location outside the center. It appears to be in an emerging area and near a university and other offices. It is near a train station a few stops from Zurich Main and near a tram line that also runs to Zurich Main in about 15 minutes. It seems clear to me that the quality of customer service in travel has greatly deteriorated in the last three years. I understand that service providers have trouble finding and retaining people and the ones they have often don’t seem to take pride in their work. Sadly, I’ve come to accept this as the “new normal.” Which is why our recent three-night stay at the Park Hyatt in Zurich was such a welcome surprise. Not only was our room clean and comfortable but the service we received, from start to finish, was efficient and personal. Just a few examples: We had a flight delay and airport transfer difficulty arriving to Zurich and did not get to the hotel until after 1:00. The gentleman working the front desk who checked us in, got us waters, helped with our bags and personally escorted us to our rooms. He was also working the next night when we returned to the hotel after dinner. He spotted us coming through the lobby and literally ran over from the front desk, greeted us by name and asked if our room was acceptable and if there was anything he could do for us. The housekeeping staff are a bunch of ninjas. You never saw their carts in the hall but we’d leave in the morning and when we returned in the afternoon the room was made up. Perfectly. We’d leave for dinner and when we returned the room was turned down. Perfectly. We had drinks the first night at the Onyx Bar. When we returned the next night, the bartender remembered both our names and our drinks. We interacted on several occasions with the daytime concierge. I wish I remembered his name. It wasn’t just that he was knowledgeable about Zurich and responded immediately to our requests. He acted like speaking to us was the absolute highlight of his day. I know these are all little things but they added up to a wonderful stay. Plus, the hotel couldn’t be more conveniently located. Staying at the Park was a luxury item for us but, let’s face it, traveling anywhere in Switzerland is a luxury item. I would return to the Park for their level of personal service in a minute. Very close to Lake Zurich, 3 minutes walk to the lake. Toiletries are L’Occitane single, non-alcoholic beverages in the mini bar are free, and breakfast is the most abundant in the Swiss itinerary, but from a Chinese perspective, there are still very few varieties.

Location: Excellent. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Zurich Main Station by train from Zurich Airport. This hotel is just across the road from the main train station, one or two hundred meters away.
Room environment: Not very new, but completely acceptable. The decoration is relatively exquisite. The suite I booked has free minibar and snacks (except alcoholic beverages/wines)
Service: Contact the agent with Ctrip in advance to communicate about early check-in. The answer is that if there is a room available, you can check in in advance. We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 am and the room was ready for smooth check-in; both the front desk and the door bellman gave us a very friendly feeling. ;After checking out, two bottles of mineral water were given as a gift.
Room hygiene: There are two bathrooms in the suite. Toiletries such as toothpaste and toothbrush are provided. Samples of Swiss Dabao skin care products are also provided. There are welcome fruits and turndown service. Good night chocolates are also provided.

This is not a bad point unless you’re looking for mod comms. There is a power point where the tv is and one also under the bedside table. The rooms are very clean and there is maid service everyday. We arrived a day early for our tour and didn’t think our room would be available yet, but the front staff asked for 15 minutes to check with house keeping. We lucked out and our rooms were available early. 300ish room courtyard side which is only one floor up. Bit of noise from the other side of the hotel due to construction, but not noticeable in our room. Great air con or use the large windows. Shower very hot so you don’t need to set it too high. Bit more modern than my taste, but grows on you and not garish colours. Easy tram ride to the old town for site seeing or take a stroll along the river beside the part. Wonderful gardens. Breakfast is plentiful and can be chaos in the morning when there are three groups in the hotel. Suggestion: Move the centre aisle of tables half a foot to the left so the the aisle on the right when you face the food is a bit larger. Use the first table on the right for the bowls and plates. Helps out those that are shorter. The people flow is better when it is right to left since the coffee machines are on the left. Elegant, older, well maintained, albeit a bit dated, the hotel is located directly across the street from the Zurich main train station and trolleys. If, as we did, you want to be within easy walking distance of the train station this is a great location. If you want to be in a very quiet location on or close to the lake, this is not where you want to stay. There is a small grocery store in the underground passageway to the train station. The hotel common areas are well-maintained, and it has a small bakery and bar that serves a very good dinner. There is a separate restaurant space on the second floor that only serves breakfast, and the food and the staff are excellent and it’s fairly priced. However, the hotel does not have a conventional restaurant. The lobby and rooms are small by american standards, but very quiet and well-appointed, have a good bed and the bathroom has a bath/shower combo with very good water pressure (and air conditioning). The small electric refrigerator in the room was set up as a mini-bar, but it was ok to remove the bottles. It does not get very cold. We were upgraded to a small suite with a sitting room, so I don’t know what a standard room would be like. