What to Do at Shanghai Happy Valley (Rides in 6 Zones)
The park’s 6 zones each have a unique theme and rides for different ages. Below’s the must-try rides in each area:
1. Happy Hour Zone (Family-Friendly)
This is the first zone you’ll see—gentle rides perfect for kids and families:
- Carousel: Double-decker, palace-style ride with galloping horses; great for photos.
- Rotating Swinging Umbrella: Swing in the air like a “silver swallow”—slow and fun for all ages.
- Happy Match: Colorful bumper cars; safe for kids (adults can join too!).
- Gu Mu You Long: Thrill-seekers note! Wooden roller coaster (“ancestor of roller coasters”) with 1,200m track and 10+ zero-gravity moments.
2. Shanghai Bund Zone (Thrill-Seekers)
For adrenaline lovers—these rides are fast and intense:
- Peak Glory: Suspended drop roller coaster; 60m vertical drop (free fall feeling!).
- Big Pendulum: Swings 15 stories high at 110km/h—feel overweight/weightlessness.
- Peak Moment: 22m bouncing tower; slow rise, sudden drop, and quick bounce-back.
3. Shangri-La Zone (Adventure & Water Fun)
Mix of speed and water rides—great for summer:
- Blue Moon Flying Car: 110km/h speed, 30m dive, 2-second acceleration.
- Canyoning: 369m-long rafting ride through a “canyon”—gets you slightly wet (bring a poncho!).
- Spinning Hump: Glide and spin on a 90m undulating track—wind in your hair!
4. Happy Ocean Zone (Family & Kids)
This area is all ocean-themed. Little kids have a great time playing here and it's also suitable for the whole family.
- Ocean Adventure: A suspended family roller coaster. It's slow and acceptable to children. Looking up, you can see the blue sky. Looking down, you can also see the fountain. It's particularly pleasant.
- Seaboat: "Sea Spaceship" sometimes flies up into the sky and sometimes glides over the water surface, splashing up small water splashes. It's particularly cool to play with it when it's hot.
- Colorful Vortex: A colorful rotating cup. You can control the speed by turning the steering wheel yourself. The faster you turn it, the more fun it is. Children all love the feeling of being "in control" by themselves.
5. Gold Mine Town (Immersive Thrills)
This place is in a steampunk style. When playing on the project, it feels like stepping into a story, with a lot of details.
- Mine Adventure: "Mine Adventure" is a 360-degree immersive roller coaster that will pass through the "mine tunnel", along with sound effects and fog, giving the feeling of really exploring in the mine.
- Treasure Island: This is the highest place in the park. Standing on it, you can see Sheshan Mountain and Moon Lake in the distance, and the scenery of the entire park can also be taken in at a glance. It's super beautiful for taking photos.
6. Hurricane Bay Zone (Water & Spins)
If you want to play with water and love spinning around, come here. These activities can help you cool down in summer.
- Raging Water: "Raging Water" has a 26-meter-high slide. When you rush down from it, you'll splash a lot of water. You must wear a raincoat, or you'll get soaked all over.
- The Perfect Storm: "The Perfect Storm" is a 360-degree rotating project, accompanied by a musical fountain. It spins dizzyfully, as if being swept into a storm. It is suitable for adults to play.
- Rapid Cyclone: The 18-meter-tall "wind wheel" project, like a big windmill, can do somersaults, spin in circles and swing. It can spin 360 degrees. It's exciting and fun.
What to See at Shanghai Happy Valley (Shows)
Rides aren’t the only fun—there are wonderful performances every day, especially at night.
The New Shanghai Story (Stunt Show)
The drama is set in Shanghai in the 1930s and uses very cool movie special effects: planes, flames, explosions and shooting. It tells the stories of old Shanghai. Sometimes you can even join in (interact!)" Watch it in the Shanghai Film and Television Special Effects Zone.
Lake of Illusions (Night Show)
This is a big one! It was produced by an international team called ECA2 and lasts only 18 minutes, but it is extremely astonishing. The theme is Chinese mythology (" Prehistoric World, Long Sword "). They use light, sound, electricity and water to make people feel that both time and space are changing. Look from the lake in the center of the park - find a good spot early.
Zero Distance Themed Performances
These are all small and interesting programs available throughout the day:
- Sea lion show (cute tricks, very suitable for children).
- A joyous parade (floats and dancers).
- Fancy Slam Dunk show (The basketball players danced very coolly).
- The cartoon dolls walking around - take pictures with them!
Just look for the signs in the park and you will know when they will set off.
