Cuihu District Kunming|1.57km from city center
In my opinion, this is the must-stay hotel near Cuihu Lake. It's a classic hotel with a superb location. Unfortunately, it's been open for a long time, so the facilities are a bit outdated. However, the hygiene is still up to par. If you don't mind older facilities, this is definitely the place to stay, and I don't recall many other new hotels around Cuihu Lake anyway.
The breakfast is as delicious as ever, especially the variety of breads 🥯. The only minor issue was when I asked the chef at the noodle station for a bowl of rice noodles with less broth; he seemed a bit annoyed, perhaps due to the National Day crowds.
When leaving, I bought some snowflake crisps again. The staff at the Western restaurant were very friendly, and the doorman was also nice. There were fewer bellhops, but their attitude was still good. The front desk was okay. I hope the hotel continues to improve, and I really wish they would update the facilities, otherwise, such a prime location goes to waste.FromAU$80

After leaving a green hotel full of corridors and doors early in the morning, arriving at the Holiday Inn City Center was a truly pleasant experience. The hotel staff were very enthusiastic and even upgraded me to a Grand Corner Room. Lying on the sofa by the large window and looking outside was so relaxing, it really brightened my mood. I ordered the breakfast small-pot rice noodles, and it was delivered quickly. The mini-bar also provided complimentary tamarind juice, which was perfect for cutting through the richness of the Erkuai (rice cakes). I also requested a knife to cut my mangosteen, and it was promptly delivered. The only minor regret was that the bathtub stopper was missing at the bottom; I came back too late that day to ask the staff to fix it. This is a small flaw, and the hotel is still excellent, but I do hope it can be fixed to make the stay even more perfect.FromAU$68

This 5-star hotel in downtown Kunming easily gets a solid 10/10 from me—the value for money is off the charts.
Location: While it’s a bit of a distance from the main attractions, it sits conveniently right in the middle of everything. It's a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. I especially loved the entrance being tucked away on a slight slope, offering far more privacy than most trendy, ”Instagrammable” hotels.
Service: Absolutely top-tier, a full 10/10. Every single staff member I encountered was incredibly professional, carrying themselves with dignity, warmth, and grace. They were proactive in greeting guests, offering help, solving issues, and checking in on our experience. These subtle details truly showcase the management quality of a long-standing, prestigious local 5-star hotel.
Room & Amenities: We upgraded from the originally booked 210-degree panoramic room to an Executive Suite, and it was worth every penny. The suite was significantly more spacious, with a much better layout and view. It featured two bathrooms with separate wet and dry areas. On top of that, we enjoyed complimentary access to the 32nd-floor Executive Lounge. The stay was so comfortable that we ended up extending for another two nights.
Value for Money: Beyond amazing. Rates went up slightly during the National Day holiday, but the increase was so minimal it was genuinely heartwarming.

I was very satisfied with my stay at Crowne Plaza Kunming City Centre. The front office managers, Jenny, Nova, and Angel, followed up on my room every day and asked about my needs, making me feel at home. The room was clean and tidy, and the soundproofing was excellent. I highly recommend it!

I prefer high-floor rooms, so the front desk upgraded me to a 47th-floor room with a view of Dianchi Lake. At night, the city lights were dazzling, and when I woke up in the morning, I realized there was also a distant view of Dianchi Lake, which was quite picturesque.
The service was very attentive and thoughtful. A minor hiccup with luggage delivery didn't detract from the overall excellent impression. We checked in quite late, and they provided welcome fruits, snacks, and a small cake. To apologize for the late check-in, they even offered us complimentary breakfast.
The breakfast was indeed very rich, and the selection was good. The only slight downside was the absence of Erkuai (a local Yunnan specialty).

