Singapore Hotels: Where to Stay from Orchard Road to Chinatown

Singapore Hotels: Where to Stay from Orchard Road to Chinatown

About Singapore

Singapore packs futuristic skylines, gleaming malls, colourful heritage streets, and tropical beaches into a single compact city. Marina Bay anchors the modern side of town: Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay with its Supertree Grove, and Merlion Park are the big-ticket stops for first-time visitors. For a different rhythm, Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam form the city's cultural core — Chinatown revolves around the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and hawker food, Little India around Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and the 24-hour Mustafa Centre, and Kampong Glam around Sultan Mosque and the mural-lined lanes of Haji Lane.

Where to Stay in Singapore

Orchard Road

Singapore's prime shopping belt doubles as a central lodging base. High-end malls, department stores, and the tree-lined Orchard Boulevard define the area, with the MRT putting most of the city within a 15-minute ride.

When to Book Singapore Hotels

  • For the cheapest Singapore hotel rates, book 2 to 3 months before your stay.
  • During peak travel periods, lock in a Singapore room 6 to 12 months ahead; for off-peak dates, 3 to 6 months out is enough.
  • Weekday rates in Singapore tend to run slightly lower than weekend rates. Avoid major holidays and big-ticket events like the F1 Grand Prix weekend for the best prices.
  • Search across hotel comparison platforms, look for package deals bundling flights and rooms, and join loyalty programmes to surface Singapore hotel discounts.
  • Skip booking on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday: these are peak planning days when rates in Singapore spike as travellers lock in trips.
  • Trip.com runs hotel booking promo codes and coupons for 2026, with verified guest reviews and price-comparison tools built into the platform.

Singapore Travel Essentials

Getting Around

  • Singapore's MRT spans 6 main lines covering most major attractions. Trains run roughly 5:30 AM to midnight, every 2 to 5 minutes during peak hours.
  • Tap your contactless bank card or mobile wallet via the SimplyGo system — no separate transit card needed. Most tourist trips cost S$1 to S$3 depending on distance.
  • The Singapore Tourist Pass costs S$17 to S$29 for 1 to 3 days of unlimited MRT and bus rides, useful on heavy sightseeing days. Eating or drinking on the MRT carries fines up to S$500.

Hawker Food & Local Eats

  • Singapore's hawker culture was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2020. Hainanese chicken rice — poached chicken with fragrant rice cooked in chicken fat, served with chilli-garlic sauce — is widely considered the unofficial national dish. Tian Tian at Maxwell Food Centre is the most famous stall.
  • Chinatown Complex is Singapore's largest hawker centre with 220-plus stalls. Other iconic centres include Maxwell Food Centre, Old Airport Road, Lau Pa Sat (known for Satay Street at night), and Newton Food Centre.
  • Locals "chope" (reserve) tables by placing tissue packets on seats. Most hawker stalls are cash-only, and tipping is not expected.

Entry Requirements

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Singapore.
  • US, UK, Australian, and EU citizens can visit Singapore visa-free for tourism, typically for 30 to 90 days at the discretion of the immigration officer.
  • All travellers must complete the electronic SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival. The local currency is the Singapore Dollar (SGD); 1 USD equals roughly 1.27 SGD as of mid-2025.

Weather

  • Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate: temperatures hover between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius (79 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit) year-round with consistently high humidity.
  • The Northeast Monsoon from November to January brings the heaviest rain, with monthly totals reaching nearly 250 mm.
  • February through August are the driest months, making this the best window for outdoor exploration around Marina Bay, Sentosa, and the Botanic Gardens.

※ Prices and policies vary by season and are subject to change. Confirm with official sources before booking.

Amazing
GGuest UserThis stay far exceeded my expectations, and I simply have to recommend it! The hotel's location is excellent, right by the subway station with a vibrant commercial area and local eateries nearby. It's incredibly convenient for getting around, shopping, and dining. It offers a tranquil atmosphere amidst the hustle and bustle, making for a very comfortable stay. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive. They were always patient and gentle, promptly responding to any requests. We even received a wonderful surprise upon check-in: a complimentary room upgrade to a larger, more elegant space. The limited two-person breakfast was also upgraded to a three-person meal, with a rich variety of delicious options. The rooms were clean, tidy, and well-equipped, showing great attention to detail from the hotel. Overall, the value for money is outstanding. From the convenience of its location to the exceptional service, everything was impeccable. I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit and genuinely recommend it to everyone!

AAnonymous UserThe hotel environment is beautiful, like a resort in the city center. My children absolutely loved the outdoor pool and splash facilities. When they learned that it was one adult and two children staying, they thoughtfully pulled out the sofa bed so there were three beds in the room. Although the hotel is a bit old, the facilities are very well maintained, and I'd give the hardware a high score. The breakfast quality also met my already high expectations, with a wide variety of choices and excellent quality. There's a shuttle bus every hour to the busiest part of Orchard Road. However, in terms of service, I'm only giving a 3. My disappointment lies with the check-in process. When we arrived by taxi, there was no greeter. At the check-in counter, there were three queues, with about three families in each. I picked one and waited for about 20 minutes to be served. At the time, I thought the efficiency here was a bit low, and there wasn't the usual welcoming smile or a glass of water like in other four or five-star hotels. While I was thinking this, a female manager walked back from a distance, looked at me with a cold expression, and asked, 'Are you not queuing? Look, everyone else is queuing.' Her unreasonable and unfounded accusation made me feel embarrassed and offended. Was this a stereotypical prejudice against Chinese faces? I explained in English, but she remained noncommittal. Instead, the staff member who was actually checking me in and understood the situation said 'sorry' to me. In short, this female manager's arrogance and discrimination marred my good impression of the hotel. I hope she sees this review.

