I stayed in a Japanese-style room in this hotel 10 years ago and it was a very good experience. I booked a double room this time. The facilities were a bit outdated. There was a musty smell when I first entered the room. Just spray it with the deodorant on the table and it will be fine. The location of the hotel is very good. It is in the center of Tochigi. It is only a few minutes away from the Babami River and the old prefectural office. There is a department store across the street. There is a 24-hour convenience store in two or three minutes' walk. The train station is about one kilometer away.

Cleanliness, facilities and amenities are good, but there are few 々 dissatisfaction with sound and temperature management. Is it a special point that you can't eat and drink in the room? I stopped at the public bath in the neighborhood but I was very satisfied there. It was a goldfish hot water.

Beijing Xinqiao Hotel was such a perfect start to our first trip to China! The front desk staff was helpful and attentive. The room was great, with such a cool city view!! The bed was super comfortable. Please note: there is no heating in the rooms, but they do provide warm blankets! We really appreciated all of the room amenities (especially the great smelling shampoo and conditioner!) but especially liked the bottles of water. After long days of walking it was nice to have them in the room. The hotel is bustling with tourists and the lobby is usually busy, but our room was quiet! Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious - but be warned going around 9 AM you may need to be patient to wait for a table. I received packages while there and the concierge assisted with that as well. A wonderful stay - highly recommend!!!

Seriously, the moment I walked in, the front desk lady's smile just warmed my heart! She immediately told us we could get a free room upgrade – talk about good luck, it cut my travel fatigue in half! The room itself was amazing! Bright and spotless, I even ran my hand along the corners, absolutely dust-free! It wasn't huge, but it had everything, neatly arranged without feeling cramped. And the soundproofing? Incredible! Once the window was closed at night, it was super quiet. Combined with how comfy the bed was, I practically fell asleep instantly! Breakfast was also top-notch, from Chinese congee to Western pastries, a huge variety, filling and delicious! Plus, the hotel's location is super convenient; just around the corner is a food street – perfect for a night out eating and exploring! All in all, this experience was fantastic! I've already decided this is my go-to place whenever I'm in the area! Trust me, go stay here!

The location is fantastic, making it super convenient for getting around. Wangfujing Pedestrian Street is just around the corner. It's a 5-minute walk to Exit C of Jinyu Hutong Station on Line 8. From the hotel, you can walk to the Forbidden City's Meridian Gate (Wumen) entrance for ticket checking by following the wall from Donghua Gate, which takes about 25 minutes. The room is small but has everything you need and is perfectly adequate. The breakfast is decent too; it's great to fill up before heading out for a stroll. The front desk staff were warm and attentive, highly recommend!

First off, the location is excellent. Chongwenmen subway station is right nearby, making it super convenient to get to all the attractions. Secondly, there are plenty of dining and shopping options around. There's a fantastic Hunan restaurant right across the street, and the Hongxing Qianjin Bakery is also close by. Finally, the room itself was quite spacious, but the facilities are a bit dated, and the lighting is a bit dim.

This time, I brought my child to the hotel. I'd inquired beforehand and knew they couldn't provide a crib, so I made do by pushing the sofa and bed together to create a safe sleeping space. The hotel's service attitude was good, and the room was very spacious. I tried out the pool in the morning; it's connected to the gym. There weren't any staff around, so no towels were provided, but the water temperature was lovely and warm. The pool itself is small but very quiet.

Family Fun | 2 Adults & 1 Child - Kids' Adventure Park Access (during stay): The little one absolutely loved the kids' club and didn't want to leave, even when I was managing the child alone, it was stress-free. The hotel is connected to a mall, making dining, shopping, and getting around very convenient. Summer Trip | In-room Mini Bar Free Refills (once during stay): Perfect for a family summer vacation. Service: The service was great. I had a fall and asked the front desk for ice for a cold compress. Environment: Our room had a view of the 'Big Trousers' (CCTV Tower).