Cuihu District Kunming|1.6km from city center
This isn't my first time staying at the Cuihu Hotel. I was initially torn between here and the Grand Hyatt, but I just couldn't resist coming back because I think it's better. The service is excellent, and it's very close to Cuihu Lake, so you can go for a stroll when it's less crowded. For coffee lovers, there are also many cafes nearby where you can relax and enjoy a cup.
Xiao Kong, Xiao Fan, and Xiao Deng provided incredibly thoughtful service. Since we were traveling with a child, they even upgraded our room and reserved a quiet, high-floor room according to our preferences. Although it wasn't the season for watching seagulls, Zhang Can at the front desk still gave our child a small gift, which they absolutely loved!
Even though the hotel has been open for a while and some of the facilities aren't as new as those in more recently built hotels, my whole family agreed that there's no limit to how many times we'd stay at Cuihu.FromAU$136

My overall experience during this stay was absolutely fantastic, and I must give a special shout-out to Lily (the server). She was incredibly welcoming during check-in, proactively helped with luggage to my room, and thoroughly explained all the hotel's amenities. Knowing I was traveling with two young children, she thoughtfully provided special kids' slippers and toothbrushes and even added extra safety rails, ensuring my little ones' safety during our stay.
Since it was raining and difficult to go out, Lily actively invited the kids to participate in the hotel's DIY craft activities. My younger child is only two and not yet skilled at mixing and applying colors, but the staff patiently helped with the paints and guided her hand-in-hand through the creation process. At one point, my older child needed to attend an online meeting, and it was easy to be disturbed by her younger sibling in the room. After speaking with Lily, she immediately suggested using the hotel's study room, where she flexibly managed the ambient noise based on the children present, which was a huge help for me.
Objectively, the room's hardware facilities might have a slight drawback, but the staff's exceptionally thoughtful and proactive, warm service more than made up for any shortcomings in the hardware. Dianchi Lake Scenic Area/ Sunac World Kunming|8.2km from city center
First of all, the hotel offers exceptional scenery. From the room's balcony, you can enjoy a distant view of the West Hills, and the surroundings are wonderfully tranquil. The grounds feature black swans, peacocks, and flowing water landscapes, making it an ideal spot for solo travelers to unwind and relax.
Secondly, the Mid-Autumn Festival room decor was quite ingenious, and the Phalaenopsis orchids placed in the executive room were both beautiful and elegant. The view and service standards of the Executive Lounge are above average, and the terrace offers a top-notch view. When the battery in my room's computer mouse ran out, the butler promptly arranged for a replacement of the same model to be delivered, for which I am very grateful. From an operational standpoint, consumables like this could easily be billed separately, so this was an extra bonus point.
As both a long-term traveler and a hospitality professional with over thirty years of experience in service management, based on my stay, I would like to offer a few constructive suggestions for improvement:
1. The welcome fruit presentation felt rather perfunctory, served only on a simple wooden tray with loosely stretched cling wrap, detracting from the overall presentation.
2. The Guest Service Center phone often went unanswered for long periods, requiring multiple repeated calls to get through.
3. The bathroom was stocked with disposable bathtub bags and disposable toilet seat covers. From a guest's perspective, these items tend to evoke two associations: either the room cleaning standards are not up to par, or there is a lack of confidence in the guests' hygiene habits. Not all guests appreciate or approve of such amenities.
4. The Executive Lounge is equipped with high-quality coffee cups, but lacks matching stainless steel teaspoons, providing only disposable stir sticks instead. This creates a mismatch in the attention to detail.
5. The Executive Lounge lacks sufficient privacy; the space resembles a guest room hallway, allowing other guests to wander freely through the lounge area.
6. During my stay, a guest brought a photography crew to shoot wedding photos on the Executive Lounge terrace. After the shoot, the photography staff stayed in the lounge area to rest and help themselves to desserts, and no staff members intervened to dissuade them. This situation compromises the experience of paying executive guests.
7. The entrance facade of the breakfast restaurant is rather small, which fails to match the hotel's brand positioning and overall design style.
8. Frontline staff in the breakfast restaurant were predominantly interns, appearing tense and stiff-faced, lacking guest interaction and delivering a mechanical service. The root cause lies not with the interns themselves, but in the service shortcomings brought about by the hotel's cost-cutting and efficiency-driven strategies.
9. Throughout my 5-day, 4-night stay, I never saw any management staff in formal attire patrolling the floor, proactively inquiring about guests' experiences, or collecting feedback and complaints. The breakfast rush, in particular, is the golden window for on-site guest engagement, and missing it means a missed opportunity for client retention.
Special praise goes to Guest Relations Butler Mia, who consistently did her utmost to respond to guest requests. Even when constrained by resources and authority, her proactive attitude in striving for guest satisfaction is commendable. I would just like to offer Mia one professional piece of advice: no matter how smooth and enthusiastic online WeChat communication may be, it can never replace face-to-face interaction during the stay. The optimal touchpoint is the check-in process; if she could personally accompany guests to their rooms and explain the facilities, it would quickly build a strong first impression and potentially turn ordinary guests into loyal ones.
What impressed me most as a hospitality professional during this stay was Shi Yunli, an outsourced housekeeping staff member. Her service awareness and warm hospitality set a benchmark for service that far exceeds what her salary level might suggest. A large part of why I am willing to give the hotel a high score is due to the exceptional experience she provided.
Overall, the hotel's pricing is higher than the average for five-star hotels in Kunming, but its hardware and overall service can only be described as mediocre. If the hotel continues to refine its service details moving forward and encourages employees to develop an awareness of proactive communication and warm hospitality, I would still prioritize staying here the next time I visit Yunnan.FromAU$132

