In the ‘Elf’ movie too, Will Ferrel as ‘Buddy’ comes to New York in search of his family and encounters with real Santa that features many Ney York locations like Central Park and the Christmas Tree at 30, Rockefeller Plaza. The Tree has made its special appearance in many Christmas movies like Home Alone II and the Elf.

For over 8 decades, this tree and the holiday decorations in the surrounding location has been the representation of Christmas for New Yorkers and tourists alike. The tree is lighted, and during the first week of December and each year, many crowds the sidewalks of this iconic location to witness the same. It is also broadcasted on national TV for millions to watch. The center’s iconic Ice Rink is the place when Buddy visits with Jovie on his first date and kiss.

The Macy’s Herald Square flagship store has a starring role in the movie ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’ The movie is even named after Macy’s address, which is located on the 34th street between 6th and 7th avenues here. The store has been an icon of Herald Square and Manhattan in general for over 150 years. It is so vast that it covers an entire city block with 11 levels.

In this 1947 Christmas classic, the Macy’s store area is the location where Kris Kringle fulfills his role as the in-store Santa Claus. Kris Kringle helps the customer to find Christmas presents in this store and also send some of them to the rival store, Gimbel. The Gimbel reciprocates in the same way, ending the rivalry between the two giant stores. You can relive the experience by visiting the Macy’s store at Herald Square. The film was remade again in 1994, but Cole’s fictitious store was used as a replacement, as Macy’s didn’t want to involve this time. The rival store, Gimbel from the original movie, also went out of business and was replaced by the fictitious “Shopper’s Express” store.

The Wollman Rink location plays an important role in the romantic movie with a touch of comedy, Serendipity. In this 2001 Christmas movie, the main characters of the film, Jonathan and Sara have their first encounter at the Wollman Rink, while ice skating and then they both return to the same place looking for each other.

The rink is named after Kate Wollman, who donated a huge amount for the rink. The rink is open for skating from October to April and then is open for various other activities, mostly for music venues during the summer months. The Rink location also offers a brilliant view of the Manhattan skyline. So, grab your ice skaters and have a great time around here.
