Kunming Metro Operational Lines & Scenic Stops
The Kunming Metro currently operates 6 major lines connecting transport hubs, universities, and beautiful floral or lakeside attractions:
- Line 1 & 2 (Red/Blue): Currently operates as a connected north-south line. Essential for travelers, it connects Kunming Railway Station, the massive Dounan Flower Market (Asia's largest flower market), and the Kunming South Railway Station (the high-speed bullet train hub).
- Line 3 (Purple): Cuts west-to-east straight through the city. Use this line to reach the scenic Western Hills (Xishan) and Dianchi Lake, or transfer at Dongfeng Square in the city center.
- Line 4 (Green): Connects the northwest to the southeast, linking the historic Kunming North Station and Chenggong District.
- Line 5 (Orange): The ultimate sightseeing route. It stops at Expo Park, Cuihu Lake (Green Lake Park), and Haigeng Dam (famous for thousands of wintering Siberian black-headed gulls).
- Line 6 (Teal - Airport Express): Runs from Tangzixiang in the city center directly to Airport Center Station (located at Kunming Changshui International Airport - KMG).
Kunming Metro Operating Hours & Train Frequency
- General Hours: Trains run daily from 6:20 AM to 11:00 PM (varies slightly by line, with some services concluding at 11:30 PM).
- Line 6 (Airport Express) Hours: Runs daily from 6:20 AM to 10:55 PM.
- Frequency: During rush hours (7:30 AM – 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM), trains arrive every 3 to 5 minutes. Off-peak intervals are around 7 to 10 minutes (Line 6 runs every 10 to 15 minutes).
Kunming Metro Fares, Tickets & How to Pay and Ride
Fares are distance-based, starting at CNY 2 (approx. $0.28 USD) for the first 4 km, up to around CNY 7 for long distances. Line 6 from the city center to the airport is flat-rated at CNY 5.

1.Select your payment method:

Cuihu District Kunming|1.57km from city center
This is an established hotel by Cuihu Lake, and its location is truly unbeatable! It's just a few minutes' walk to Cuihu Park, and the Military Academy, Yunnan University, and Wenlin Street are all nearby. It's incredibly convenient for exploring the old city and trying local snacks, saving a lot of commute time during your trip.
The hotel has a mature and elegant style, is well-maintained, and the rooms are clean and dry with comfortable bedding. The lake view rooms offer expansive views of Cuihu Lake, and the floor-to-ceiling windows provide excellent natural light. With full amenities, it's suitable for both family travel and business stays. However, the children's play area is incredibly tiny. I saw light tubes there and asked a staff member how to turn them on, and they said, ”I don't know 🤷♀️.” That's a bit absurd.
The breakfast buffet is commendable, but the space is small, so you often have to queue in the morning! The variety is rich, offering both Western dishes and many local Yunnan specialties.
The staff provides proper and thoughtful service. Check-in is efficient, and requests are responded to promptly. They also offer useful tips for local sightseeing, which is very considerate. For those driving, there's free parking, making travel convenient.
❗Small tip: The hotel has been open for a number of years, so the decor is more classic and dignified rather than trendy and minimalist. If you're visiting Kunming and want to stay in the city center near Cuihu Lake, this is a very good choice.FromINR 5,386

The entire room definitely shows its age. For my 9-night, 10-day trip to Kunming, I chose this as my first stop. Let me start with the positives: The location is excellent, and the service is incredibly attentive. The front desk even proactively upgraded my room, which was a huge plus. The room itself was also clean and tidy. However, the one major drawback is the hotel's infrastructure, particularly the bed. It was really uncomfortable to sleep on; I couldn't get used to it even after two nights. Stepping out of the room onto the 6th floor, the air quality felt much better than inside the room.FromINR 4,543

This is a fantastic hotel, a seasoned five-star establishment that offers excellent value for money and exceeded my expectations! The day before check-in, the butler called to inquire about our needs. Upon arrival, a bellhop immediately helped us with our luggage and assisted with the check-in process.
The room was spacious with a small balcony. Although the hotel is older, all facilities are well-equipped, and the attention to detail really shines through! During our stay, when we encountered an issue and contacted the butler, they were incredibly proactive in resolving it. The service attitude was truly beyond five stars!
On the 4th floor, the executive lounge offers afternoon tea, and the pastries are even better than those found in many patisseries. There's also a light dinner available during the evening.
Breakfast is served on the 2nd floor, with a wide variety of dishes, including many local specialties. The service staff are all very attentive and friendly; they even help pack food for guests who need it.
The hotel's location is also excellent. The nearby Dongfeng Square is beautifully decorated, and the surrounding area has a vibrant local atmosphere. It's only about 300 meters on foot to Nanqiang Pedestrian Street, which leads directly to Nanping Pedestrian Street and Jinma Biji Archway. It's also very close to two subway stations (Dongfeng Square and Tangzixiang), and there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel.FromINR 6,737

