Le Meridien Shanghai Sheshan
"This family-friendly hotel offers a fantastic experience with its beach, pool, animal feeding, zipline, and rock climbing. The Squirrel Kingdom Kids' Club is absolutely amazing, featuring a huge 700㎡ space with ball pits, slides, and climbing structures. They regularly clean and disinfect, so it feels safe and secure. My child didn't want to leave – it's the ultimate spot for kids! Our butler, Jerry, provided timely and attentive service, making for a truly satisfying stay."
Shanghai Yunzhi Homestay
"If you’re looking for a tranquil weekend away from the bustling of the city, then I would highly recommend this place. Surrounded by nature, rice farms and vegetable gardens, you can take a deep breath of fresh air and feel like you are truly in nature, without being too far from everything and without breaking the bank. This hotel is 15 min from Disney or the International Resort maglev stop by Didi, and it’s not so far out that you can’t order delicious food from Weimai. They offer a delicious Chinese breakfast but if you don’t like Chinese breakfast, you can easily order delivery. The hotel and room itself is incredibly clean and I love the clean, minimalistic and bohemian style decorations. The owners are so friendly and helpful even though they can’t speak English. Communication wasn’t an obstacle though because you can communicate with him through WeChat or a translator app."
Atour X Hotel, City Beach, Jinshan Wanda Plaza, Shanghai
"The staff at the front desk were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I came to Jinshan to celebrate my birthday with friends. When it rained as we went out in the evening, the front desk even had umbrellas available for guests to borrow. Upon checkout, they surprised us with neck pillows as a gift, which was a truly thoughtful gesture. Highly recommend!"
Fengjing Hotel (Shanghai Jinshan City Beach Branch)
"The room is clean and tidy, the service is good, the surrounding environment is nice and quiet."
SAVHE Hotel North Bund Shanghai
"The service was excellent, and the staff were very polite and helpful. Is located at north bund and requires crossing a bridge to The bund, but overall the stay was comfortable and pleasant."
MaxX By Steigenberger on the Bund Shanghai
"First, the positives: the view was excellent, the bedding comfortable, and it offered good value for money. The service was also prompt in responding to issues. Now for the negatives: the hygiene was really poor. There was a visible, thick layer of dust on the floor, next to the bathtub, and on the cabinets. It felt like the room hadn't been cleaned in two weeks. Luckily, after I reported it, they immediately moved me to a new room, which was much cleaner. Secondly, the wallpaper on the TV wall had a long, unsightly wrinkle, which made it look a bit cheap. Also, the showerhead in the bathroom was fixed and couldn't be adjusted, making showering very uncomfortable. There's a clear difference compared to a Waldorf Astoria, but then again, the price reflects that. Overall, it was an average stay, neither outstanding nor terrible."
Holiday Inn Shanghai International Resort by IHG
"Extremely satisfied with our stay! First off, the hotel's location is perfectly situated between Disney and the Safari Park, making it super convenient and close for taxis. This was a huge plus for our family who often decides where to go on a whim! Of course, the hotel also offers shuttle bus services, and we saw many guests using them. Service: Our butler was Richard, and he kept in touch from our check-in day right through to our departure. His service was attentive, patient, and very enthusiastic – he definitely deserves a huge shout-out! Cleanliness: Spotless! Families with kids can rest assured. Features: The kids' activity center was also very clean. For dinner, they have a beef hotpot buffet, so if you don't feel like going out, you can definitely fill up right at the hotel."
JOYA Hotel Shanghai Lujiazui
"They upgraded us to a family room. The window-side table was just moved to where the TV is, and some chairs were removed. So, the space hasn't actually changed at all. Also, I have to say, that recliner must have saved the owner's life, considering its condition, and they still haven't thought about replacing it."
Ocean Hotel Shanghai
"The location is very close to Raffles city and few walking to the north bund river view. It’s beautiful and more quiet. Room is big enough for the 3 of us, it is clean and the hotel has good varieties of food every morning. Staff are friendly."