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. There did not appear to be a concierge. The hotel allowed us to check-out 2 hours later, which we appreciated. All in all, a very good hotel for the price. We stayed at this Novotel in Zurich, the Novotel in Munich and the Novotel in Geneva. This Novotel was definitely not as good as the others. The location is fine - it's well connected to public transport (it is located in the business technology park). We had booked nearly nine months in advance and asked for two rooms near each other (we were travelling as a family). We were given two rooms on separate floors at opposite ends of the hotel. It was literally the most far apart that the rooms could be. Reception on check in said that they would change it, then kept me waiting for 45 minutes while they tried to do so. I gave up at the 45 minute mark and just took the rooms that had been initially allocated. The initial person on check in did try and be helpful and gave a good restaurant recommendation. The other person on reception really was not helpful - in the end one of his colleagues stepped in to assist as I think she could see that he was being very unhelpful. Reception was often busy with queues (the reception area is not large enough for the size of the hotel). We were clearly tourist visitors to the city, and no-one in reception advised us on check-in that there was a huge festival in the city taking place (attracts 2 million visitors to Zurich) that was affecting all public transport plus restaurant availability etc. The rooms and the pool were fine. The breakfast at this hotel was very, very average, particularly the hot food items. The breakfast compared very unfavourably to those offered by the Novotel hotels in Geneva and Munich. Check out took a long time, and there did not seem to be a place to drop keys. The staff have very casual uniforms (pants and polo shirt) which also contributes to the whole feel of the hotel seeming like a lower standard. Hopefully Novotel can look at this hotel and try and improve the standard so it is of a similar standard to its other locations. (Novotel Munich in particular was so much better!)From$200

Great stay. Located in a quiet, safe residential area, with bus no. 8 (which takes you to a lot of the tourist attractions) stopping right in front of the hotel. Staff were helpful, responsive, friendly. They have snacks in the lobby which is helpful. Rooms are spacious but very basic in terms of decoration. I felt very, very safe here. Highly recommend. Improvements: Just remember to lock your door, as a solo traveler - I had the cleaners open the door a few times when they were ready to clean (they didn’t mean any harm, they thought the room was empty, but they should please knock! :) There are only two plugs in the room, far from the bed. You can’t charge your phone and lie in bed. A little more decor in the rooms couldn’t hurt as well. The rooms are plain. No mini fridges - keep that in mind. It's so easy to write a review when the issues identified in the review of a previous stay last year remain uniformly the same. And since the hotel at that time wrote, ”you can be assured that your remarks will be discussed with our team so that your next visit will give you complete satisfaction”, but obviously did nothing, it seems fair to deduct another star from the rating. It's a pity, but I don't see why the blatant lie should be overlooked. So, copying word-for-word from my last review, ”almost all [problems] concerned breakfast, where the potatoes were tough and dry, where the buffet included no fish products (no lox, no hering, no whitefish) and no mushrooms, where the selection of bread was like that of a two- or at most three-star hotel.” Yes, it's exactly the same now as it was then. There are no other significant deficiencies at this property, overlooking the fact that it is a bit dated overall (though in good shape as far as I could see). Stayed here six nights in june. Fresh room with operable windows and lots of natural light. Quiet, and the fan system is very good for drowning out any extra noises.Very comfortable new bed and bedding. Wonderful to have lovely espresso machine in room with plenty of capsules. Also refrigerator. They have some kitchenettes which include a microwave, again this is very rare in europe, although more common in the us. Staff is extremely responsive and professional and friendly, unlike many other hoteliers who are very stressed these days and often reflects in a strained attitude. I received almost immediate attention for all my needs. Very stylish public areas with lots of cool contemporary art and many colors and loads and loads of fantastic art science etc books all around the hotel. We were 