This is a beatiful and luxurious resort, situated near Perugia in Umbria, central Italy, surrounded by amazing views of the green hills and valleys that this area is famous for. The resort itself is amazing, really stunning, interesting, historic, spacious, a pleasure to stay at. Staff at front desk and pool were super, really helpful, also housekeeping. The big issue was the main restaurant, Rura, the food was very nice overall, but the service was practically useless, both at breakfast and dinner, and one of the reasons to book a Relais & Chateau is for the food experience - It wasn't so here. There was endless confusion over our half board status and what that meant we could or could not order without charge, they would take 30 minutes sometimes to even take our order, then bring us completely different things than ordered (which they did to many guests), often by the time we got food (or hot drinks) it was cold, courses would come out at different times so I would finish eating the first course before my wife even received it, breakfasts were appalling badly served, totally confusing, we would wait 30 minutes to get a pot of coffee, then two would arrive. It's all a great shame, as this is what R&C is supposed to be famous for, but the dining experience was completely ruined for us by the poor service and they need to address it, as we saw most guests faced with the same issues. I cannot actually recommend the resort right now, due to this issue, but if they can fix the restaurant service, then it would be an amazing overall place to stay.

This review is actually difficult to write. The property itself is located at a beautiful location. With that being said, the staff are not genuine and do not enforce ”rules” consistently nor with any rhyme or reason. For instance we went down to the spa area to get a tour of what we could experience. We were not wearing the issued spa shoes, so we were not given a tour. Not even offered to use some spa shoes due to ours being in our room. Yet when we were in the spa for a pool visit, we saw no less than 3 couples being shown around wearing regular street shoes. Also people are not supposed to be talking on their phones or listening to audible music. At least two guests were when we were at the pool. Overall the spa is severely overpriced and overly hyped. Quite frankly it's not impressive. Along the lines of rules, men are are supposed to wear pants in the restaurant at dinner, yet I saw men wearing shorts. Also once again people were chatting on their phones. The breakfast was good, but dinner was a huge disappointment. We ate dinner twice. The food was indeed presented well. But the taste was lacking. During a four course dinner, my appetizer of fried cod was essentially room temperature as if it was cooked 10-15 min earlier. It was not of good quality taste either. The rest of my ”hot” food for the 1st and 2nd courses were also NOT hot. My ravioli were warm at best. For my 2nd course only part of my pork dish was actually hot. And staff NEVER checked to see if the food was prepared properly or to your liking. My wife's one course was barely touched, not a single question was asked. Also we weren't even offered a wine list! we were shocked!!!!!!!!! The portion sizes are extremely small and over priced. One morning there was NO hot water. Called the front desk, they had someone to find what the problem was. Once it was fixed about 90 minutes later, they never called us to let us know. For the price we paid for the room ,they could've at least called us to let us know we had hot water again. They charge a flat fee of 30 Euros to charge an electric car each time. Our rental car was a plug in hybrid that had a small battery which could charge rather quickly. There was a language barrier. I was under the impression the fee to use the charger would be only 30 euros for our entire stay due to the battery not being for a fully electric car. That is not the case. Even for a fully electric vehicle, paying 30 euros is way too pricey. Depending where your room is located you have a long walk up or down ad very long walkway that is NOT level. IT's actually on a fairly steep incline/decline. Upon checkout they sent the person to help load bags to the wrong part of the hotel two times. I will discuss the staff last. The staff here pretends to act friendly. They seem very uptight and not at all genuine. Our entire stay here we did not feel like we could relax. It seriously had a cult like creepy feeling with people walking around in white robes and fl

Abbiamo trascorso un weekend lungo in famiglia. La struttura è bellissima e immersa nel verde. Il personale gentile e accogliente. La nostra stanza purtoppo ci ha deluso: era al 2o piano ed era poco illuminata (una lampada a parete in più non guasterebbe). L'aria condizionata purtoppo è centralizzata e si può modificare poco in stanza ( avrei preferito qualche grado in più rispetto al valore max impostabile). Non abbiamo potuto aprire la finestra perché la zanzariera era tutta rotta (aprendo la finestra si rischiava di far entrare insetti indesiderati). Ma il problema principale è il bagno che sembra un po' datato e soprattutto la vasca che, se pur ”romantica”, è troppo alta e risulta scomodissimo entrare ( una persona anziana o con qualche difficoltà motoria non riuscirebbe ad usufruirne con facilità)....sarebbe meglio una bella e grande doccia! Per quanto riguarda la colazione, abbastanza varia con ottime crostate e torte. Purtoppo la frutta (poca) una volta terminata non veniva 'rifornita' . In un albergo a 4 stelle mi aspetterei delle attenzioni in più. La piscina seppur non grandissima è un piacevole angolo in cui rilassarsi. Il ristorante molto buono.

