Physical bilingual maps are available at service desks in major stations. For digital navigation, do not rely on Google Maps (as it is outdated for China's rapid transit expansions). Kunming Metro Operational Lines & Scenic Stops
The Kunming Metro currently operates 6 major lines connecting transport hubs, universities, and beautiful floral or lakeside attractions:
- Line 1 & 2 (Red/Blue): Currently operates as a connected north-south line. Essential for travelers, it connects Kunming Railway Station, the massive Dounan Flower Market (Asia's largest flower market), and the Kunming South Railway Station (the high-speed bullet train hub).
- Line 3 (Purple): Cuts west-to-east straight through the city. Use this line to reach the scenic Western Hills (Xishan) and Dianchi Lake, or transfer at Dongfeng Square in the city center.
- Line 4 (Green): Connects the northwest to the southeast, linking the historic Kunming North Station and Chenggong District.
- Line 5 (Orange): The ultimate sightseeing route. It stops at Expo Park, Cuihu Lake (Green Lake Park), and Haigeng Dam (famous for thousands of wintering Siberian black-headed gulls).
- Line 6 (Teal - Airport Express): Runs from Tangzixiang in the city center directly to Airport Center Station (located at Kunming Changshui International Airport - KMG).
Kunming Metro Operating Hours & Train Frequency
- General Hours: Trains run daily from 6:20 AM to 11:00 PM (varies slightly by line, with some services concluding at 11:30 PM).
- Line 6 (Airport Express) Hours: Runs daily from 6:20 AM to 10:55 PM.
- Frequency: During rush hours (7:30 AM – 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM), trains arrive every 3 to 5 minutes. Off-peak intervals are around 7 to 10 minutes (Line 6 runs every 10 to 15 minutes).
Kunming Metro Fares, Tickets & How to Pay and Ride
Fares are distance-based, starting at CNY 2 (approx. $0.28 USD) for the first 4 km, up to around CNY 7 for long distances. Line 6 from the city center to the airport is flat-rated at CNY 5.

1.Select your payment method:
There are three main ways to pay:
- Mobile Transit QR Code (Highly Recommended): Open Alipay or WeChat, set your city location to "Kunming," go to the "Transport" section, and activate the Kunming Metro QR Code. You can link your international Visa/Mastercard directly to pay at the gate.
- Single-Trip Token: Touchscreen vending machines at every station accept cash, WeChat, and Alipay. These dispense a green round token.
- 1-Day Pass: You can purchase a 24-hour unlimited pass for CNY 20 at station customer service counters.
2.Pass security screening:
Place all purses, luggage, and backpacks onto the conveyor belt at the security checkpoints located before you reach the turnstiles.

This is my second time choosing the Grand Park Hotel by Cuihu Lake, having stayed in Kunming a few times. The location is truly a 'hidden gem' – No. 20 Honghua Bridge, within a ten-minute walk to the Yunnan Military Academy, Yunnan University, and Wenlin Street. You can even see the shimmering waters of Cuihu Lake from your window.
It's a well-established five-star hotel; while it's older, it's well-maintained. The solid wood furniture and ethnic patterned carpets give it a distinct Yunnanese vibe, rather than a trendy, 'influencer-style' aesthetic. The extra-long windows in the room are a highlight. This hotel is perfect for city walks around the Cuihu Lake area, for those traveling with seniors, or guests who prefer not to change locations frequently. However, if you're looking for brand-new facilities or an 'Instagrammable' pool, you might want to consider other options.From£47

This was my second stay at the Holiday Inn Kunming City Centre during this Yunnan trip. My first experience was quite good overall, and the hotel maintained the consistent service standards that Holiday Inn is known for, which is why I chose to stay here again. However, my second stay was a bit disappointing.
Two specific details significantly impacted my experience: Firstly, breakfast. I ordered a fried egg, and it never arrived, even by the time breakfast was almost over. I reminded the staff several times, but it still didn't come, yet I saw some guests who arrived later than me receive theirs. This was a poor experience. Secondly, the parking issue. I arrived quite late the previous day and registered my license plate during check-in, thinking I could leave smoothly the next morning to catch my flight. However, when checking out in the morning, I found that my license plate hadn't been entered into the system, which caused some delays.
Aside from these issues, the hotel's location, room cleanliness, overall environment, and facilities were all good, and the area is quite convenient. I hope they can optimize the details like breakfast service management and parking system entry in the future; it would make for a much more consistent overall experience.From£39

