What is the Egypt Arrival Card, e-Visa & Visa on Arrival?
Historically, the Egypt arrival card was a yellow paper disembarkation form handed out on flights, which all foreign visitors had to complete before passport control. As of 2026, this paper system has been officially phased out nationwide under Egypt’s airport digital transformation program.
Instead of filling out a paper card, immigration officers now scan your passport and pull your travel details automatically through the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS). Travelers only need a valid entry authorization—either an electronic visa (e-Visa) applied for in advance or a Visa on Arrival (VoA) purchased at the airport bank counter—along with a valid passport to complete entry.
Note: A separate paper customs declaration form still exists for travelers carrying dutiable items or large amounts of cash, but it is not required for standard tourists with personal luggage.

Egypt offers two primary tourist visa options for eligible nationalities. Both grant a 30-day stay for single-entry visits.
e-Visa (Online)
The e-Visa is applied for and issued before departure via the official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg.
- Fee: USD 25 for single entry; USD 60 for multiple entry
- Processing time: 3–5 business days; apply at least 7–14 days before travel
- Validity: 90 days from date of issue
- Payment: Credit or debit card online
- Benefits: No queue at the airport, confirmed status before departure, no cash required
Visa on Arrival
Available at all major international airports (Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Luxor, Aswan) for eligible nationalities.
- Fee: USD 30 (cash only, effective March 2026); exact USD bills recommended as change may be limited
- Issued at: Dedicated bank counters before passport control
- Benefits: No advance application needed, ideal for last-minute travel
- Drawbacks: Queues during peak hours, requires exact cash, subject to on-site immigration discretion
Which is better?
For most travelers, the e-Visa is the recommended choice. It costs the same or less than visa on arrival, eliminates the need to carry exact cash, and lets you skip the visa purchase queue at the airport — a major time saver at busy terminals like Cairo. Visa on arrival remains a reliable backup for spontaneous trips or if you cannot complete the online application.

Before traveling to Egypt, ensure you have the following ready:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry, with at least one blank visa page
- Valid entry authorization: e-Visa, visa on arrival eligibility, or visa-free status according to your nationality
- Return or onward travel ticket — may be verified at check-in or randomly by immigration officers
- Proof of accommodation: Hotel booking confirmation with full physical address
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover the duration of your stay
- Customs declaration form if you are carrying cash or goods above the official thresholds
Do You Need to Fill Out an Egypt Arrival Card?
No. As of 2026, there is no arrival card (paper or online) to complete for immigration purposes when entering Egypt.
This applies to all international visitors, regardless of nationality or visa type — tourists, business travelers, and transit passengers entering the country all benefit from the paperless system. Cabin crew no longer distribute arrival forms on board, and there are no blank cards to fill out at the immigration hall.
When you do need to complete a form
A paper customs declaration is only required if you are:
- Carrying cash, traveler’s checks, or bearer negotiable instruments totaling more than USD 10,000 (or equivalent in other currencies)
- Carrying Egyptian pounds exceeding EGP 5,000
- Bringing in goods above personal duty-free allowances
- Transporting restricted items such as commercial goods, certain medications, firearms, or drones
Customs declaration forms are available at customs counters in the arrivals hall and may also be distributed on your flight if applicable.
Is Egypt Entry Fully Digital?
Entry to Egypt is partially digital — immigration paperwork has been eliminated, but most in-person border checks remain. Here is the breakdown:
Fully digital processes
- Immigration arrival record: No paper arrival card; data is retrieved via passport scan through the APIS system
- e-Visa application and approval: Completed entirely online via the official government portal, delivered by email
Still in-person / not fully digital
- Visa on arrival: Purchased in cash at airport bank counters, with a physical sticker affixed to your passport
- Passport control: All travelers must present a physical passport for stamping, fingerprinting, and facial photo capture
- Customs inspection: Baggage X-rays and random checks are conducted on site; paper declarations are required for dutiable items
- Random document verification: Officers may ask to see physical or digital copies of return tickets, hotel bookings, or proof of funds
- Automated e-gates: Available on a limited basis at Cairo Airport for pre-registered travelers; most tourists use staffed immigration counters