While the hotel room facilities are a bit dated, with old carpets and a slightly cramped bathroom with only one sink, the strong water pressure made for a comfortable shower. The air conditioning was just okay, and the soundproofing was decent. As an older five-star hotel, Wanda Vista truly shines in its service. Front desk manager Mr./Ms. Yang was kind and friendly, helping us arrange an extended stay and providing excellent advice and assistance with our Yunnan travel plans. The front desk is often a guest's first impression, and we're very grateful to Mr./Ms. Yang for starting our stay off so well. The restaurant's breakfast offered a good variety, and the taste was acceptable. The breakfast staff were incredibly sincere and service-oriented in their greetings and assistance. I even noticed one or two pregnant staff members in the breakfast area who were still meticulously and efficiently going about their work. The executive lounge didn't have a huge selection of dishes, but everything was fresh and replenished promptly. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly, and the room was kept clean. On our graduation trip to Yunnan with the kids, Kunming was our first stop, and we were so glad we chose the Green Lake Hotel. The doormen and room service staff were all incredibly helpful, promptly addressing any issues we had. The bedding was also very clean. This established star-rated hotel really lived up to its reputation. The location is also excellent, right by Green Lake, with many restaurants nearby. We tried three, and all were delicious. After dinner, a stroll around Green Lake to digest was truly pleasant. The Military Academy, Yunnan University, and Zhibu Shudian Bookstore are all nearby. Facilities: While not as brand new as some newly opened hotels, it boasts a large area and beautiful scenery. Additionally, the hotel's Chinese restaurant offers incredibly good value for a five-star establishment, with several dishes definitely worth trying.

This is an international youth hostel, and there are indeed many foreigners here. The common areas have a great vibe, and the food and drinks are very affordable. It's super convenient, just a 2-minute walk to the East Gate of Cuihu Lake. If I could, I'd love to book it for two months next summer! Oh, a friendly heads-up: the room type I booked doesn't have air conditioning, only a fan. But it was quite cool, so the fan was perfectly fine. I stayed in room 506; the bed was very soft, the shower had good pressure and heated up quickly. The toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, and shower gel were all good, and the toilet paper was quite thick. The only minor drawback was that the electric fan was a bit noisy. My friend stayed in 606; their water pressure was slightly lower, but the fan was silent, though the bed was a little firmer. Overall, I'm very satisfied! The washing machine and dryer are also a nice touch. All the staff speak English. While it's called a youth hostel, there are actually people of all age groups staying here.FromINR 731

This garden hotel is absolutely stunning!
The garden is like a huge energy field; a walk through it every evening recharges you. A big thank you to the lovely front desk lady who arranged a beautiful room with a direct view of the garden – it was so refreshing to open the window each day.
The swimming pool is also fantastic! It's deep and spacious, with excellent water quality, making for a truly enjoyable swim.
The room was cleaned promptly, and the housekeepers thoughtfully left four bottles of water, all neatly arranged!
I was able to add the butler on WeChat, and during my five-night stay, I received fruit for three days, and two cans of coffee as a farewell gift!
Our room rate included breakfast and dinner, and for all five nights, the food at the restaurant was consistently excellent! The Yunnan local dishes, in particular, were so delicious they almost brought tears to my eyes! The rice noodles were incredible, with four different types of toppings! I had rice noodles for both breakfast and dinner! The fruit selection was also abundant, with seven or eight varieties. I especially loved their freshly squeezed juices, particularly the cucumber juice. And they have an Indian chef whose flying bread and curry are simply divine!
The location is superb! A short walk through Haigeng Hall leads you directly to Haigeng Dam, making it incredibly convenient to see the seagulls! Xishan and Haihong Wetland are also not far, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

The hotel is located right by Dianchi Lake, with separate lanes for vehicles and pedestrians. There's an observation deck not far from the hotel, and it's about 800-900 meters to Haigeng Park and Haihong Wetland. However, you still have to walk further to get to the cable car station, and I estimate the dam is even further – I didn't go there. The hotel is 2.3 kilometers from Xingti Road Station on Metro Line 5. Our package included one complimentary drop-off service to the metro station, which was really good. It would be even better if they offered round-trip shuttle service to the metro for backpackers.
However, there aren't many shops around the hotel. For dining, it's either the hotel restaurant or ordering takeout. Park 1903 Commercial Street is about 3 kilometers away, so it's more suitable if you have a car.

There is a small food court on the ground floor of the same building. The 1st store after the stair case once you enter the building sells pretty good noodles.
3. The balcony: my room is 201, with a balcony overlooking the garden on the ground and an open space to the big building in front, which gave us a peaceful corner to sit and talk and enjoy the nice spring weather.
4. The costume: the hotel offers free Miao costume to wear and take photo inside the hotel. Xiao Wan, the receptionist also help to take soem nice photos for us.
What should be improved:
1. The cleanliness: the room facilities were a bit old but the cleanliness is definitely something can be changed and improved: like the table in the balcony, which should have been clean the surface.
2. The amenities: the big bath towels are torn out at the 2 edges. They can be reused as footmat or rag to recycle. New bath towel should be seriously considered.

The sound of boiling water in the next room was very clear, the sound of opening the cabinet door in the next room was also very clear, and the sound of talking in the next room was also very clear. The sound of bathing upstairs and next door was also very clear, the sound of rushing water. The voice in the corridor was also heard very clearly, the sound of walking in the corridor, the sound of pulling the suitcase, and it was also heard very clearly. On the evening of the New Year's Eve, I called the front desk several times and no one answered. On the second day, I asked the front desk person, and the front desk person said that it was a holiday. No one cleaned on the first day of the New Year, the front desk had to change my room, and I didn't change it. I have stayed in so many hotels. The first time I encountered such a situation, there was no one at the front desk on the 30th night of the New Year. There was no staff in the hotel and no security. There was no cleaning staff on the first day of the New Year. This is not a small hotel, it is also a relatively large hotel, how can this situation occur? I stayed at this hotel for more than ten days and didn't see who the manager of the hotel was from the beginning to the end. In addition to a staff member at the front desk, it was the cleaning person.Disclaimer: This article has been provided by an individual contributor or third party platform.