We had a very nice 8 day stay here. The restaurant was cozy and served good food at decent prices. I loved meeting so many people, especially the Chinese kids, via translator.The outdoor area was spacious with lots of green space to visit, write, read, etc. It even has a waterfall. You would never know you were in the city. And they recycle.
Our room was on the top floor and looked down on the garden. We had two chairs at the foot of the bed. And a desk in the entry hall near the bathroom. It was small, but adequate. Clean, comfortable and quiet. We had an AC/heater. It rained one day and was chilly and damp. So having the heat option kept us nice and toasty. The shower had good pressure. We got water every day, but we filled our water bottles in the restaurant.
We took advantage of the washer, a nominal fee, and were happy we could walk up a few stairs to hang them in the sun to dry. But there is a dryer if it's raining.
The location is excellent. One block from Green Lake. Plenty of restaurants close by. The metro is a short distance just around the corner. You can get to the Airport or any of the train stations. And Yangxi Eat Street is just a 15 minute walk. Or, $1.00 Didi Ride.
Not luxurious, but a very clean and comfortable place. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It's one of the best and I am writing this from another hostel in Chengdu that I would not recommend.FromAU$10

The hotel is huge and luxurious. It takes a long time to walk from the room to the breakfast buffet, but you can just think of it as a workout. The room is spacious, quiet, and well-cleaned. The service attitude is excellent. The hotel has a great location, very close to all the attractions around Dianchi Lake. The downside is that the toothbrush provided is of poor quality. I've stayed at several hotels in Kunming, and it seems they all use the same kind of terrible toothbrushes. Our stay was absolutely perfect! The hotel room was clean, the service was excellent, and it offered great value for money – we were very comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding; everything was freshly made, not pre-prepared. The pastries and buns were handmade and absolutely delicious – it's rare to find such homemade quality at a hotel. Right next to the hotel is a large, beautiful golf course. A big plus is the shuttle service to the cable car and subway station, and they even offer transfers to the Nationalities Park for sightseeing! I also have to commend the hotel's partnered photography service; photographer Xiao Xiao was professional and patient, with a great eye for composition and aesthetics. Was there with for 2 nights. Good swimming and natural hotspring facilities. The rooms are a little old but the towels and sheets were very white and clean. Beds are spacious. As they ran out of non spiking rooms that can accommodate three pax, we checked out the smoking room. We were also pleasantly surprised that the room did not smell of smoke. The hotel is situated on a slope. Although it's away from the city center, the upside is that it's very peaceful. We originally booked for just one night, but upon seeing a hot spring right next to it from our room window—which turned out to be part of the hotel—we decisively extended our stay for another night. It is definitely more wedding venue, more local oriented, very nice territory around, good for photoshoot and stuff , nice and friendly staff helped me a lot, but it was a bit confusing in general, like i booked it cause of hotsprings and outdoor pool, turns out you cannot use the outdoor pool and from all hot things was working only one stone bath. So basically we ended up in a very strange situation when 3 groups of people have or to wait in line to that bath or seat on each other. However Indoor pool was nice, big and clean, but bring your towel. The room itself is ...let's say not cosy and a lot reminded a changing room, probably cause of sink right next to the bed. First off, the location is incredibly convenient, right by Cuihu Lake. Getting around by bus, walking, biking, or taxi is super easy from here – that's a big plus.
The room itself was tiny, and the soundproofing was mediocre. The tatami bed was against three walls, and I still don't understand what that black 'blob' was for on the first night – maybe to cover a pipe or something? It made the room feel very cramped. For the next two days, they moved me to a slightly brighter room, which required a 'member upgrade,' even though it seemed like the exact same room type – I don't get that. The mattress was decent, but there was a lot of dust, especially by the window. Also, as many other guests mentioned, the shower and toilet areas aren't separated. A shower curtain isn't enough to stop the water from flowing all over the toilet area – a clear design flaw. Then there were either water stains on the ceiling or mildew spots on the shower caulking, and the ventilation felt pretty poor. The service was actually very good, but the facilities were just average. Overall value for money was okay, with the good location being its main selling point.FromAU$52