1. Follow International Arrivals signs
After disembarking, walk along the arrival corridor and follow the clearly marked International Arrivals / Passport Control signs. The route is well signposted in English and Arabic.
2. Purchase your visa (if arriving without one)
If you are getting a visa on arrival, go first to the National Bank of Egypt counters located before the immigration hall. Pay the USD 30 fee in cash and receive your visa sticker, which will be affixed to your passport.
If you already have an e-Visa, skip this step and proceed directly to passport control.
3. Clear immigration
Join the foreign visitors passport control queue. Hand over your physical passport (with visa sticker if applicable). The officer will scan your passport to pull your records, take your fingerprints and a digital photo, and stamp your entry. No arrival card is needed.
4. Collect your baggage
After immigration, proceed to the baggage claim hall. Check the information screens for your flight number and assigned carousel. Luggage trolleys are available free of charge.
5. Pass through customs
- Use the green channel if you have no dutiable goods and are carrying less than USD 10,000 in cash.
- Use the red channel if you have goods to declare, and submit a completed customs declaration form.
Random baggage scans and inspections may take place at either channel.
6. Exit to the public arrivals hall
Once cleared, you will enter the main arrivals area, where you will find taxi ranks, ride-hail pick-up points, SIM card counters, ATMs, and currency exchange offices.

Egyptian customs enforce standard duty-free allowances for personal effects. You must declare if you are carrying:
- Cash or bearer instruments with a total value exceeding USD 10,000 (or foreign currency equivalent)

The hotel's main draw is its safety and expansive grounds; the gardens on a hillside are a rare green oasis in Cairo's often dusty environment. Honestly, the stay was disappointing. The floors were not well maintained, and I found the bathroom to be in a very unpleasant condition. The shower tap was leaking, which made things worse.
The breakfast was also poor. The juices were not fresh, and everything that was offered tasted bland.
On top of that, the experience at the pool bar was frustrating. Every time we ordered something, the waiter kept coming back repeatedly to ask if we wanted to order again or to make us pay. During the two days we spent by the pool trying to relax and take a nap, we were constantly disturbed and woken up to be asked if we wanted anything.
The iron should also be replaced as it is in poor condition. It ruined a pair of beige trousers and a white shirt while I was ironing.
We only stayed for two nights and did not want to be difficult guests, but in hindsight we should have raised these issues, especially considering this is a 5-star hotel and we paid for that level of service.

I’ve stayed at St. Regis hotels in many countries, but this one is hands down the worst. It might just be that the general hospitality quality in Egypt is lower.
Photos don't lie: Upon entering the room, I found a piece of used soap left in the shower. This is absolutely unacceptable for a luxury brand.
Terrible service: The female chef at the egg station during breakfast was extremely rude—I’ve never experienced such an attitude at any hotel before. I reported this to a manager before leaving the restaurant, but there was no follow-up whatsoever.
Unprofessional staff: Compared to other St. Regis properties, the staff here lack basic politeness. The Concierge was particularly unhelpful and provided inaccurate information. They recommended the hotel's Egyptian restaurant but failed to mention it only had outdoor seating. It was freezing cold, and there was no indoor option. After being sent back and forth between floors and being told the restaurant wasn't even open yet, we were finally tucked away in a buffet corner to eat. I had very bad experience in this hotel and will never stay in the future again. I booked for double room however when I came and checked in and went up to the room , I was surprised that the room has two single beds . Called the reception and informed him but he said that the tour operator did not inform them that I have double occupancy and needs king size bed . They did not have king size bed available so we stayed in this room however , the AC was so noisy to the extend that you can not hear each other when you talk inside the room . I asked them to change the room and they gave me another one but the AC was also extremely loud - I understood after asking few questions that almost all rooms in the hotel are having loud noisy sound .
Next day they changed my room to double room with king size bed and I told them clearly that I need a room with good AC . I moved to the room and I was shocked that the the sound was fine but the AC was not cooling , the temperature in the room was not going below 26 degree. I told the recipient to send the engineering team and they tried to fix it but the problem was the same . No one did any courtesy call to check and I did not tell the Front office team about the problem as I lost all hopes that they will fix it . Stuff are generally not smiling , FO team are very dry and arrogant except for Mostapha , FB team are not smiling at all and they have stiff body language except for one lady in the lobby coffee who is very so cheerful ( morning duty )Muhammad and Amir from the sport bar are amazing and true hoteliers - they know how to talk to guests and they are very pleasant and always smiling - they are really professional. Muhammad from bell desk is just amazing and nice person . Yousef from laundry is a true hotelier who went extra mile and beyond his scope of work when he had to stay late after the closing hours of the laundry when I called him at 9:55pm asking him that I need one shirt urgent to be pressed as all my shirts are wrinkled in the bag. He helped me to do it and had to stay late - he should be eligible for employee of the month . I am not able to write many details here but I did not have a pleasant experience. Very important point that the feeling that you get to once you enter the hotel from the main entrance of the street that you are entering a military base from the amount of security level they have which I am fine with it but what I do not accept that when I came with uber and it happened few times - those security officers stopping the cars do not have the right to waste the time of the guests when we have to listen to thier personal stories after stoping the car and the guest inside it - it’s absolutely un acceptable and does not reflect a professional image for the hotel - those security officers must be trained to make sure that when uber car or any car enters the hotel with the guest , they should inspect the car and take copies of the drivers licenses instantly and swiftly - not to keep the car waiting for long time until they finish their story . This is irrespecful for the timing and we should pay a good attention to timing and train our staff how to respect it.