Shanghai Garden Rezen Hotel
"Fantastic, family-friendly hotel with exceptional amenities and service! We had a highly pleasant and happy stay at the Shanghai Rezen Garden Hotel from May 31st to June 3rd. It is an incredibly convenient and family-friendly place to stay, especially for foreign travelers. The Room: Our room was very large, spotlessly clean, and featured convenient automatic curtains and toilets. It also included a comfortable sofa bed, which easily accommodated our family. The hotel thoughtfully provided kid-sized slippers and toothbrushes, which was a lovely touch. The main bed was quite spacious, though the mattress comfort level could be slightly improved. Additionally, the shower head spray was a bit too strong for young children, so a softer pressure option would be a great upgrade. The Food: The breakfast buffet offers a wonderful spread of both traditional Chinese and international options. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the menu, and a huge plus for families is that breakfast is free for children under 1.3 meters! I personally highly recommend the cream puffs and fresh soy milk—they were absolutely delicious. The Amenities (A Huge Plus!): The amenities here are superb! Having a supermarket right inside the hotel was a major highlight for us as foreigners; it quickly became our go-to spot for daily breads, drinks, and snacks. On top of that, there is a great souvenir shop on Level 1 that sells Disney merchandise (perfect if you want to grab a Disney hat or last-minute gifts) and they even provide stroller rentals, which is incredibly convenient. The hotel also features an indoor playground with unlimited access for the kids. This gave us a much-needed breather to relax in the lobby and organize our daily itinerary while the children were happily entertained. Furthermore, the lobby hosts a helpful tour agent and coordinates multi-destination shuttles that make us want to return on our next trip to Shanghai. To top it off, the 24-hour Chinese restaurant serves delicious food delivered right to your room by a robot, which the kids absolutely loved. The Service: Truly awesome. The coordination for the airport, Disney, and zoo shuttles was seamless. The cleaning auntie was incredibly kind and proactively provided extra bottled water for our family. A special shout-out to the front desk team: I forgot my vitamins, and they went above and beyond by helping me purchase them via ******* and delivering them to my room-door in less than 45mins. I appreciated this so much! Overall, we had a fantastic experience and highly recommend this hotel to families visiting Shanghai!"
Chuxin Moshe Hotel (Shanghai International Tourism Resort)
"A very good hotel, service was excellent, efficient and attentive. Staff is helpful in determining some local specific related questions. They are also very flexible & understanding when I need to modify booking due to some last minute weather related itinerary change. Hotel also provides shuttle to the disneyland and pudong airport. There are also a snack shop, a supermarket and many restaurants around. Will definitely come back, thank you!"
Radisson Collection Hotel,Xing Guo Shanghai
"Hidden gem in the bustling heart of Shanghai, Xinguo Hotel is a discreet yet luxurious garden oasis. Its historic villas and lush courtyards make every moment feel like a scene from a classic film. The service is meticulous, breakfast offers a rich variety, and the Western kitchen's à la carte options are absolutely delicious. My stay was an experience beyond expectations! The travel photography here is exceptional, with stunning results. We captured timeless moments amidst the century-old architecture and verdant greenery. The photographer skillfully captured the ambiance, resulting in every shot being gentle and sophisticated. It’s truly the best choice for travel photography in Shanghai!"
Shanghai Lujiazui Riverside Center IntercityHotel
Discover a modern hotel in Shanghai’s Lujiazui Riverside area, offering comfortable, well-designed rooms with city and river views, practical amenities, and convenient access to the financial district, The Bund, and nearby shopping and business hubs.
Wassim R Hotel
"The hotel has a great atmosphere and the facilities are excellent. It's very quiet, and the front desk staff, especially one lady, was incredibly welcoming. She even helped us get an upgraded room! The surrounding area is very convenient for dining and shopping, and transportation is easily accessible."
New Century Grand Hotel Shanghai Songjiang
"Although it's an older hotel, you can still see its five-star pedigree. Considering the room size, facilities, and location, it offers excellent value for money. If you're looking for something brand new, spacious, and in a prime location, you'd likely be paying a much higher price. The staff are all very warm, friendly, and thoughtful, which is a definite bonus. A special mention goes to the breakfast buffet's coffee – they offer Illy (the 'little red hat' brand), and you can get an espresso shot to make your own latte or Americano, which I really loved ❤️"
Baiwanshi Onsen Hotel | Private Hot Spring Tatami Resort Near Shanghai Disneyland
"The experience was great! The staff were very welcoming and the hotel is super close to Disneyland, with a shuttle bus service available. After a long day, it was so relaxing to come back and enjoy the hot spring, then grab a meal at Bicester. Absolutely fantastic!"

