The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. What I appreciated most was the comprehensive range of power outlets; in addition to Swiss standard sockets, there were also European standard ones. Crucially, the Swiss outlets weren't the recessed type, which made it incredibly easy to use various plugs and adapters (as shown in image 9). An electric kettle was also provided in the room.
While the hotel's location is a bit further from the train station, Old Town, and lakeside attractions, public transport connections are extremely convenient. Tram line 3 provides direct access between the hotel and the train station (the tram stop is about a 7-8 minute walk to the left after exiting the hotel). Tram line 2 takes you to the Old Town, Bahnhofstrasse, Lake Zurich, and other sights (this tram stop is within a 3-4 minute walk to the right after exiting the hotel, see images 7 & 8).
The hotel breakfast was quite good, offering a rich and delicious selection.

It costs 7CHF to reach Hotel Krone Unterstrass from Zürich airport. Take the train from the airport to the Zürich Oerlikon station then switch to tram#11 and alight at ‘Kronenstrasse’ stop. Hotel is just next to the tram stop. The neighbourhood is very quiet once dusk falls. You’ll soon discover that 3 stops more of tram#11 and you’ll be at the Zürich main station (Zürich HB) which is the city centre. The room has manual-controlled ac compressor (thank god) even if it’s fairly cool without it (~14 deg C outside at end-Sep). There’s no mini bar fridge and they provide a petite metal kettle. The whole point of my review is to commend Laura Mannino (spelling), the first point of contact when you visit the daily breakfast buffet. With her ready smile & winning demeanour, she’s an asset to every hospitality business. My 5th floor room has a newish feel to it & I really have no complaints. We stayed at the Swiss Chocolate Hotel by Fassbind from 5/21/25 - 5/24/25 (3 nights). We are a family of 3 adults and booked 1 room that has (3) twin beds. Our room was on the 6th floor. It was clean and surprisingly roomy. The only problem, there's no AC (Europe hotels for most part don't have air-conditioning). We opened the window and let cooler air to come in. I am sure it's a lot less comfortable in the summer due to the heat.
The most enjoyable part were the staff at the front desk. Shout out to Yosie, Katia and Martina. These ladies were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The owner, Mr. Fassbind, should give these ladies a 8% raise.
The price for the room was also ”reasonable” for Zürich (~ $400/night). Being able to have 3 people in one room is a bonus. Most hotels will show ”sold out” when trying to book 1 room for 3 people.
I really had a very positive experience at the Swiss Chocolate Hotel in Zürich and can highly recommend it. I definitely would stay here again if the opportunity arises.From$134

The hotel is conveniently located near Zurich HB, which makes it great for travelers. There’s also a lift, which is helpful for carrying luggage.
Breakfast was decent. As someone with dietary restrictions (halal), the options were limited — mainly bread, eggs, and mushrooms. There were also apples and canned fruits available for yogurt, which was a nice touch.
The room itself was decent and comfortable. However, cleanliness in the bathroom could be improved — the movable mirror was rusty. That said, I had read some negative reviews beforehand, so I came prepared to expect the worst, and honestly, it turned out better than I expected.
The TV wasn’t a smart TV, even though the remote had a smart menu option, which was a bit odd. Zurich city area can be quite uneventful, so one or two nights here is enough.
The in-room coffee machine looked promising at first but turned out to be faulty. When I asked the front desk, they said it needed time to heat up — even after an hour, it didn’t work. Thankfully, there was a hot water dispenser near the café in the lobby.

The hotel boasts an excellent location. It's just a few minutes' flat walk from the train station, and the lake is also easily reachable within about 10 minutes on foot.
There are two 4-star Manotel hotels side-by-side. One appears more contemporary. I booked this one, expecting a more traditional or classic feel. To my surprise, only the lobby had a classic European style; the rooms were very modern, likely recently renovated.
Despite being a hotel, the kitchen facilities are surprisingly comprehensive and impeccably clean.
We booked a triple room, which was a good size, featuring a large bed and a sofa bed. The duvet provided for the sofa bed was rather thin, but the main bed was incredibly comfortable. The room came with a good selection of amenities, including slippers, shower caps, cotton swabs, toiletries, and coffee capsules.
The bathroom heating was on, but we couldn't manage to turn off the air conditioning in the room. As we arrived past 11 PM and had an early departure the next morning, we decided to just make do and get some sleep.
