Singapore has over 200 km of coastline, and coming here to taste its variety of seafood is an essential part of any visit. Apart from its internationally renowned chili crab, delicacies such as pepper crab, barbecue squid, and cereal prawns are all firm favorites with foodies. These 8 seafood restaurants each have a style of their own--come try them out!

Jumbo Seafood Gallery was established in 1987. Its signature dishes, chili crab and black pepper crab, reflect quintessential local Singapore flavors--and if it's chili crab you want, here you get the best bang for your buck. It is also one of only 49 Singaporean brands to have won the Singapore Prestige Brand Award. Top food, great value.

Singapore has 7 JUMBO Seafood Galleries in total. The best scenery is to be found at the Riverside Point outlet on Clarke Quay, where visitors can enjoy their food in the restaurant while admiring beautiful views of the Singapore River.

No Signboard Seafood, established in 1981, is renowned throughout the island for its original menu creations. The stir-fried crab is a must-eat delicacy; and in addition to the chili crab, the crispy cereal crayfish is an undoubted favorite.

Recommended signature dishes: White pepper crab, chili crab, butter crab, and crispy cereal crayfish. Also recommended is the Fujian-style steamed fish with rice—the fish goes beautifully with the rice, and the tender bean curd in the dish has a touch of natural sweetness.

This is a barbecue joint run by a husband-and-wife team for over 20 years, specializing in grilled seafood, but also offering up other fish and shellfish dishes. Admittedly, the dishes don't look like anything special on the plate, but one bite tells you all you need to know. The seafood is as fresh as it gets, grilled to perfection, and with a dash of the special house sauce it tastes beautiful. The chili crab is top-notch too!

Frequented by a number of Chinese movie stars, this place serves a pretty good chili crab and black pepper crab—but you can only choose one flavor each time you go, so steer clear if you're one of those who can never quite decide what to go for! The crab meat is beautiful: full, tender, and sweet. There is a lot of crab mustard, and getting to work on the shell is super-satisfying. The prices are a real bargain too, considerably lower than other popular restaurants.

Mellben Seafood was a late starter but has grown into one of Singapore's top seafood restaurants. Its zi char, or buffet stall menu, is also a household name among locals. In addition to pepper crab, it also serves a creation of its own, claypot crab bee hoon soup (claypot crab vermicelli soup).

This restaurant may be some way out of downtown Singapore, but it is a firm favorite with various Hong Kong and Taiwanese television stars. It offers extremely good value for your money, and is an excellent choice for those who aren't dying for chili crab. Prices work out around S$30-50 per person (US$22-36). The more people you're with, the better value it is.

Singapore Seafood Republic, located on Sentosa, specializes in crab and is known as the mecca of seafood, bringing together four of Singapore's top seafood restaurants for something of a unique shellfish heaven.

Seafood Republic combines four of Singapore's leading seafood joints--Palm Beach Seafood, Seafood International, Tung Lok, and Jumbo Seafood—so diners can sample four sets of signature dishes in one sitting.

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant was the first in Singapore to specialize in black pepper crab—the founding father, so to speak. It is also the only crab restaurant in Singapore to have been recommended by New York Times. In operation for over 60 years, its best-known dish is black pepper crab.

Long Beach Seafood is in the East Coast area. Prices are very reasonable, you can enjoy the sea views as you eat, and they serve the real deal in big portions, so it's a prime choice if you want seafood. There are fewer tourists in this area—most of the customers are locals—and the prices are about 30% lower than JUMBO. Visitors can dine al fresco against the backdrop of the ocean for an unforgettable experience.