110% - above and beyond/cannot recommend highly enough. Stefano speaks first class English and the team went out of the way and succeeded in ensuring I enjoyed my stay here. It has a wonderful clean good sized swimming pool. It was also wonderful to have a large ground floor room with outside seated area. The location is wonderful being between station and main town. There is also good parking right outside the property. Taxis available from train station before 6pm or alternatively easy 20 minute walk. I left on a Sunday so Stefano kindly ran me to the station complimentary as no taxis were available. Castiglione del Lago itself is a small but beautiful town with lakeside areas and you can even rent a boat. There are ferries to the nearby island Isola Maggiore which is wonderful with it's church, history and tourist shops. Great location also for quick and cheap train rides into the nearby town of Cortona and good location for trains to other hill-towns e.g. Orvieto. Breakfast was wonderful- cold meats and cheeses, yoghurts, pastries accompanied by coffee- I enjoyed their cappuccinos and you could even receive a top up for free. I hope that I will be fortunate enough to return one day. Stefano was extremely helpful from the beginning of the booking process to departure at the train station. Grazie mille Stefano and team. The location of the hotel is very good, take a bus from the gate of the train station to St Get off at Francesco Church Station. The hotel is 200 meters opposite. The first photo is after the bus gets off and the hotel is taken. The big house in the middle of the front is the hotel. In the first photo, the tall tower on the left is St. Francis Church (it takes less than 10 minutes to walk), and the second photo was taken on the hotel terrace, just walking to the center of the old city.

Hotel located two steps from the door of Santa Chiara, you can walk and visit the beautiful Assisi. It has a comfortable parking (price not included) . At the upper floor there is a terrace and a living room available for everyone. The room was very nice and noisy, but if the windows were closed, the room was very noisy, and the shower was very spacious and clean enough. Breakfast: there is a little of everything, it's a pity that all drinks (including various types of coffee) are provided by the machines thousand “smack”. Good cakes made at home. nice staff and available. Recommended!

Loved this hotel for the view and cleanliness. Our room had a balcony with a view of the amazing mountains which makes waking up with sun an amazing experience even from your bed. No AC but staff is very understanding and they offer a fan that you won’t need after sunset because the temperature goes down and you won’t need it. Few meters from the cathedral and very close to other stores we just walked to most restaurants. Breakfast was a buffet like most Italian restaurants. They have a great shuttle service.

First the positives......location. Now the negatives... Avoid Room 50 llike the plague. We had booked a superior double room and were pleasantly surprised to be allocated Room 50 with all it's grandeur, until that is one of us went to the shower. Only to find that the bathroom flooded to almost Biblical proportions !!! No amount of trying to mop up the water with spare towels worked. Response from the Front of House member of staff was to provide more towels, and an explanation of how a previous guest had accidentally broken one of the glass panes in the shower screen (which given it's appearance and condition had clearly been there for a good twenty years or more) which he claimed had been repaired,but that the problem persisted and that staff were aware of this.!!! His solution to the issue was to say ”I can't do anything now,we'll deal with it tomorrow” Our reply was that this situation was unacceptable and could we please be moved to another room. Reluctantly he agreed to our request and allocated us Room122. We had booked for three nights, for the remainder of our stay we had quite a frosty reception every time we encountered the said member of staff. On checking out and paying the bill with a credit card a most unusual thing happened. The Front of House staff member on duty that morning asked for payment of the City Tourist Tax in cash. In all our years of travelling in Europe and paying various city taxes we have never been asked for cash payment when using cards.Hmmm? La Rosetta did not live up to expectations, breakfast was average and the coffee from the machine was dreadful. Italian guests must be appalled with it. We wished we had stuck with our first initial choice and gone with La Fortuna around the corner.

La serveuse sert seule et fait la réception , les plats n’arrivent pas ensemble mais la pauvre ne peut pas faire autrement . Le personnel est gentil mais dépassé . Femme de ménage odieuse . Petit déjeuner sans intérêt . RESTAURANT 1 hôtel 4 Nous avons laissé 4/5 pour l’hôtel , sa situation et la qualité des chambres . Mais éviter absolument le restaurant