1) Came for check in at 5 pm but still room was not ready. The reason given was I did not mention smoking or non-smoking room.
2) The bathroom floor was extremely old style and very dirty.
3) The bath tub had foldable glass doors which never closed completely and water fell on the floor everytime had a bath.
4) Therebwere totally 4 table/bedside lamps. 1 was blinking and the other 2 bedside lamps had a switch which only the hotel employees could switch on and off

This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at in Egypt! Even the cars entering the hotel grounds are checked by staff and sniffer dogs, which made me feel incredibly safe. The hot water for showering was plentiful and the water pressure was excellent! That's really important, and the room was very clean.

However, the bathroom was clogged, and despite reporting it for days, nothing was done. The location is great. The Zamalek area is a super beautiful place! The Nile is wonderful. I really enjoyed it. The hotel's overall condition is good, even though it's only a 3-star. A gem of a small boutique hotel in a great location & good area.
Rooms are unique & although the building old the bathroom modern & the beds very comfortable.
Great service & very attentive & helpful staff.
There are several restaurants within the hotel, offering a diverse option of cuisines.
Breakfast is served in the Carlos restaurant & excellent.
My only criticism, after enjoying one cocktail & making the decision to come back & eat later, they charged all of the service & local taxes but worse a cover charge. This small incident left me a bit annoyed & needless to say, I didn't go back to eat.

I had a fantastic experience during my stay. The hotel is in a great location close to many attractions, restaurants, and shops. The entrance is elegant and gives a very good first impression. The staff were friendly, professional, and always willing to help with any request.
The room was spotless, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was modern with plenty of hot water. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout my stay, and the soundproofing made the room quiet despite being in the city center. 1. The location is good, within walking distance to the Egyptian Museum, subway, and kazaz, which is a 1.3km walk from gobus tahir station, which is very downtown.
2. The hotel has an elevator, which is very rare. I have stayed in a nearby hotel which is also located in an old house. There is no elevator and I need to carry my luggage. The elevator is not big enough to accommodate about 4 people (without luggage), but it is much better than climbing stairs by yourself.
3. There is one triple room and one double room. The triple room is quite spacious and the standard room is not large enough.
4. There is no hot water kettle or hair dryer in the room, you can ask for it at the front desk, but the number of these two items in the entire hotel is limited, so I waited for a long time...
5. It’s more cost-effective to pay in US dollars than in Egyptian pounds. The exchange rate for paying Egyptian pounds is not so good.
6. Breakfast starts at 8:00. If you want to go to the Black and White Desert, the driver usually picks up at 7:30.