Changping Town/Shisanling Resort Beijing|40.96km from city center
The JW Marriott brand standards simply don't apply here. 'Schrödinger's Pillow' – A Play in Five Acts: Act I: The Standard Promise The bedside card, as per Marriott brand custom, listed an extensive pillow menu. As a regular guest, I had no reason to doubt it. Act II: The Informed Denial I called the front desk for service and subsequently experienced a 'triple denial' from the front desk, manager Bruce, and housekeeping. However, the core issue is this: Manager Bruce explicitly admitted during our conversation that he knew 'all Marriotts can provide different pillows,' but insisted they simply didn't have them here. This implies that the entire team, fully aware of brand standards, collectively and actively misled the guest. Act III: Arrogance The next day at 10:20 AM, the duty manager, Emma Qiu, arrived late. When confronted, she nonchalantly stated, 'It's only 20 minutes late.' Upon being informed that the complaint had been escalated to Marriott headquarters, she abruptly hung up with a dismissive 'We don't have any,' disappearing without a trace. Act IV: The Reversal After enlisting the help of Ctrip, 12315 (consumer protection hotline), and other parties, the plot took a dramatic turn: Manager Emma Qiu announced that silk pillows had been available all along! So, was the entire hotel team suffering from collective amnesia last night, or were they performing a piece of performance art where 'if we say it's not there, it's not there'? Final Act: The Cost The 'ticket price' for this grand show was 1010 yuan. For the curtain call, the hotel grudgingly refunded 30%, and Ctrip, unable to stand by, covered an additional 20% out of its own pocket. In the end, you pay 500 yuan to understand the true meaning of 'managerial chaos' and 'broken promises.' This experience wasn't ultimately about the pillows; it was about the complete breakdown of trust. When a hotel can systematically deceive its guests in such a way, how much truth is left in its promises of safety, hygiene, and service? Please consider my full experience carefully. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, choose wisely.

My first room had a spider – I looked up right before going to sleep and it was directly above my bed. I called the front desk, and they responded promptly, moving me to a different room and upgrading me to a suite. However, due to the hotel's old facilities, the windows weren't sealed properly. Since I moved in late at night, my first impression of the suite was how cold it was, I even thought the window might be open. The room was only 20 degrees Celsius. The suite was also much larger, and from 9:30 PM until 2:30 AM, even with the AC on full blast at 28 degrees, the temperature never went up; it stayed at 20.5 degrees. I was curled up in bed, but my face was freezing, LOL. The AC heating was useless; the temperature was nowhere near comfortable for sleeping. (Later, a male AC repairman with a terrible attitude came up, looking very impatient and completely unhelpful. The only useful information he provided was that the hotel's AC doesn't blow warm air until the official heating season – which is completely ridiculous, absurd, and darkly humorous. This repairman gets a huge thumbs down. The other two male staff members who helped me switch rooms had excellent attitudes.) I wanted to switch back to a queen room, but was told they were fully booked. I then wanted to check out and get a refund, but the manager said no because it was past midnight – how was I supposed to know the AC heating was just for show? I had showered and was huddled in bed, unable to sleep due to the cold, and only called the front desk when I couldn't take it anymore! That's why it was so late. Ultimately, I had to involve Trip.com for mediation. The afternoon of the day after I checked out, on my way home, they called and said they managed to get me a 50% refund, so Trip.com is reliable. The hotel's infrastructure, however, is terrible. I could also tell that the duty manager that day tried her best, and as women, our communication was smoother and more comfortable. She even came over to explain the refund situation when I was on the phone in the lobby. The manager's attitude was excellent; she showed empathy. But if the hardware isn't good, it's just not good. Switching to a few more rooms wouldn't change the fact that the temperature wouldn't go up. In the end, after all that hassle, I went online at 3 AM the next day, booked a Hanting hotel, and took a taxi there. I finally got a good, peaceful night's sleep. At Hanting, the room temperature was normal for sleeping as soon as I entered – the contrast was stark. So now I understand why so many people choose newer hotels, those opened in recent years, after experiencing this myself. This incredibly dramatic stay completely ruined my mood for exploring Beijing. I woke up after only four hours of sleep the next day and took the high-speed train home, haha. In any case, I will definitely be avoiding this place. I've given objective ratings for each module, but there's no way to sugarcoat this experience.

The rooms and service were decent, pretty standard. Given the price during this period, which was even higher than Atlantis Sanya and The Ritz-Carlton, the biggest flaw is that for a hotel that positions itself as family-friendly, shouldn't there be some leniency regarding charges for children? For example, the breakfast pricing. Many children today are tall; there are many five-year-olds who are already over 1.2 meters. Is it really fair to charge 99 RMB for breakfast just for being over 1.2 meters? Couldn't that be relaxed to an age-based system? Even a seven or eight-year-old wouldn't eat that much. Plus, when booking, there were only packages that included adult breakfast, no options to book breakfast for children together. The hotel's service and dining are otherwise quite good. However, dinner usually means dining within the hotel, and the quality of the food at the Chinese restaurant is truly underwhelming. It felt like most dishes were pre-made, and the prices were high. I ordered steamed spare ribs, and the moment I tasted them, it felt exactly like those vacuum-packed, shelf-stable meal kits that just need to be steamed. If you have no other choice and are driving, it's worth the trouble to go out and eat at restaurants a few kilometers away.

The room was very warm and the hotel design is great! The only minor issue was that the milk and soy milk at breakfast were a bit cold. They weren't kept in thermos containers, and Chinese stomachs generally prefer warmer breakfast drinks. Perhaps they could consider providing a separate thermos just for Chinese guests, it wouldn't be a huge investment. Foreigners seem fine with the current glass containers.