It's very convenient for food, accommodation, and getting around. It's just a short walk to Kunming Oriental Plaza, Spring City 66 (the twin towers), Nanqiang Street, Nanping Street, Kunming Old Street, and Shuncheng Shopping Center. 1️⃣ Location: The hotel is very close to Cuihu Lake. We walked with our stroller to Cuihu Park and Yuantongshan Zoo within a day. Downstairs is a prime citywalk route, passing by Zhibushi (a stationery store) and Rubber Bookstore. Ordering takeout was incredibly convenient, with a wide variety of options and delicious food. We enjoyed Dianhong lattes while tea-tasting uphill and avocado yogurt from Xiangzi Tea Shop.
2️⃣ Room Condition: The 13th-floor front desk was well-decorated and impressive. The room we booked was advertised as 28 square meters, but the actual room we were initially assigned upon check-in didn't seem that large. Plus, the window overlooked an old residential complex, which didn't match the city street view mentioned in the description. After contacting the hotel, they moved us to a room with a street view that was also slightly larger. 🛀 The showerhead was excellent; showering was very enjoyable.
3️⃣ Service: Check-in was after 2:00 PM, but even though we arrived after 3:00 PM, we still waited about 15 minutes to check in. Calls to the front desk were answered quickly, and you could tell the staff were dedicated, but perhaps they were a bit overwhelmed due to too many guests.
4️⃣ Facilities: There's a laundry room and treadmill on the 1st floor. The washer and dryer worked well, and the treadmill was good too. An hour of incline walking finally burned some calories. The downside is that the elevator is quite small and easily gets overloaded.
5️⃣ Value for Money: We paid 500+ for the hotel. Since the room was still quite small, I feel most of the money went towards the location, so the value for money wasn't very high. If location isn't your top priority, a hotel on Nanping Street would also be a good option.FromAU$54

Great hotel, super clean and modern rooms that were very well equipped with anything you could need. They have outside gardens on each floor and beautiful courtyards to hmrest when you want a break from being out all day.
The breakfast is delicious, a good selection of local and western items.
Location was very cool next to the night market so plenty of fun places to have meals and despite the market being there all day, the rooms were extremely quiet.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at 26 Life hotel thank to the staffs and its location.
What we like most here:
1. Staff: Xiao Bai and Xiao Wan, the 2 receptionists are lovely guys. Xiao Bai pick us up outside of the buiding to help us with the luggage. He is also professional in handling his work. he seems a bit serious on his face but once you know him, he is a nice guy. Xiao Wan is a lovely young boy. We talked a lot, he made us yummy milk tea, bought for us ice crea, fruit tea....and gave us some sourvenir. They are the ones made my stay here. Thank you guys! Moreover the hotel staffs also helped to received a package for me before my check in.
2. Location: it locates on the 4th floor of a building. It has a good location, where we can access easily to the shopping mall, the food stores. There is a small food court on the ground floor of the same building. The 1st store after the stair case once you enter the building sells pretty good noodles.
3. The balcony: my room is 201, with a balcony overlooking the garden on the ground and an open space to the big building in front, which gave us a peaceful corner to sit and talk and enjoy the nice spring weather.
4. The costume: the hotel offers free Miao costume to wear and take photo inside the hotel. Xiao Wan, the receptionist also help to take soem nice photos for us.
What should be improved:
1. The cleanliness: the room facilities were a bit old but the cleanliness is definitely something can be changed and improved: like the table in the balcony, which should have been clean the surface.
2. The amenities: the big bath towels are torn out at the 2 edges. They can be reused as footmat or rag to recycle. New bath towel should be seriously considered.
3. The TV: A slow internet connection is causing the TV to stutter and lag, making it impossible to watch.making it not enjoyable to watch.FromAU$42