This was my first time staying at this hotel, and my experience was absolutely fantastic. The location is great, near Kunming Station, and very close to MixC and Spring City 66, so the surrounding amenities are super convenient. The service was top-notch, and staying on a high floor allowed for amazing night views. The best part, though, was the incredibly comfortable swimming pool. I highly recommend it to everyone!

I chose Crowne Plaza for my last day in Yunnan. It's a standard IHG room layout, a bit dated, but the hotel's location is excellent, very close to Nanping Street, making it super convenient to visit Kunming Old Street and the famous 'paper-thin building'. I stayed at three InterContinental Hotels Group properties this trip, and the service at this Kunming one was truly the best. The restaurant staff were calm yet incredibly organized, and everyone genuinely paid attention to guests' needs, proactively helping with things and offering soft greetings when passing by, which made me feel very comfortable. Five out of five stars, highly recommended! I stayed at this upscale city hotel in Kunming and was impressed by the attentive service from the front desk staff throughout my stay – it truly exceeded my expectations.
The hotel boasts an excellent location, right next to a bustling commercial area, making it very convenient for getting around. The lobby design is grand and impressive. On the day we checked in, the lobby was quite busy. While the bellhops were occupied assisting other guests and handling luggage, the front office manager immediately stepped in, enthusiastically took our bags, and personally escorted us to our room. Along the way, he patiently introduced the hotel's amenities, breakfast times, and local attractions. I later learned he had only recently joined the hotel, but his professionalism was evident, and his explanations were perfectly tailored and insightful.
Traveling with a child can be challenging. After my child's bath in the evening, it was inconvenient to go downstairs to send a package. After contacting the front desk, they arranged for someone to pick up our takeout. We didn't have to go back and forth at all, which genuinely solved a common hassle when traveling with kids. These small details really show their thoughtfulness.From£75

My stay here far exceeded my expectations. The room was spotlessly clean, with meticulous attention to detail everywhere. Check-in at the front desk was quick and smooth, and the staff were polite and responsive to all requests. The location is superb, making dining and getting around very convenient. The best thing about Cachet is the location, right in the middle of a very lively area with upscale bars and restaurants and cafes, quiet neighborhood of tree-lined streets with old school walk-up apartments. The hotel rooms and facilities aren't the newest and while the design isn't exactly up to date it's quite unique. Cool artwork in the lobby. Rooms are huge. I had a 4th floor room with great views. Started my day with the tea set; there's also a pod-type coffee machine. On the top floor there's a laundry room gym and billiards. A bit old though so that area could use a refresh. The restaurant operates as a German-style brewpub open to the public except during breakfast. So they have German sausage which was very good. (We had to ask for yellow mustard, which they should have out instead of ketchup!) The breads weren't fresh though. Was really impressed with the quality of the broth in the noodle bar. Front desk service was really nice & helpful. They did a good job keeping our Taobao packages for us so they were ready when we arrived.From£67