Shanghai Hotels: Where to Stay from People's Square to Lujiazui & Pudong Airport
About Shanghai
Shanghai is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities, a global financial centre with among the most high-rises of any city in the world. The Huangpu River cuts through the middle, splitting the city into Puxi (the historic west side) and Pudong (the futuristic east). The Bund promenade runs along the Puxi waterfront, pairing colonial-era architecture with views across to Pudong's towers; inland, Yu Garden preserves a Ming Dynasty retreat of pavilions and rockeries, and Shanghai Disney Resort anchors the eastern edge of the city as mainland China's first Disney resort.

When to Book Shanghai Hotels
- Book Shanghai hotels well ahead during peak seasons (national holidays, spring, and autumn), especially near The Bund, where rooms fill up fast and rates climb.
- During China's Golden Week (October 1-7), book Shanghai accommodation as early as possible; last-minute planning yields poor rates and limited availability citywide.
- For Shanghai hotel deals on Trip.com, the best off-season windows are mid-January to February (20-35% off), mid-April and June (15-30% off), and October to November (20-40% off).
- On Trip.com, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays tend to have lower pricing for Shanghai hotels; avoid Friday evenings, Sunday nights, and Monday mornings when booking surges push rates higher.
- Use Trip.com's filters to narrow Shanghai hotel searches by price range, star rating, amenities (pool, gym, free Wi-Fi, breakfast included), and guest review scores.
- Check recent guest reviews and photos on Trip.com before booking to gauge real service quality, cleanliness, and the overall experience at specific Shanghai hotels.
- Pick Shanghai hotels near Metro stations or major attractions for convenience during peak periods, and always check cancellation policies; flexibility matters most during high-demand travel windows.
- Trip.com offers up to 8% hotel coupon for new users applicable to all Shanghai hotels; bundling flights and hotels together yields additional savings, and the loyalty program earns Trip Coins redeemable for future booking discounts.
Shanghai Travel Essentials
Getting Around
- Shanghai Metro spans over 800 km of track across 19 lines and 396 stations. Stations run roughly 5:30am to midnight, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday in the city centre.
- From Pudong Airport (PVG): the Maglev train reaches Longyang Road in under 10 minutes (¥40-50, ~$5.90-$7.38); a taxi to the city centre takes 1-1.5 hours (¥170-210, ~$25.08-$30.99); the Metro costs ¥4 (~$0.59) but takes about 1.5 hours.
- Metro Line 2 connects both Pudong and Hongqiao airports as the key east-west artery; Line 10 serves old Shanghai neighborhoods including Yu Garden.
Food & Dining
- Shanghai's local cuisine is benbang cai (本帮菜), a branch of Huaiyang cooking that favours sugar, soy sauce, and oil, with seafood featured prominently.
- Xiao long bao (小笼包) are steamed pork soup dumplings served with vinegar and ginger: bite a hole, drink the soup, then eat. Shengjian bao (生煎), the pan-fried version with crispy bottoms, are a local Shanghai specialty.
- Mealtimes run early: lunch around 11:30am-noon, dinner around 5:30-6pm. Tipping is not customary.
Entry Requirements
- 50 eligible countries enjoy 30-day visa-free entry to China for tourism and business (valid until December 31, 2026); a 240-hour transit visa-on-arrival is also available. US citizens are not covered by the visa waiver and must apply for a tourist visa before traveling.
- No routine vaccinations are required for entry into China. A passport valid for the duration of your intended stay is needed; temporary or emergency travel documents may not be accepted.
- The official currency is CNY (¥). Credit cards are widely accepted at Shanghai hotels and restaurants, but carry small cash for street vendors and local stalls.
Weather & Best Time to Visit
- Shanghai has a humid subtropical climate. Spring (March-May, 12-22°C) and autumn (September-November, 18-25°C) are the best seasons to visit; autumn, with its dry air and golden foliage, is widely considered the single best season for sightseeing.
- Summer (June-August, 25-35°C) is hot and humid; June brings Plum Rain with daily showers lasting weeks, and typhoons are possible in July-August. Humidity often exceeds 80%, so carry a light rain jacket.
- Winter (December-February, 0-10°C) rarely drops below 1°C, with snow uncommon but chilly winds frequent. Hotel prices are lowest in winter and highest during spring/autumn peak seasons and Golden Week (October 1-7), when domestic travel surges across China.
※ Prices and policies vary by season and are subject to change. Confirm with official sources before booking.
