What is Taiwan Lucky Draw 2026 at a Glance

What is Taiwan Lucky Draw 2026 at a Glance

Taiwan is paying repeat visitors to come back. Under a new Tourism Administration campaign called "Return to Taiwan, Double Your Luck" (重遊臺灣.福氣加倍), returning international travelers who win a weekly lucky draw receive NT$5,000 in travel credit — and if they bring one companion, that person gets NT$3,000 more, for a combined NT$8,000 (roughly US$250).

Registration opens October 1, 2026, and the scheme covers arrivals from October 10, 2026, through March 31, 2027. Entry is free, but you have to register in advance and you have to win — this is a lottery, not a guaranteed payout. Here is everything you need to know before the registration window opens.

The prize is not cash. It is stored-value travel credit that you spend like a prepaid card across Taiwan — convenience stores, metro and buses, supermarkets and partner merchants. The one-time airport lucky draw from the earlier "Taiwan the Lucky Land" campaign (NT$5,000 consumption gold) has ended; this new scheme replaces it for repeat visitors.

Who Qualifies for the Taiwan Lucky Draw 2026

Who Qualifies for the Taiwan Lucky Draw 2026

You need to tick every box:

  • Non-Taiwan passport. You must hold a non-ROC passport and enter Taiwan without a Taiwan residence permit. Hong Kong and Macau residents travel under their passport plus entry permit and qualify as non-ROC visitors.
  • You have been to Taiwan before. The core condition: you must have entered Taiwan at least once between January 1, 2023, and the day before you register.
  • Independent travel. The scheme is for individual travelers staying 3 to 90 days. Tour groups, and travelers on other Tourism Administration group-subsidy programs, are excluded.
  • Bringing a companion (optional). Each returning visitor may register one accompanying friend or family member. The companion wins NT$3,000 too, but must not have visited Taiwan since January 1, 2023, and your travel dates must overlap.

A practical reading: the campaign rewards people who already like Taiwan enough to return — the companion rule is what turns a two-person trip into a NT$8,000 trip.

How to Register and Join the Taiwan Lucky Draw

How to Register and Join the Taiwan Lucky Draw

The full process, combining the official announcement with local news reporting as of September 2026:

  1. Register online 7–90 days before you fly. Go to the official campaign site (5000.taiwan.net.tw) within 7 to 90 days of your scheduled arrival and submit your passport details, nationality, flight and travel dates, email address, and your companion's details if you are registering one.
  2. Wait for the weekly draw. Draws run automatically every Wednesday at 12:00 PM Taiwan time. If you win, a notification email with a verification link arrives at the address you registered with.
  3. Verify after landing. Winners are asked to complete an online verification — per official reporting, within 24 hours of arriving in Taiwan — including proof of your return ticket.
  4. Top up at 7-Eleven. Once verified you receive a redemption QR code. Take it, your passport, and your own EasyCard, iPASS or icash 2.0 to a 7-Eleven store in Taiwan, where the credit is loaded straight onto the card.

Fine print changes happen — the official registration page is the final authority on steps and windows. Check it before you submit.

What the NT$8,000 Travel Credit Can (and Cannot) Do

What the NT$8,000 Travel Credit Can (and Cannot) Do

What the NT$8,000 Travel Credit Can (and Cannot) Do

  • No cash, no change. The credit cannot be exchanged for cash or refunded, and you cannot get change back in cash.
  • Load it on transit cards. Supported cards are EasyCard (悠遊卡), iPASS (一卡通) and icash 2.0. If you do not own one, you can buy a card on the spot in Taiwan.
  • Separate cards per person. The returning visitor and the companion each need their own card — credit cannot be combined onto one card.
  • Spend it broadly. The credit works wherever the card works: convenience stores, metro/light rail, city buses and some trains, supermarkets, and participating shops and attractions.
  • Keep the card. The credit lives on the card, so hold onto it for the rest of your trip (and check the card's own stored-value rules if you plan to keep it for a future visit).
  • Watch the exclusions. Rewards do not stack with other government-subsidized travel packages, and per the campaign rules the special branded cards issued in the 2023–2025 "Taiwan the Lucky Land" edition are not accepted for loading this credit. Confirm the latest card guidance on the official site.

The draw is designed to spread visitors beyond Taipei, and the credit works anywhere your EasyCard or iPASS does — so the smartest use is to string two or three cities into one trip while transport stays discounted.