DDiscovererWe stayed at this hotel in July 2026. From Changi Airport, we took the MRT. After clearing customs, you need to follow the signs for 'Train to city' or 'MRT'. On the way, buy an Ez-link card at one of the tourist kiosks. We were offered an unlimited pass for $40, but we declined and bought top-up cards for $10 each, valid for our transit period in Singapore. From Singapore Airport to the city center, you first need to travel two stops to Tanah Merah station, alight at platform B, and then board a train marked 'to city' from the same platform. This is on the Green Line. Get off at Raffles Place station. Then, go up the stairs or take the elevator, and once upstairs, look for Exit D or E. Exit D is closer and more convenient for the hotel, but it goes through a shopping mall which might be closed in the evenings or on weekends. From either exit, turn right and walk along the main road without turning off. The main entrance of the building where the hotel is located leads to the CapitaSpring business center. You don't need to enter there; instead, walk a few meters past the main entrance on the right side, towards the taxi stand, where you'll find the hotel entrance. From there, you need to go up to the 9th floor, where the reception is. The hotel has three elevators: one for the reception from the 1st to the 9th floor, which is accessible to everyone. The second elevator goes from the 9th to the 17th floor and can only be used with a room key card. This elevator leads to the guest rooms. The third elevator is on the 17th floor in the garden and leads to the 51st floor observation deck, which is only open on weekdays until 6 PM. Water dispensers are located opposite the elevators on each floor. To use the elevator to the rooms, you need to tap your key card and select your floor on the panel; the panel will then indicate which of the three elevators (by a letter designation) will arrive. The staff were polite. There was no deposit required upon check-in, but they asked for a credit card number for registration. The rooms are clean, cozy, and have a good view. The renovation is fresh. The curtains are practically blackout, providing excellent darkening. However, there's a green sensor light on the ceiling in the room's hallway that seems quite bright at night, like a nightlight. This didn't bother us, but if you want to sleep in complete darkness, you won't be able to without a sleep mask. The soundproofing in the rooms is good; we couldn't hear our neighbors. The room has everything necessary, including a refrigerator, an ironing board, and an iron. There's also a safe, a capsule coffee machine, tea and coffee making facilities, and even soft hangers in the wardrobe. The pillows felt uncomfortable to me, but that's probably the only drawback. The room was cleaned daily; trash was emptied, and towels were changed. The Wi-Fi was good. Overall, we liked the hotel, including its central location.

VvivianIt was a very pleasant trip. I've always had a good impression of Conrad, and my stays at several of their hotels in China have been excellent, so I chose Conrad again for my trip to Singapore. It didn't disappoint. Although the facilities aren't as new as those in China, the cleanliness was impeccable, and the service was absolutely satisfying. It was my child's birthday this month, and the front desk thoughtfully prepared a little card and a small cake, which was a really warm gesture. I will definitely choose to stay at Conrad again on my next visit to Singapore!

GGuest UserI had a great stay at lyf Funan Singapore. The biggest advantage is definitely the location. It is within walking distance of many popular attractions such as Clarke Quay, Merlion Park, Marina Bay, and the National Gallery. City Hall MRT is also just a few minutes away, making it very easy to get around Singapore. The complimentary breakfast was a nice bonus and a great way to start the day. The hotel is also connected to Funan Mall, so there are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops right downstairs. Overall, if you’re looking for a clean, convenient hotel in a central location with free breakfast, I would definitely recommend

AAnonymous UserThe location is ideal and easily accessible, near Funan IT mall and various shopping malls, as well as reachable by MRT and buses. The room is clean and facilities are complete, except that the air conditioner is centrally controlled and the room is still warm despite 23 degrees. Nonetheless, there is fan in the room to cool down. The lounge service is absolutely good. Overall, the hotel is recommendable.

JJossa Flores FangoniloWe celebrate our wedding anniversary and we enjoyed our time at the hotel and near the areas of Sentosa. It’s like a home away from home. SSenxinmiaoyanyaoOur room, though small, was clean and tidy, which made for a very pleasant stay. The whole hotel had a fresh feel to it, and the front desk staff were very helpful. Both female receptionists we encountered, and the male receptionist with darker skin, provided excellent service. The hotel offers luggage storage, and its location is very close to the MRT station for Sentosa, with a large shopping mall nearby. It's an excellent place to stay if you're visiting Universal Studios. I'd like to advise others considering the same room type that, although our room had a glass window, it couldn't be opened. It can get a bit stuffy without the air conditioning on.

GGuest UserMy impression of the stay was positive. The hostel looks well-maintained, it was clean in the room and common areas, which is especially important for this type of accommodation. The conditions were comfortable enough: you can calmly spend the night, rest, and use everything you need. The location and overall environment made the stay convenient and peaceful

XXiangwanbianshijieOverall, the room was quite small and the facilities were a bit old. The bedding was clean, no bugs or anything. However, it wasn't a duvet but more like a blanket made of a large bath towel material. Let's just say it kept me from getting cold while sleeping. The air conditioner was clunking loudly at first, but miraculously, it quieted down after I adjusted the settings – I guess I got lucky. My child left the travel adapter in the room. Several hours later, I went to the front desk, and despite my broken English, the lovely front desk staff found it for me. A quick registration and it was all sorted. The overall service was quite warm and welcoming. Staying one night was acceptable. Oh, and by the way, there's no wet/dry separation in the bathroom. If that's important to you, make sure to check before booking. Many hotels in Singapore don't have wet/dry separation, likely due to space constraints. It's within walking distance of Clarke Quay, which I recommend visiting at night – it's very close. It's also not far from the MRT station. If you're up for a walk, you can even stroll to Fort Canning Park.