The facilities and environment were excellent, but the room amenities fell far short of expectations. The refrigerator wasn't cold, blood stains were found on pillows, the bedding was torn, and the bathroom door couldn't lock. That said, I'm immensely grateful to the hotel butler, Bradley, for his exceptional care. He provided 24/7 support for my family and me, promptly addressing every request—whether fixing malfunctioning phones, repairing all broken lights in the room, or other issues. His help extended beyond hotel duties: when we planned outings, he offered invaluable advice, practical tips, and essential reminders. Though these matters weren't his responsibility after we checked out, he meticulously arranged everything for us. Bradley truly went above and beyond.

During the Chinese New Year, I brought my family to stay here, and the experience wasn't great. This time, I decided to give it another shot, and the experience has significantly improved. From the front desk to the room service, everyone was quite professional, making up for a lot of the previous negative impression. We were presently surprised by the quality of the toothbrush provided in the room. See picture. Had not seen this quality even in hotels in many other developed countries. Upon checking into this hotel, I don't know why, but it smelled musty. Maybe it's just old. The first room I was given reeked of smoke. The second room was better, but had a very strong woody smell. The third room finally had no noticeable odor, but there was carpet cleaning happening right outside the door with white paper laid out, making it look quite messy. All in all, it was a very uncomfortable experience. The manager came and simply offered room changes, explaining that the hotel is a bit old and uses a lot of wood. By then, I had already switched rooms three times and was starving, so I didn't bother arguing further. The overall staff attitude was good, and the location was convenient for transportation. However, this hotel is simply terrible for anyone with sensitive skin, pharyngitis, or rhinitis. I broke out in hives that night and had to go to the emergency room for an injection. The next day, I immediately canceled all my plans and headed straight home. Furthermore, I suspect the hotel's air conditioning is also old; it made loud gasping noises after running for a while in the middle of the night. The soundproofing was also abysmal. Everyone, please be cautious.

Overall, I was very satisfied. Even without my ID, I could use electronic verification for check-in. And if you forget your charger, you can borrow one from the front desk. The front desk staff, especially the ladies, were incredibly nice, and every employee had a smile on their face. The physical facilities met expectations, but more importantly, the soft services were also excellent, making me feel truly valued as a guest. **Service:** The in-room dining was fantastic; the roasted duck and lychee shrimp balls were delicious! You can also order takeout, and a robot will deliver it. **Facilities:** The only minor issue was with ride-hailing. When setting the destination to the hotel lobby, the navigation consistently directed drivers to the exit gate. However, this gate is exit-only and cannot be entered. I'm not sure why ride-hailing apps would navigate this way, but every time I took a taxi, I couldn't be dropped off directly at the lobby entrance. I always had to walk in from the exit gate. I hope this can be improved.

Honestly, and without exaggeration, this was the worst hotel experience I've had among all the hotels I've stayed in. 1. The hotel is very large, and the lobby is grand and beautiful. There are staff members to help with luggage. I'm not sure of its star rating, but it has a swimming pool and a gym, and the location is good. 2. Now for the downsides: The breakfast quality is mediocre. The front desk for check-in is on the 3rd floor. Every time you want to go downstairs, you have to go to the 3rd floor to switch elevators, and then take another elevator or escalator down. The same goes for going up, you have to keep switching. This is quite inconvenient. Additionally, the laundry room charges for washing clothes, and it's a third-party service that closes at night, so it's not available 24/7. 3. I booked a king-size bed room for nearly 900 per night, and it was quite ordinary and not very spacious. There was no welcome fruit upon arrival. The mini-fridge only had one small bottle of Coke and one small bottle of Sprite, as shown in the picture. On the first day, I used the tea, but it wasn't refilled on the second day. I asked a staff member for another Coke and Sprite, thinking I'd drink them on the road, and I was incredibly surprised when they refused. The reason given was that since my previous drinks hadn't been used, they couldn't provide more. I booked for two nights, which essentially means I paid for two sets of amenities. Shouldn't two sets of amenities be configured identically? Two small bottles cost just a few yuan. Even a budget hotel wouldn't refuse something like that. It just makes the hotel seem stingy. Some staff members are snobby, arrogant, and impatient, even rolling their eyes. Just because they see a lot of foreigners, do they think they're rich? Do they look down on everyone? The experience was actually worse than staying at an Atour hotel.