Taiwan Lucky Draw Destinations: Taipei and around

  • Taipei 101 Observatory — the 89th-floor view over the city is still the classic first stop. Book the e-ticket in advance ([TRIP PLACEHOLDER: Taipei 101 tickets]) — it usually costs less than the walk-up counter and skips the line.
  • National Palace Museum — one ticket buys a half-day of air-conditioned culture, and it is cheap to reach: MRT to Shilin, then a short city bus ride.
  • Tamsui Old Street and Jiufen — both are free and reachable by public transport: MRT to the end of the Tamsui-Xinyi line for Tamsui, or bus 1062 from Zhongxiao Fuxing for Jiufen. Day-trip them, eat local, spend almost nothing.
  • Shilin Night Market — Taipei's biggest food bazaar. The credit pays for fried chicken cutlets and stinky tofu stalls directly, since most night-market vendors accept the transit cards.

Taiwan Lucky Draw Destinations: Central and Southern Taiwan

  • Fengjia Night Market (Taichung) — the creative-food capital of Taiwan, and design hotels around it undercut Taipei prices noticeably.
  • Gaomei Wetland (Taichung) — one of Taiwan's best sunsets, free to visit: a boardwalk out past wind turbines into the mirror-flat evening tide.
  • Sun Moon Lake (Nantou) — the classic value move is the Taiwan Tour Bus "Sun Moon Lake pass," which bundles the shuttle from HSR Taichung, the lake cruise and cable-car discounts into one ticket.
  • Pier-2 Art Center (Kaohsiung) — free old port warehouses turned into installation art, murals and design markets, reachable on Taiwan's only at-grade light rail line.

The draw only runs from October 1, and only arrivals October 10 – March 31 qualify — so a trip in September 2026 does not count, and a trip in December does. Because winners are announced by email only after registration, do not book non-refundable flights purely on the assumption you will win. Instead:

  • Lock in flexible or low-cost flights early. Once the scheme opens, demand for the Oct–Dec window will climb.
  • Airline fare sales on Taiwan routes — with capacity back to normal, full-service and budget carriers have been rotating fare sales and occasional free-baggage bumps (an extra 5–10 kg in promo seasons). Watch your home-market routes rather than booking the first price you see.
  • Watch the rail-and-hotel extras. Trip.com has run a discount on Taiwan High Speed Rail e-tickets for short-stay foreign visitors, plus hotel and flight+hotel bundle savings — check whether the offers are live on the English site before you book.

I wonder if this "Foreign Tourist Only" offer isn't very well known? The fact that cancellations are free if you don't use it made it easy to use. *Once you've made a reservation on the Taiwan High Speed Rail website, you can change it free of charge only the first time. If you want to cancel the reservation itself, a cancellation fee will apply. The procedure is as follows: 1. Obtain a discount ticket (reservation number) 2. When reserving your desired high-speed rail train on the Taiwan High Speed Rail website, register the reservation number from step 1 3. Exchange for a physical ticket at the ticket counter before boarding Experience: I was worried that my desired time slot would be fully booked and I would have to change my travel dates, but because changes are possible once during the reservation stage, seats tend to become available, and I was able to confirm my reservation (step 2 above) when a seat became available for my desired date and time. Exchanging for a paper ticket at the ticket counter was also easy and there was no queue. Initially, I hesitated to use the high-speed rail because of the high price, but after learning about this discount, I decided to switch to traveling by high-speed rail. It was also great to experience the wonderfulness of the Taiwan High Speed Rail. The seats were wider and the interior was more spacious than on Japan's Shinkansen, and the ride was smoother with less vibration. Many people were riding without reserved seats, which made me realize just how popular it is.

This is the best way to travel within cities in Taiwan. The high speed rail network covers North to South, stop by cities along the way. The interval also short in between services. You are allowed to eat and drink inside the cabin. Do get your bento box before you board the train. The choices are limited on board, usually only snack and drinks. The seat is very comfy and there is allocated areas to store your big luggages. PA and signboard also in multiple languages

Important information for purchasing high-speed rail tickets and boarding! Your booked train will typically arrive 30 to 60 minutes later. Even if you arrive early on an early morning train with unreserved seating, you will be refused entry when scanning your QR code at the ticket gate and will not be able to exit the station. Ultimately, you must wait until your booked train arrives before you can exit the station. Please be aware of this.

  • Add an EasyCard or Taiwan travel eSIM to your cart so the credit has somewhere to land on day one.
  • Go beyond Taipei. The campaign sits inside Taiwan's broader push to spread visitors outside the capital — a NT$8,000 head start makes second-tier cities like Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung genuinely affordable to combine into one trip.
  • County and city perks — the national draw ended, but cities keep their own campaigns: Kaohsiung's "Fun Pass" bundles a one-day metro + light rail pass with Pier-2 attraction tickets and night-market vouchers, and eastern-Taiwan accommodation subsidies (per room, per night) return in some quarters for Hualien and Taitung stays. These change frequently, so check what is live for your travel dates.

Stacking order: book the flexible parts early (flights, THSR while the 15% is live), register for the draw 7–90 days out, then layer city passes and hotel deals on top. Win or not, the trip costs less than the sticker price.
