The old site of the New Fourth Army Military Headquarters, located in Jingxian County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province, was built in 1915. It was originally the residence of Zhang Xun, a warlord of the North Ocean. It consists of two brick and wood buildings and one bungalow. It is an ancient building of Chinese and Western style. In January 1938, the New Fourth Army stationed here and accomplished the arduous task of forming the New Fourth Army. The New Fourth Army, composed of eight provincial Red Armies and guerrillas, went out of the deep mountains and embarked on the journey of resistance to Japan northward. It became the mainstay of resistance to Japan in central China and established an immortal meritorious service for the cause of liberation of the Chinese nation. The old site of the New Fourth Army Military Headquarters, including the headquarters of the Army, the General Hall of the Army, the Ordnance Institute, the Political Department, the Team, the Field Service Corps, the Southeast Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Tomb of Martyrs, Ye Tingqiao and other memorial sites, is one of the key cultural relics protection units in China and one of the eight important historical sites in modern and contemporary China.
