How to Take the KL MRT

How to Take the KL MRT

This simple, tourist-friendly guide ensures a smooth ride on the KL MRT:

  1. Plan Your Route: Use the official KL MRT map to confirm your origin and destination stations, interchange points (if any), and estimated fare.
  2. Prepare Your Payment Method: Purchase a single journey token from self-service ticketing machines (select your destination station to see the total fare) or use a pre-purchased/top-up Touch 'n Go card.
  3. Enter the Fare Gates: Tap your Touch 'n Go card or single journey token once on the contactless reader at the entry gate. Keep your token safe – you will need it to exit.
  4. Board the Train: Follow platform signs to the correct boarding area for your line and travel direction. Wait behind the yellow safety line, and let alighting passengers exit first before boarding.
  5. Ride & Transfer (If Needed): Listen to on-board audio announcements and check on-board screens for upcoming stations. For transfers between MRT lines or to LRT/monorail services, follow the "Interchange" signs – you do not need to exit the fare gates or buy a new ticket for integrated rail transfers.
  6. Exit the Station: At your destination station, tap your Touch 'n Go card on the exit gate reader, or insert your single journey token into the gate’s token slot to open the barrier and exit.

Ended up staying at this hotel by chance, and I must say, it was a really good experience. The only minor downside was that it was on a very high floor. The stay itself, including the breakfast, was fantastic and very substantial. The staff did an excellent job cleaning the room. Plus, it's only about 500 meters from the Petronas Towers. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied.

Booked a two-night, one-bedroom twin apartment for 800+ (yuan, presumably), and got a free upgrade to a premier suite! My son was so thrilled he said it was the best hotel of his life. Check-in and check-out were super smooth, even for someone like me with limited English. The breakfast had a great variety, and I even tried a yogurt that made me question everything (maybe it wasn't yogurt after all!) – but overall, it exceeded my expectations! If I ever do a deep dive into Kuala Lumpur again, I'll definitely choose this place. P.S. The hotel's location is excellent, but even that can't escape Kuala Lumpur's crazy traffic. Sigh.

I had a wonderful stay at The Face Suites. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a beautiful city view. It felt more like staying in a luxury apartment than a hotel, which was perfect for relaxing. The location is excellent, very convenient and close to many attractions. The highlight of the stay was definitely the rooftop infinity pool — the view is stunning, especially at night. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the check-in process was smooth. Overall, it was great value for money, and I truly enjoyed my stay. I would definitely recommend The Face Suites and would love to stay here again.

Traveling to Kuala Lumpur for Chinese New Year, I saw a lot of good reviews on Trip.com and booked a 4-night stay. On the very first day, there was a power outage. I woke up at 3 AM because of the heat. The next day, after being out all day, I returned to a completely dark hotel lobby – no electricity. My room had power, but no hot water. After a long day of sightseeing, I couldn't shower. I was too tired, so I just went to sleep, and finally had hot water in the morning. On the third day, I came back again to no hot water. When I asked the front desk, they said it would be an hour until it came back on. I was so annoyed and hung up. Luckily, Trip.com's international team was constantly helping me communicate. Thankfully, it didn't completely ruin my trip, but it did make the vacation a bit unpleasant. Trip.com told me they'd never encountered this situation before, but it definitely happened to me.

Second stay at PARKROYAL COLLECTION and still impressed This was my second time staying at PARKROYAL COLLECTION. Initially, there was an issue with the first room I was assigned, as the bathroom window did not have fully covered blinds, which raised privacy concerns. After I informed the front desk, they listened attentively and changed my room immediately. I truly appreciate their prompt response and hospitality in addressing the matter so efficiently. Grateful for the excellent service and care shown during my stay.

The location of the hotel is really nice and convenient. There is a beautiful park nearby where you can relax, take a walk, or just enjoy some fresh air. The fountain located right behind the hotel also adds a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere to the surroundings. It makes the place feel calm and enjoyable, especially in the evenings. On top of that, the service provided by the staff is very good — they are helpful, friendly, and make sure guests feel comfortable during their stay. Overall, it’s a great place with a good location, nice views, and satisfying service 👍

This place is actually pretty good. The air conditioning is amazing, unlike the terrible AC units everywhere else, oh my god, it's just indescribable how bad those are. The service here is also quite good, right? Just make sure to double-lock your door because people do come into the room to clean.

The service was good. However, it was a pretty old hotel, and many of the fixtures were showing signs of wear and tear. A point to note: it stated that to protect the environment, they would only do house cleaning every 3 days. Due to this, I did not secure my belongings properly, and when I returned from outside, my room had been cleaned. This needs to be communicated to the user clearly to prevent any misunderstanding.

