How to Ride Wuxi Metro for Foreigners
Taking the subway in Wuxi is very simple- just follow the steps below and you will have a smooth journey:
- Purchase tickets or obtain QR codes: Use the vending machine (with an English option, so don't worry) to buy one-way tickets. Or, if you like, open Alipay or wechat, search for "Wuxi Metro", and generate a QR code.
- Pass through security: Pass your bag through the scanner at the security checkpoint. They may inspect liquids or sharp objects, so be prepared.
- Entry: Scan the QR code or swipe your card at the entrance. If you have a single travel token, hold it until you leave.
- Find your platform: Follow the signs to your platform and then check the electronic screen to see where the next train is headed.
- Transfer (if you need) : If you want to change routes, use the designated transfer route - you don't need to pay again. Just follow the signs.
- Exit the station: When you arrive at your station, scan your QR code, tap your card, or insert your token at the exit door.

How much does Wuxi Metro cost? (Calculated by distance)
Wuxi Metro fares are calculated by distance: within 5 kilometers, 2 yuan; 5 to 10 kilometers, 3 yuan; 10 to 15 kilometers, 4 yuan; 15 to 22 kilometers, 5 yuan; and 22 to 29 kilometers, 6 yuan. Beyond 29 kilometers, each additional 9 kilometers adds 1 yuan, and the maximum fare across the network is ¥10. (Please refer to the official website for the latest information.)
Wuxi Metro Ticket Types & How to Buy
- One-way tickets: You can buy them from any vending machine at any station. They accept cash, Alipay or wechat Pay. Just select your destination, make the payment, and then pick up the small token - you need to keep it until you leave.
- Smart card or mobile QR code: Locals usually use the Wuxi Citizen Card, but if you are a tourist, you just need to download the Wuxi Metro application (which is compatible with Alipay or wechat QR codes). If you don't want to download this app, you can look for the QR code poster of the subway at the subway station - you can also scan it directly with Alipay or wechat.
- National Transportation Card: If you have a transportation card with the "China Telecom Union" logo, just like the public transportation cards in Shanghai or Beijing, you can also use it here.
- Discount: 50% off for students, people over 65 years old and the disabled. Just make sure you have your ID card or relevant documents with you.

What is Wuxi Metro Expansion Plans?
As of 2025, Wuxi is actively expanding its metro network with 4 key projects underway, each set to enhance connectivity within the city and beyond:
- Line 4 Phase II: Extending from Expo Center to Xuelang Lake, this phase will add 6 stations and 8.5 km of track, expected to open in 2026.
- Line 5: Stretching from Tangcheng to Xinxiang Road, the 28.9 km line with 22 stations is slated for completion in 2027.
- Line 6: Running from Zigong Lake Wetland Park to Guangyuan Road, this 24.2 km route with 18 stations is projected to open in 2028.
- Line S2 (Xiyi Intercity Railway): Connecting Yixing to Wuxi’s Taihu New Town, the 30.4 km line with 9 stations will launch in 2029, linking Wuxi to Yixing for the first time via metro.

There are so many great hotels in Wuxi. Having visited with my kids many times and stayed at various five-star hotels, this time we came to tour Taihu Lake. We booked the hotel very late on the day of arrival, and after calling first to inquire about the evening buffet, we finally chose the JW. The room was thoroughly cleaned, and the service was excellent and very prompt (there was a minor issue with the TV, but someone was sent right away to fix it). The hotel is located in a bustling downtown area with a lively atmosphere. Right downstairs is a shopping mall with everything you could possibly need, making it very convenient when traveling with kids. Above all, the night view is unbeatable! Looking out from the 57th floor, the night view of Wuxi is stunning! The dining and other amenities are quite decent—nothing extraordinary, but everything you need is there. And that's more than enough 👍 Overall, it was a fantastic experience. This is my second time staying at the Lokas Hotel Wuxi. I first came when it just opened, and the room types are fantastic. The two-bedroom suite is spacious and comes with an induction hob, microwave, fridge, and a washing machine with a dryer, perfect for a longer stay. The location is great, not far from Nanchang Street and Nanchansi Temple. If it's too hot during the day, you can swim in the hotel's pool, which has good water quality and isn't crowded. Xiao Zhang (who seemed like a manager) handled my check-in with a great attitude. He also told me where breakfast was and the quicker way to get to the serviced apartments. When I checked out, he even gave me a lovely fridge magnet. Although the breakfast selection isn't huge, everything tastes delicious. I finally tried the famous fried fish noodles, and there's a small sesame ball that's also very tasty with lots of sesame filling. The juice isn't watered down either, and the waitstaff clear tables very efficiently. All the staff I encountered had excellent attitudes, and the cleaning ladies would greet you too. This is a very well-established resort hotel right on the edge of Taihu Lake. It has a massive number of rooms, but they are still in high demand during holidays, and prices shoot up accordingly—a garden view room cost over 1,400 RMB per night during the National Day holiday. All in all, though, it still justifies the price. Although the hotel has been open for quite a few years, they've installed smart toilets and replaced the hair dryers with new ones. The shower and other facilities are quite comfortable, though water tends to leak out onto the bathroom floor. A special shout-out goes to the breakfast, which is exceptionally lavish—better than many foreign-branded hotels. The fact that the signature Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) were constantly restocked and available all-you-can-eat shows real sincerity, and there were many small pastries you don't typically find at other hotels. On top of that, the garden views are lovely, there was even a fireworks show during the National Day holiday, and parking is convenient. However, for such a huge hotel, they only had three counters open during peak check-in time. After a great experience at the same brand in Yunnan during Chinese New Year, which my parents thoroughly enjoyed, I decided to try the Steigenberger in Wuxi during the three-day Qingming Festival holiday.
This year, the cherry blossoms bloomed late, and the Sunac resort happened to be not far from Yuantouzhu, so staying at the Steigenberger also fulfilled our wish to see the cherry blossoms. Our lake-facing room was very quiet and spacious enough, and the facilities were well-maintained. A special thank you to the front desk staff, who thoughtfully arranged connecting rooms for us after seeing we were traveling with elderly parents.