Five stars, highly recommended! This is an old, established state guesthouse in Kunming that you absolutely must stay at. Its heritage, views, and service are all top-notch.
The location is unbeatable, directly facing Cuihu Park. Open the French windows and you're greeted with lake views and weeping willows. In autumn and winter, you can even spot red-billed gulls. Yunnan University and the Yunnan Military Academy are within walking distance, making it convenient for exploring the old city without much travel.
The hotel's design was partly conceived by I.M. Pei, blending new Chinese style with retro Art Deco. The lobby's gilded lotus sculpture, rosewood carvings, and vintage staircase create an incredible ambiance. The gardens are tranquil and elegant, and every photo you take captures the unique, understated elegance of a historic five-star hotel.
Service is gentle, understated, and perfectly balanced, never intrusive. Upon check-in, guests receive fresh flowers and welcome fruits, and the room is refreshed daily with Yunnan-style floral arrangements. Turndown service includes peach gum and white fungus soup, along with seagull-shaped cookies – thoughtful details that truly shine. The 24-hour butler service is on-call, and staff members politely greet guests, always professional and sincere.
The room comfort exceeded expectations. The bedding is soft and plush, and the soundproofing is excellent. During the dry season, the whole-house humidity control system is a lifesaver, especially for those with allergies. The bathroom features a built-in TV in the bathtub and electric privacy glass. All mini-bar drinks are complimentary, and there's even freshly ground Yunnan small-grain coffee, adding a distinct local touch.
Breakfast is served in the lake-view restaurant, offering a rich variety of authentic dishes, including freshly prepared Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles, 'posu bao' (flaky steamed buns), and rose 'naiba Jiu' (a local milky wine). Dining by the lake creates an exceptional atmosphere. The accompanying heated pool is clean and uncrowded, perfect for relaxation.
Whether for business or leisure, this hotel is perfectly suited. Its century-old refined quality is irreplaceable. I will definitely choose Cuihu Hotel again on my next visit to Kunming!From£95

The room environment was decent, and the welcome fruit was a nice touch. I booked a suite since I was traveling with elderly family and a child, and it was quite spacious. However, the facilities are indeed showing their age. The air conditioning isn't on 24/7; it would turn on and off during the day. The bedroom without a window in the suite felt stuffy. The mini-fridge was right by the head of the bed, and since I had medication that needed refrigeration, I couldn't turn it off, leading to a loud humming noise all night. The staff were prompt and patient in addressing my concerns and explaining the situation, but they couldn't resolve the facility issues. Honestly, the breakfast really didn't justify the price. Not only was the variety limited, but the freshness was visibly unappetizing. The restaurant itself was old and dimly lit. I only had some porridge; the buns weren't fresh, and the fried items seemed reheated repeatedly. It felt like the food preparation was very perfunctory and didn't live up to the brand or price point. I had originally booked for two nights but checked out after one, having to find another hotel on short notice. This also affected my car rental plans, which were set for pick-up and drop-off at the hotel. Overall, it was a pretty negative experience. However, I must commend Trip.com's service; they were excellent in helping me communicate and get a refund for the second night, maintaining a superb attitude throughout. 💐During my stay in Kunming, I chose this hotel renowned for its tropical ambiance. Upon check-in, there were certainly commendable aspects, as well as a few minor disappointments, which I'll honestly document for fellow travelers' reference.
🌴The hotel's most captivating feature is its environment. The lush, layered greenery gives the distinct impression of being in a tropical garden. The space is expansive, and the rooms are quite spacious with a well-designed layout, making for a very comfortable stay. Although it's been open for some years, it's evident that maintenance is meticulous; the walls, floors, and furniture are kept clean and tidy, with no signs of age. The vibrant green foliage is abundant, with winding paths creating a serene atmosphere. Being here feels like escaping into a quiet, hidden sanctuary deep within the city, far from the hustle and bustle, with the evening breeze rustling through the trees, gentle and relaxing.🍃
🏋🏻♀️I also want to specifically mention the fitness center and swimming pool. Their size is uncommon for hotels of this type, with a full range of equipment and crystal-clear pool water, making for an invigorating swim. The changing room facilities are also well-equipped. For those who regularly exercise, these are definite bonus features.
☔️However, during this stay, I also encountered a few minor disappointments. What was particularly disheartening was the lack of appropriate service etiquette. The hotel's greeting service seemed subjectively biased, treating guests inconsistently. I observed other arrivals being greeted with polite welcomes and gentle assistance with their luggage, while upon my arrival, no one inquired or assisted me. This disparity, the absence of a warm greeting or help, subtly diminished the initial excitement I felt upon entering the hotel.
Furthermore, for me personally, the mattress was too soft, and the pillow height wasn't ideal, leading to some shoulder and neck discomfort after a night's sleep. The comfort level definitely didn't meet my expectations.
Also, my friend arrived before me, and the room they were initially assigned had a leaking ceiling, possibly due to old facilities in some rooms. While the hotel promptly addressed it, I still hope that housekeeping can thoroughly inspect rooms before assigning them to guests.From£98