I had a wonderful stay at Pullman Kuala Lumpur, and the experience exceeded my expectations. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its convenient access to Pavilion Mall via a covered bridge crossing at Banyan Tree. It’s just a short walk from the hotel and makes getting to the mall extremely easy while avoiding the terrible traffic jams in the area. Getting a Grab was also very easy when heading further out, as the hotel is not located right in the middle of the main traffic congestion where vehicles can be stuck for hours just to travel a short distance. All the staff were well-groomed, friendly, and professional, and they consistently went the extra mile to provide excellent service to their guests. The breakfast spread was amazing. During our four-day stay, we enjoyed a wide variety of delicious dishes prepared by the chefs. We were also fortunate to be selected as Guest of the Day, which gave us access to the lounge. The lounge experience was fantastic, with à la carte breakfast, tea breaks, and cocktails served daily. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The housekeeping team did an excellent job keeping everything tidy, with drinks thoughtfully topped up. I especially loved the room lighting and the sound system — the bass really added to the ambiance and made the stay even more enjoyable. What truly touched me was the hotel’s attention to detail. They noted that this was my birthday trip and surprised me with a cake and balloons. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made my stay incredibly special and memorable. I would strongly recommend Pullman Kuala Lumpur to anyone looking for a cosy, relaxing stay in KL. It truly made my trip worthwhile and unforgettable. Thank you, Pullman, for such a memorable experience.

Is this really a 5-star hotel? The room wasn't that big, but the bathroom was quite spacious, which was okay. They don't provide bottled mineral water; instead, they offer filtered water in glass bottles with two glasses. If you want more, it's 28 MYR per bottle. The kettle was well hidden; I didn't even notice it at first. There are no bathrobes, so to go to the 11th-floor pool, you have to just wrap yourself in a bath towel. The breakfast looked like it had a lot of choices, but not many options for a traditional Chinese palate. The pool isn't very big and is quite shallow; the deepest part is only 1.2 meters. It's open from 7 AM to 8 PM, and you can see the Petronas Twin Towers from there. The hotel is connected to a mall, accessible from both the first and fourth floors.

Room was spacious and clean, with basic hotel amenities provided. Excellent shower pressure with 3 towels provided for each guest (body, face and hand). Some degree of wear can be seen on certain furnishings and sound proofing may not be the best (can hear next door shower sounds clearly and corridor chatters can be quite audible). Gym is equipped with new technogym body analysis machine and all gym equipments appears new and well maintained. Buffet breakfast was basic, nothing to shout about although one can certainly fill their tummy without issues here.

Sri Hartamas Kuala Lumpur|6.19km from city center
Dorset Hartamas – First Time & Definitely Last Seriously… Dorset Hartamas with THIS quality? This is my first time staying here, and honestly, the experience was worse than expected. The only thing worth praising is the continental breakfast — and that says a lot. 🛎 Service & Attitude: EMBARRASSING When I wanted to extend my stay from Day 1, someone just dropped the key without any explanation. I was standing there with TWO luggages, clearly struggling — ❌ No bellboy assistance ❌ No offer to help ❌ Just stared at me like I was invisible For a hotel, this is shameful hospitality. Staff were unfriendly, uninterested, and poorly trained. 🍽 Room Service: INSANE PRICING, LOW QUALITY Room service food felt like GrabFood standard, if not worse. RM44 for THIS? Paper box, soggy presentation, and taste that doesn’t match the price at all. Completely not worth the money. 🚿 Shower: SEE THE PHOTO The shower situation speaks for itself. Weak water pressure, outdated setup — definitely not hotel-standard comfort. You expect guests to pay premium prices for this? 🍳 Breakfast (The Only Win) Credit where it’s due — breakfast was actually very good. Many choices, tasty, and easy on the stomach. Sadly, this is the ONLY positive thing about the stay. Overall, this hotel is saved by breakfast only. Everything else — service, attitude, room service quality, and basic hospitality — FAILED. For the price paid, this experience is unacceptable. Definitely not recommended, and I won’t be returning.

Everything you'd expect from JWMarriot. The people standout- spontaneous smiles & greetings abound. The rooms are comfortable but have seen better days. You'd have to peer closer to notice, so on the surface is still very acceptable. The toilets have rain showers and amenities one would expect. The bar is equipped with a mini fridge & the usual selection of teas and Nespresso. The TV is large & modern but the cable channels are somewhat spartan with only a smattering of international channels. There is Chromecast available with the Samsung TVs. The beds are comfortable, on the stiffer side so good for bad backs & the pillows are fluffy and soft. There's a spa & sauna, a 24 hr gym & a rather dated but functional & large swimming pool. The breakfasts are typical of a reputable Asian hotel- local fare mixed with more traditional Continental food selections.