Coming home from school, due to the high cost of direct flights, I always look for a layover city in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area for my return journey, spending a day or half a day exploring. This time, Wuxi was my layover destination. Since I had very limited time and quite a bit of luggage, and wanted a comfortable stay, I carefully selected Holiday Inn Wuxi Central Station. It turned out to be a satisfactory accommodation experience.
**Location:** Absolutely unbeatable, right next to Wuxi Railway Station. You can directly access the station from the second floor, and the B1 level leads directly to the subway. This is incredibly convenient for travelers with luggage, as transportation is a breeze. Taxis are also readily available on the first floor.
**Facilities:** Overall, the facilities were satisfactory. The room was very large and spacious, and the bed was big and soft. All necessary amenities were available in the room. What's more, the floor-to-ceiling window offered a view of Wuxi station platforms and trains, fulfilling a childhood dream. Of course, there were a few minor issues. For instance, I specifically requested a non-smoking room when booking, and although it felt like it had been treated, unfortunately, the smoky smell was still quite noticeable. Also, when drying my hair after showering, the hairdryer stopped working less than half a minute after I turned it on. Fortunately, the prompt service in handling this issue compensated for the defect.
**Service:** I would say the service was exceptionally good. Having stayed at voco Myeongdong in Seoul previously, I had high expectations for IHG's service, and it certainly lived up to them. Ms. Chen at the front desk, Ms. Guo from housekeeping, and all the front desk, housekeeping, and breakfast restaurant staff were excellent. Unfortunately, I can't list all their names individually, but I extend my heartfelt thanks. Ms. Chen was very attentive during check-in, adding me on WeChat and responding instantly to all my questions. Because the first room had a smoky smell, unlike other brands that would have me drag my luggage down to the front desk to switch rooms and then back up, Ms. Chen immediately told me via WeChat to wait in the room. She then personally came up to pick me up, helped me with my luggage to the new room, which was really great, and also provided a lobby bar voucher. Bottled water was also generously supplied by the hotel, and every staff member who delivered items to the room was smiling and genuinely helpful. When my takeout arrived and I wasn't in, they would even keep it in the front desk refrigerator for me, which was wonderful.
**Dining:** The breakfast was also good, with a good variety and many Wuxi local specialties. The lobby bar also offered many drinks, but I would suggest adding freshly squeezed juices, as the taste might be better.
**Value for Money:** Also good. I had purchased vouchers in advance, so it offered good value for money.
Overall, I was very satisfied, especially for travelers with a lot of luggage who need to take a train from Wuxi Station. I will choose this hotel again if I have a layover in Wuxi in the future. May the hotel continue to improve!FromTRY 2,924

The hotel staff were quite good, and the scenic area staff were also very responsible.
We had all three meals a day at the hotel. Overall, it was decent and convenient.
However, what was truly frustrating was that Building 1 and Building 2 are not connected on the second floor. The first time, I went the wrong way and walked a very, very long distance to get to our hotel room, which was at the very, very end. Is this how family rooms are positioned? After eating on the third floor, we couldn't just take the closest elevator back to our room. We had to go all the way back, or go down to the first floor. The butler suggested an upgraded room next time, but honestly, we wouldn't go back a second time. It was genuinely exhausting because of the lack of connection, leading to a lot of unnecessary walking. There was no warning before check-in that Building 1 and Building 2 weren't connected. And because the room was at the very end, the walking was incredibly tiring.
We came to have fun, but staying at this hotel was just too tiring.