2 adults and one child and this was mentioned very clearly at the time of booking. I was told in the reception that booking says 3 adults and they changed it to 2A & 1 C. Room given to us had 2 twin sharing beds, which left us with no space to even open the luggage’s and 2 adults were not able to share that bed. Staff attitudes were terrible 1. Room (307) was cold for us and asked for help to increase the temperature and the staff who came said, we can’t increase the temperature above 23 degrees. He said they can give heater, I said ok and asked if there is any additional cost. He asked if we’re from India and was laughing. He came back and left the heater outside the room and made a sarcastic statement “it’s free, use it” and was laughing saying Indians. When I tried to stop him, he didn’t even bother and walked away laughing. He just left the heater outside and went. 2. In the morning, I asked to pack 2 croissants as we didn’t have time to have breakfast and need to rush and I was told, we can’t do and you should eat here only. I had to tell them it’s weird and then they gave me a very small cover which could not even accommodate 2 small croissants. I have stayed in Novotel in other countries and never had such a worst experience. I would never stay in this property again during my next visit. I liked this hotel. Good location, 7 minutes or so from the central train station (which we walked to every day) and 2 blocks from Lake Geneva. It is is the ”new” part of town, not Old Town, but it was simple to get to the old part of town--we walked over there twice, including return in the evening after dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a very modern feel, and the room was a good sized compared to what we’ve seen in other European cities (but it was also a bit more expensive). Breakfast was good. Three choices: Continental, Buffet without eggs and hot food, and Full Buffet. Not cheap but consistent with the prices we’ve seen in other hotels. No U.S. plugs; didn’t expect them. We didn’t have an ironing board in our room, but upon request, one was quickly brought to us, and we kept it throughout our stay. The bed was comfortable, 4 pillows, but as in many northern European hotels, only a comforter, no top sheet. It's possible we could have gotten one upon request--I didn't try. Our room did have a table and two chairs, as well as a nice TV, which we didn’t use, so can’t really report on that. We were on the 5th floor, room 58. The only issue with this room is that it is in kind of a dormer, I think; on my (6’3”) husband’s side of the bed, the ceiling sloped down low so that if he wasn’t paying attention, he would hit his head when he stood up. Also, as a dormer, the window is small, but that really didn’t matter to us. The A/C worked. The room had an interesting design. The toilet was in a separate room with a sink. The closet was in the entry, across from the bar; it was not large but did have several open shelves you could use. There was coffee, tea and water and a small number of snacks available. The bathroom (other than toilet), including the large shower, was open to the bedroom; however, there were “partition” type door/walls you could use when you were talking a shower for privacy and warmth. I hadn't seen anything like it. It’s a little hard to explain, but it made the room feel a little bigger, while allowing plenty of privacy while showering. I would definitely stay here again. I stayed at Hotel Bernina for 5 days and enjoyed my stay there. It is very centrally located with the Cornavin station right in front of the hotel. It was just one stop away from the airport. Upon arrival, the front desk guy was constantly on the phone so we struggled to get the necessary details, but finally did and were able to store our bags, which appeared very secure. When we came back to check in, the front desk printed our room key for the wrong room. We literally walked in on an occupied room, which was uncomfortable. They blamed it on the keycard printer, which was also struggling with a few others checking in around the same time. They had to reprint pretty much everyone’s keys. Other reviews seem to indicate similar issues. Once we finally got our correct room, things were mostly okay. We couldn’t seem to find a way to keep the air conditioning running but turn off the lights. So the room got a bit warm overnight, especially with just a duvet cover. Couldn’t open the windows since there appears to be a club/bar immediately across the way that had loud music until past midnight which was already loud enough through the closed windows. We also visited the bar, and while looking at the menu at the corner of the bar, the bartender rather abruptly told us to sit at a table and someone would come by. So we did, but after awhile of waiting and no one coming, I ended up just going back to the bar and awkwardly ordering there. Never been to a bar where you couldn’t really sit at it or order there. As others recommend, definitely don’t show your free drink passes (from skipping room cleaning) until after you’ve ordered and leaving since they’ll not treat you as well. Room overall and hotel were fine, but could’ve certainly been better and expected a bit more. Location was great though! Felt like a reasonable walk whenever we wanted to go, many shops and restaurants around, and could easily reach a tram/bus stop to go further. From$129
