Trip.com Price Guarantee: What It Covers, and Where It Applies

Author's Profile Picture
Trip.com Price Guarantee

Fare changes between the search results and the payment page are one of the oldest frustrations in online travel. Trip.com's answer sits at the payment step rather than at the price comparison: once your payment is confirmed, the price of that booking does not move. This guide sets out exactly what the Flight Price Guarantee says, which situations fall outside it, and how the hotel promise that travellers often confuse it with actually works.

What Is the Trip.com Price Guarantee for Flights?

Four guarantees attach to flights. Only the first is about the price you pay. Always refer to the official doc for Trip.com flight for the latest info, the article is ONLY for reference (subject to change, so do not hold liable)

Guarantee

What it promises

Applies to

Main limits

Flight Price Guarantee

The price of your booking will not change after payment is confirmed. If your ticket is not issued after successful payment due to Trip.com's fault and the ticket price rises, Trip.com covers the difference

All Trip.com sites, with a few airline and last-minute exceptions

Not a price match, and not a refund if fares later fall

Booking Guarantee

Once tickets are issued, if you cannot board because of Trip.com's fault, Trip.com compensates

Ticketed bookings

You must contact Trip.com immediately; the maximum is a refund of the original ticket plus a replacement flight designated by Trip.com

Flight + Hotel Guarantee

Free cancellation of the hotel booking if a flight change means you cannot arrive on your check-in date

Flight + hotel packages booked through the flights channel

Only packages booked on the flights channel qualify

Flight + Lounge Guarantee

Free cancellation of the lounge booking if a flight change means you cannot use it

Flight + lounge packages booked through the flights channel

Must be within the validity period of the lounge

The Price Guarantee is offered on all Trip.com sites. The exceptions sit at airline and booking level rather than by country: certain airlines are excluded, and so are bookings made within two hours of departure. The terms name one airline explicitly, and it is worth committing to memory. Bookings with Ryanair do not qualify for any Trip.com service guarantee, including the Price Guarantee, the Booking Guarantee and advance compensation.

What the Flight Price Guarantee Really Says

What Is the Trip.com Price Guarantee for Flights?
What the Flight Price Guarantee Really Says

Always refer to the official doc for Trip.com flight, this article info maybe outdated overtime

The official wording is two sentences long, and they do different jobs.

  • The first is the promise most travellers are looking for: "Trip.com guarantees that the price of your booking will not change after payment has been confirmed." In practice, the number on your confirmation is the number you pay. The fare you saw at checkout is not replaced with a higher one while the ticket is being issued.
  • The second is narrower, and it is a compensation clause rather than a price promise: "If your ticket is not issued after successful payment due to the fault of Trip.com and the ticket price increases, Trip.com will cover the difference." Three conditions sit inside that sentence. Payment must have succeeded. The ticket must have failed to issue because of Trip.com, not because of the airline or the payment method. And the fare must have risen in the meantime. When all three are true, Trip.com absorbs the increase, so you are not asked to pay a higher price for the ticket you already bought.

It Is Not a Price-Drop Refund

The guarantee covers one direction only. It protects against the fare rising between payment and ticket issuance, and it does not apply if fares fall afterwards. If you book and the price drops a week later, that is your booking at the price you agreed, and there is nothing to claim.

Does Trip.com Price Match Flights?

No. Flight price match is not a Trip.com product, and it is the single most common misunderstanding about this guarantee. Trip.com's Flight Price Guarantee does not promise to match a lower fare you find elsewhere for the same flight. What it locks is the price of the booking you have already paid for, which protects you from the fare moving during the booking process itself rather than asking you to go hunting for a cheaper listing afterwards.

Price matching exists, but it belongs to hotels, and it works in the opposite direction: you book first, find a lower price afterwards, and claim the difference. The comparison table further down sets out how the two differ.

When the Trip.com Flight Price Guarantee Does Not Apply

This is the part that decides whether you actually have protection. The official terms set out seven exclusions, listed as clauses 2(a) to 2(g). Grouped by cause, they fall into four buckets.

Why the guarantee does not apply

The situations covered

Problems with the payment or the booking itself

The payment did not go through, so no ticket was issued; the ticket was not issued because of an airline schedule change; the problem did not change your original flight schedule

Reasons on your side

You missed the flight because of your own timing or documents; you booked within two hours of departure

Reasons outside Trip.com's control

Airline delays or cancellations, airport problems, force majeure, and any other cause not attributable to Trip.com

Ryanair

Bookings with Ryanair qualify for none of Trip.com's service guarantees, including advance compensation

The Rule That Voids Everything Else

Clause 1 of the terms is the one most travellers never read, and it is the one that cancels their claim: "Please contact Trip.com immediately if you run into any problems while booking flight tickets. If you make your own arrangements without contacting Trip.com, or choose not to take a solution provided by Trip.com, you forfeit your rights under Trip.com's Flight Price Guarantee and Booking Guarantee."

