Joy Luck House Review

We hit this place late lunch /early dinner time and we had an interesting crowd. Service was a bit lacking as I had to ask for the rest of our food some time after most of it had shown up. Shrimp wonton noodle soup was a great choice. Prices are very reasonable. I had a crysanthemum tea drink and it was a very light tea with sugar cane sweetening, which tasted really good with the soup. The owners were friends although they had to handle a difficult customer in front of us. We were told places like this are dying off in the area due to the rent going up for the success of the Verizon Center nearby. It would be a shame to lose a good hole in the wall like this just to put in something slick and fancy.

After having brunch next door, I grabbed sesame puff balls as a take-out snack - tasty and delicious.

I ordered a General Tso's chicken with white rice. The only reason that this restaurant is receiving two stars as opposed to one is that the chicken itself was not overly breaded. The meat however was very poor in that it lacked flavor or substance. It was like eating soft flavorless mush. The rice tasted as if it were prepared from a minute rice package. Overall it tasted terrible, and to top it off, the staff is rude. It was $9 wasted.