Stayed at Jen Beijing by Shangri-La from 16-20 October 2025. If you want sleek, modern, and excellent location, this nails it. If you're after warm, personalized service, look elsewhere. The room was spotless and contemporary. Location is unbeatable, sitting right on top of an upscale mall. Daily fruit delivery was a lovely touch that showed someone's thinking about guests. The vibe is youthful and high-energy throughout the public spaces. Fair warning for introverts or anyone seeking a quieter luxury experience: the lobby is bright, colorful, with a full wall of screens and constant foot traffic from the mall below. The gym is a commercial one open to non-guests, so it's busier and less exclusive than typical hotel fitness centers. The rooms themselves are quiet and peaceful, a nice contrast to the lively common areas. But overall, staff interaction is minimal. You're essentially paying for excellent facilities and location, not personalized hospitality. No one greets you by name, remembers your preferences, or checks in on you. It's efficient and polished, but transactional. If you want attentive service where staff make you feel looked after, this isn't it. But if you prefer a stylish, self-sufficient base with great amenities and don't need much human contact, Jen Beijing delivers well. Four stars for what it is, just make sure it's what you're looking for.

Inconveniences: No disposable bath bags, toilet seat covers, or small toilets. Snacks in the mini-fridge weren't replenished promptly. Highly user-friendly (special shout-out for these points): Late check-out until 3 PM, which was great for my child's nap. The disposable dental kit included dental floss.

The ambiance was wonderful. Staying on the 27th floor offered fantastic city skyline views, which were especially beautiful at night. The service was excellent; I was particularly impressed that takeout deliveries are handled by an automated robot straight to your room. As for cleanliness, turndown service had already been completed by the time we returned to the room each evening, with water thoughtfully placed by the bedside – a very considerate touch. Upon check-in, we were also welcomed with complimentary fruits, desserts, and coconut water. The hotel is conveniently located right next to a subway station, making transportation incredibly easy. I would absolutely choose to stay at The Westin again if I have the chance.

I stayed away. I feel like there's a tatami mats in the cheeks, a toilet at the end of the long corridor. I remembered my grandmother's parents' house when I was young. The building is old, but it feels clean. The toilet has two private rooms, both of which are washlet type and beautiful. The bath is available for rental and is very large. However, it can only be used until 22:00 at night, so I thought it would be better if I could put it in the morning. I was healed by the old-fashioned space.

Beijing Map

Beijing's layout is commonly described in terms of its "ring roads," which circle the city. Although the First Ring Road (theoretically encircling the Forbidden City) does not exist, the city's ring roads start from the Second Ring Road. The area within the Third Ring Road is often considered the city proper, while the city center specifically refers to the region around Wangfujing Street, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square.

Beijing's city proper is administratively divided into four main districts:

  • Chaoyang District: Extends from the city center to the Olympic sites in the north.
  • Dongcheng District: Lies directly east of the Forbidden City.
  • Xicheng District: Located to the west of the Forbidden City.
  • Haidian District: Positioned in the north, housing many of Beijing's universities.

Best time to visit Beijing

Beijing Itinerary: Best time to visit Beijing

Source: from China Travel Guide

Beijing experiences a climate with 4 distinct seasons: a short and windy spring, a long and hot summer, a cool and brief autumn, and a long and chilly winter.

Seasonal Weather in Beijing

  • Spring (April - May): Spring in Beijing, from early April to the end of May, is characterized by warm but windy and dry conditions. Daytime temperatures can be comfortable, but nights are often cooler, necessitating lightweight layers such as long-sleeved shirts, T-shirts, and jackets. Sandstorms are a common occurrence, so it's advisable to carry windproof gear when venturing outside.
  • Summer (June - August): Summers in Beijing, from early June to August, are hot with significant rainfall. Temperatures frequently range between 30°C (86°F) and 40°C (104°F), especially in July and August, which are the hottest months. Short, intense rainstorms can occur unexpectedly in the afternoons, so carrying an umbrella or raincoat is recommended. Light clothing is essential to stay comfortable in the summer heat.
  • Autumn (September - October): Autumn is a brief but beautiful season in Beijing, spanning from mid-September to the end of October. The weather is mild with plenty of sunshine, making it one of the best times to visit. Temperatures are comfortable, and light layers like long-sleeved shirts and thin coats are suitable. Late October sees a sharp drop in temperatures, so warmer clothing becomes necessary.
  • Winter (November - March): Winter in Beijing is long, cold, and dry, lasting from early November to mid-March. Average temperatures during December, January, and February often fall below 0°C (32°F), with January being the coldest month. Visitors should dress in wool sweaters and thick down coats to stay warm. Despite the harsh weather, winter sports like skiing and ice skating are popular, and Chinese New Year celebrations offer a unique cultural experience.

While Beijing can be visited year-round, the best times to visit Beijing are typically September and October due to the pleasant autumn weather. May and June also provide comfortable early summer conditions, though it's important to be mindful of the occasional spring sandstorms and the extreme summer temperatures.