First of all,the location of the hotel is very convenient,it takes me less than 25 minutes from SB airport after a late flight arriving around 10 pm.Hotel lobby, room, restaurant and swimming pool are all very clean and tidy.We had a very relaxing breakfast with various selections of fresh breads fruits salads and juice, also it's interesting to taste Malaysian local food,Indian food, Japanese soup and Chinese noodles all in one buffet. The staff are very kind in helping me to get a taxi when i had trouble downloading Grab and exchanging local money.Morning swimming in crystal clear water and bright sunshine is such a relaxing moment for me as well. When we leave for downtown we saw a nice golf course by the hotel, nice veiw.We will book again next time definitely.

Room is clean & tidy. Room fan is powerful. Good to have ceiling fans. 2 sets of plates, bowls, cups, forks & spoons. 2 bath towels , shower gel & shampoo provided but no other amenities. However , lift lobby has a kinda very unpleasant smell. Pains our noses. Ard 20mins walk to jalan alor. There are convenient shops & food stalls nearby. Hope the management will do something with the lobby smell.

Our short stay at the hotel suddenly turned into an unexpected satisfaction. Before booking this accommodation I read many positive comments, words of appreciation, recommendations, and must say the truth we were not disappointed. Even more, this simple hotel gave us a feeling of home, cosy warm home. Firstly, it’s welcome hospitality and friendly attitude, same like we come to see our old friend at his place😊. Secondly, the room is not huge, but very got all you need including peace of mind. Thirdly, the location is perfect, any direction you go you’ll enjoy your time on the road , walking or transiting. The hotel is definitely worth it’s value and for couples is a great place to stay and explore the capital👍👍👍

I booked the Sky Suite for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day quite a while in advance. The room was spacious, and both the bedroom and living room offered views of the Petronas Towers. However, the room windows were quite dirty, which made photos turn out poorly. The cleanliness was excellent, and there was plenty of bottled water in the room. We received welcome fruit, but it wasn't provided daily. If the hotel were more thoughtful, they could have offered something like sweet soup on subsequent days, as we couldn't finish the fruit. The room rate was quite high; at 6,000 a day, it felt a bit overpriced. We stayed for three consecutive days and didn't even receive a souvenir. The essential oil in the room smelled nice, and I particularly liked the scent of the essential oil in the hallway. Here are a few areas that need improvement: 1. The air conditioning was too cold and couldn't be adjusted above 24 degrees Celsius. 2. The faucet in the sink had no buffer, so water would splash all over you as soon as you turned it on. 3. The main bathroom light was linked to the exhaust fan, which was incredibly loud. Any time you needed more light, the exhaust fan would also turn on, creating a lot of noise. 4. Room soundproofing was poor; we could hear noise from both the hallway and the bar upstairs. 5. The duvet was too thin, and because the air conditioning was so cold, we froze at night. The swimming pool was nice, but there was only one changing room. I'd recommend changing in your room before going for a swim. The rooftop bar charged 1200 MYR for two people on New Year's Eve, and the fireworks were terrible. Overall, this hotel offers very poor value for money.

I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the area, and I absolutely love it! The convenience of having a parking space right next to the hotel for just RM12 per day is fantastic. The only minor downside was a slightly musty smell in the room, but it was manageable. The shower pressure could be a bit stronger, but everything else was quite convenient. I would definitely consider staying here again, especially since my dad really values convenient parking! Please note that the ironing facilities are shared, and the iron may not get very hot. Additionally, the toiletries provided are quite basic, so remember to bring your own toothpaste and toothbrush.

FAQs about KL MRT

  • What’s the difference between KL MRT and LRT?

MRT is a high-capacity, long-distance mass rapid transit system with fewer stops, faster speeds, and coverage across the wider Klang Valley (including Putrajaya). LRT is a light rail system with shorter routes, more frequent stops, and focus on inner KL and nearby suburban neighbourhoods.
  • Can I pay for KL MRT rides with a credit/debit card?

You can use a debit/credit card to purchase single journey tokens at self-service ticketing machines. Direct tap-to-pay with bank cards on fare gates is not widely available for the KL MRT; Touch 'n Go cards or single journey tokens are the primary payment methods.
  • Does the KL MRT go directly to KLIA/KLIA2 airport?

No, the KL MRT network does not have a direct station at KLIA or klia2. The fastest way to reach the airport is via the KLIA Express from KL Sentral (accessible via the Kajang Line’s Muzium Negara station).
  • Are there luggage restrictions on the KL MRT?

There are no strict size/weight limits for tourist luggage, but you must ensure your bags do not block aisles, doors, or other passengers. Oversized cargo is prohibited.
  • Can I transfer between MRT lines and other rail services without a new ticket?

Yes. For integrated transfers between MRT lines, LRT, and monorail, you do not need to exit the fare gates or buy a new ticket. Your fare will be calculated based on the total journey distance when you exit at your final destination.
  • What is the cheapest way to ride the KL MRT as a tourist?

For a single trip, a single journey token is the simplest option. For multi-day trips with multiple rides, a Touch 'n Go card is more convenient and offers a small fare discount.