Read that practically. If something goes wrong and you buy a new ticket yourself, arrange a hotel yourself, or turn down the solution Trip.com offers and do something else instead, you have given up the guarantee. The first move is always to open the app or call support, and to do it before you spend money on a workaround rather than after.

Booking Guarantee: If You Cannot Board

The Booking Guarantee starts once your tickets have been issued. If you are unable to board because of Trip.com's fault, the terms ask you to contact Trip.com immediately, and compensation is assessed according to the circumstances. The stated maximum is a refund of the cost of your original flight ticket plus a free ticket for a replacement flight designated by Trip.com.

Two details matter here. It is a maximum rather than a flat entitlement, so the outcome depends on the circumstances of the case. And the replacement flight is one designated by Trip.com, not a flight of your choosing at a fare of your choosing.

Flight + Hotel and Flight + Lounge Guarantees

If you book a flight and hotel together through the flights channel, the Flight + Hotel Guarantee lets you cancel the hotel booking free of charge when a flight change means you cannot arrive at the hotel on your check-in date. The Flight + Lounge Guarantee does the same for lounge access: if a flight change means you cannot use the lounge, you can cancel it free of charge within the lounge's validity period. Both apply to packages booked through the flights channel, so a hotel or lounge booked separately does not qualify.

How to Keep Your Flight Price Guarantee Valid

  • Pay in one go and make sure the payment succeeded before you close the app. Unsuccessful payment is the first exclusion on the list, and the guarantee never starts.
  • Do not leave booking to the last two hours before departure. Flights departing within two hours of booking fall outside the guarantee.
  • Save your booking reference and the confirmation showing the price you paid. That is the baseline if the fare moves.
  • Check the amount charged when the ticket is issued. If a higher fare is requested, contact support rather than paying it.
  • If anything goes wrong, contact Trip.com first, and do not buy a replacement ticket yourself before you do. Your right to compensation depends on it.
  • For the Flight + Hotel Guarantee, book the flight and hotel together on the flights channel. A hotel booked on its own is a separate booking with separate terms.
  • If your booking is with Ryanair, plan on dealing with the airline directly, because none of Trip.com's flight guarantees apply.

Flights vs Hotels: What Each Guarantee Covers

The word "guarantee" means different things depending on which part of Trip.com you are booking. Flights and hotels run two separate programmes, and knowing which one you are under prevents most misunderstandings.

Flights

Hotels

Price product

Flight Price Guarantee: the price is locked once payment is confirmed

Hotel Price Match: if you find a lower public price for the same room and dates, you can claim the difference

Direction

Protects against the price rising during booking

Rewards you for finding a lower price after booking

How it pays

The fare difference is covered when Trip.com's own fault prevents ticket issuance and the fare rises

The difference is refunded in Trip Coins, within 1 working day after you complete your stay

Extra protection

Booking Guarantee: compensation if you cannot board through Trip.com's fault

Room Guarantee: same-standard rebooking and price difference cover if there is no room when you arrive

Claim window

Contact Trip.com immediately when a problem occurs

Price match claims must be submitted by midnight, 11:59 pm property local time, the day before check-in

Hotel Price Match: Buy Now, Claim Later

On eligible hotel orders, if you find a lower price for the same room type on the same dates on the property's official website or an eligible booking platform, you can submit a price match request, and Trip.com will tell you within 24 hours of submission whether it is approved. The comparison is strict: the room type must match on facilities, room size, breakfast policy, cancellation policy, number of guests and payment method, your stay dates and booking language must be identical, and the lower price must be publicly available to everyone. Voucher, promo code, loyalty point and credit card promotional rates do not count, and neither do prices that only come as part of a package. Cancelled or unconfirmed bookings do not qualify. Requests need to go in by midnight, 11:59 pm property local time, on the day before check-in, and modifying the booking after you submit, including the hotel name, room type, dates or number of guests, makes the request invalid. Approved refunds are capped at USD 1,500 per booking and paid in Trip Coins. Price match is currently in a trial phase and available only in certain languages and regions.

The Room Guarantee and Other Hotel Protections

The Room Guarantee covers the worst-case arrival. If your booking is confirmed but there is no room when you reach the property, contact Trip.com immediately. Trip.com will negotiate a room of the same standard or above and cover any price difference up to the first night's room rate of your original booking, or arrange a nearby property of the same standard on the same terms if nothing is available at yours. It applies where a confirmed booking has no room on arrival, and not where you arrived outside the arranged time, changed the booking without confirmation, or were already upgraded free of charge. Claims are verified and Trip.com contacts you within one working day after you check out, so keep your invoice and payment receipts. If you cannot reach Trip.com and simply stay somewhere else, that is treated as forfeiting the Room Guarantee.

There is also a Change and Cancellation Guarantee, under which Trip.com states that it does not earn profits from or add additional charges to change and cancellation fees, and will work with the hotel to reduce your cancellation charges where it can. And for flight and hotel packages booked together, an involuntary flight change that stops you arriving on your check-in date lets you cancel the hotel free of charge, provided you submit the request before or on the check-in date.