Taking advantage of the year-end holiday, we brought our parents and children for a vacation. With a significant temperature drop across the country in mid-December, we wanted a hotel with hot springs. After comparing many hotels in the area, we finally chose Futao Hot Spring Hotel.
Location: Besides its excellent value for money, the key advantage is its superb location. It's within a 20-minute drive of attractions like Nanshan Bamboo Sea, Shanjuan Cave, Yaohu Town, and Tao Erchang in Liyang.
Environment: The surrounding environment is beautiful, built against the mountains, with the main entrance facing the lake. The scenery is pleasant and the air is fresh.

The breakfast selection was rich every morning, and we enjoyed the hot springs in the afternoon. After soaking in various pools, a session in the steam room was incredibly relaxing. We came specifically for the amazing fireworks at Yuantouzhu, and they truly were spectacular and stunning. The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, less than 3 kilometers from Yuantouzhu. We heard there's a traffic restriction, so cars can't get all the way there, but there were plenty of motorbikes on the road, offering rides directly to the entrance for 30 per person. The hotel's environment is also beautiful; it would be even better if they planted more flowers. Finally, about the service: Duty Manager Chen Xianzong from the lobby contacted us in advance. When he learned we were arriving early, he arranged for our room to be ready ahead of time, so we could check in immediately upon arrival. I stayed in a family room with my parents, thinking that a 'Golden Diamond' hotel (presumably a premium, high-tier hotel) would offer a better experience. However, it was just on par with a regular 5-star hotel, and in some aspects, even fell short of 5-star hotels with better service.
First, the pros: The hotel environment is quite good, the rooms are spacious, and the entire property covers a large area. It's currently lotus season, so it's very beautiful. For a 'Golden Diamond' hotel, the price offers decent value for money.
Now, for areas that could be improved: There were some blind spots in terms of cleanliness. For instance, there was dust accumulated on the curtains, the corners of the TV cabinet, and the first-floor balcony could have been cleaner. I understand that some outdoor areas naturally accumulate dust, but I'm mentioning it because the dust was quite noticeable, making it seem like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. After all, we're not staying in a 'camping style' place; this is a 'Golden Diamond' hotel. Also, the hotel might be a bit old, as some facilities show signs of aging.
Regarding service: When I proactively asked about a room upgrade or a welcome amenity, the answer was 'none.' It's not that I'm trying to get a small perk, but my colleague stayed the previous Saturday and received a room upgrade, which raised my expectations. Despite booking a more expensive room than him, I didn't get any special treatment. Additionally, the electric buggy needs to be called at least 10 minutes in advance. We called only when we were fully ready, which led to a long wait.
There were also some small details: There was no doorman when we arrived, though I saw one when we left. I originally wanted to experience the check-in by boat, but the butler said it was fully booked and offered to arrange a boat ride for breakfast the next day, which I thought was acceptable. However, during my check-in, the front desk agent next to me proactively offered a boat check-in to a guest who hadn't even booked it, and then escorted them away. I immediately questioned my own front desk agent about this.
Although the overall service was okay afterward, the initial impression upon arrival is very important, as was the communication with the butler before check-in, which left my expectations a bit unmet, making the service feel very average.
During my stay, the hotel pool was under maintenance, requiring a trip to the Crowne Plaza hotel, which was a bit inconvenient. Also, the package included tickets to Sunac Land, but the park is currently undergoing maintenance, and many attractions are closed. Just a heads-up for others.FromTRY 7,288

I chose this hotel after reading many positive reviews on Ctrip, particularly highlighting Manager Xu Yuan's excellent service. I was fortunate enough to have Xu Yuan assist me with my check-in that evening, and indeed, his service was exceptional. From check-in to guest communication, everything was seamless. He thoroughly explained the member benefits, breakfast times, and what facilities were on each floor. I had booked two rooms, and since I was arriving late, I was concerned they might not be on the same floor. However, Xu Yuan mentioned that as soon as he saw my booking, he immediately reserved two rooms on the same floor for me – truly thoughtful service! His attentive service began even before I arrived at the hotel. The rooms were spotless, and the soundproofing was good. The high-definition TV allowed for screen casting, the shower pressure was strong, the bathroom had a wet/dry separation, and the hairdryer was powerful. The 1.35m single bed was not only generously sized but also incredibly comfortable – for the first time ever, I didn't wake up with a sore back after staying in a hotel. Right in front of the hotel is a large lawn, and the surrounding area is a wetland park, offering an excellent ecological environment. At night, it was simply 'quiet.' The hotel hallways were also very wide, and the staff were all incredibly enthusiastic and helpful, always ready to answer any questions. The subway station is conveniently located near the hotel, making getting around super easy.