It wasn't an over-the-top kind of attentiveness, but rather a comfortable and easygoing feeling everywhere. We chose a two-bedroom suite with our family here. The hotel facilities are quite old overall, and we stayed for three or four days. However, the front desk and butler service were excellent, almost always accommodating our requests. Overall, we were satisfied. The hotel is located right by Dianchi Lake, with separate lanes for vehicles and pedestrians. There's an observation deck not far from the hotel, and it's about 800-900 meters to Haigeng Park and Haihong Wetland. However, you still have to walk further to get to the cable car station, and I estimate the dam is even further – I didn't go there. The hotel is 2.3 kilometers from Xingti Road Station on Metro Line 5. Our package included one complimentary drop-off service to the metro station, which was really good. It would be even better if they offered round-trip shuttle service to the metro for backpackers.
However, there aren't many shops around the hotel. For dining, it's either the hotel restaurant or ordering takeout. Park 1903 Commercial Street is about 3 kilometers away, so it's more suitable if you have a car.
The hotel service was excellent. The front desk staff, housekeeping, and drivers were all incredibly gentle and friendly. The manager even proactively helped us with our luggage.

When I asked the reason, the front desk guy told me that it was for the safety of the guests that the deliveryman was not allowed to go upstairs. The hotel has trained guests that if they need takeout to the room, they can help deliver it. The overall feeling of the hotel is good, and the service attitude is very good. It is definitely more wedding venue, more local oriented, very nice territory around, good for photoshoot and stuff , nice and friendly staff helped me a lot, but it was a bit confusing in general, like i booked it cause of hotsprings and outdoor pool, turns out you cannot use the outdoor pool and from all hot things was working only one stone bath. So basically we ended up in a very strange situation when 3 groups of people have or to wait in line to that bath or seat on each other. However Indoor pool was nice, big and clean, but bring your towel. The room itself is ...let's say not cosy and a lot reminded a changing room, probably cause of sink right next to the bed. Food wise during breakfast buffet was good. Lots of variety from western and eastern.

Extended my stay. A heads-up: the 19th floor can get noisy. Around 8 or 9 PM every night, there were two or three loud, rumbling noises (like a suitcase being dragged over uneven ground). The first time it happened, my grandma was startled awake. After three consecutive nights, I asked the front desk staff, Xiao Zhu, on the 29th and learned it was due to the revolving restaurant affecting the 19th floor. Xiao Zhu offered to move us to the 18th floor, but since we were prepared for the noise after the first unexpected disturbance, we decided not to switch. Thanks for the attentive service! The The Mixc Kunming|2.93km from city center
The location of the hotel can also be near Vientiane City. The hotel is on the side of the road and is easier to find. The lobby on the first floor of the hotel is large. This hotel has several floors and dozens of rooms. The sound insulation is too poor. There is also a wooden board and mirror of a cabinet in the next room. The sound of boiling water in the next room was very clear, the sound of opening the cabinet door in the next room was also very clear, and the sound of talking in the next room was also very clear. The sound of bathing upstairs and next door was also very clear, the sound of rushing water. The voice in the corridor was also heard very clearly, the sound of walking in the corridor, the sound of pulling the suitcase, and it was also heard very clearly. On the evening of the New Year's Eve, I called the front desk several times and no one answered. On the second day, I asked the front desk person, and the front desk person said that it was a holiday. No one cleaned on the first day of the New Year, the front desk had to change my room, and I didn't change it. I have stayed in so many hotels. The first time I encountered such a situation, there was no one at the front desk on the 30th night of the New Year. There was no staff in the hotel and no security. There was no cleaning staff on the first day of the New Year. This is not a small hotel, it is also a relatively large hotel, how can this situation occur? I stayed at this hotel for more than ten days and didn't see who the manager of the hotel was from the beginning to the end. In addition to a staff member at the front desk, it was the cleaning person.Disclaimer: This article has been provided by an individual contributor or third party platform.
