Meituan is a "super app" in China, where you can handle dozens of daily tasks in one place. Here's how it makes life easier:

Food delivery: When you want to have noodles, bubble milk tea or a late-night snack, Meituan can directly deliver the food to the hotel where you are staying. Most express deliveries arrive within 30 to 45 minutes.
Save money when dining at a restaurant: Get discount coupons for dishes like hot pot, dim sum or barbecue. Pay in the app, show the code at the restaurant and enjoy your meal for less money.
Booking a taxi or renting a bicycle: In many cities, Meituan offers ride-hailing services, so this is another option besides apps like Didi or regular taxis. You can also rent shared bikes through it.
local services: If you need a massage, a haircut or even laundry during your trip, Meituan enables you to easily book these services at local prices.
Order groceries to your place: If you are going to stay in one place for a long time, you can have fresh fruits, snacks or drinks delivered to your place.

How to Change Language in Meituan App (or Use Translation)

How to Download and Set Up Meituan App

1. Download the App

iPhone: Change your App Store region to China (if needed), then search “美团” (Meituan).
Android: Use a trusted app store or APK site (make sure it’s safe).

2. Register an Account

Open the app and tap “我的” (My) → “点击登录” (Click to Login).
Enter a foreign phone number to get a verification code via SMS.

3. Set Your Location

Type or pin your city and address (e.g., your hotel’s name/address). If you don’t know Chinese, copy-paste the address from Google Maps (in Chinese) or ask your hotel for the Chinese address.

4. Link a Payment Method

Meituan uses WeChat Pay or Alipay. First, link your foreign credit card to WeChat/Alipay, then connect to Meituan. Payments will be automatic after that.

How to Use Meituan for Food Delivery

Getting food delivered on Meituan is easy with my steps below.

Open the Food Delivery Section Look for the “外卖” (Takeaway) icon on the main screen—this is usually the first icon you see. Click it to access all the nearby takeout restaurants.
Find the Food You Want You can browse the list of nearby restaurants or enter the specific food you want to eat (such as "pizza" or "noodles"). To have the best experience, stick to places with high yellow star ratings and delivery times within 45 minutes - this means fresher food and faster service.
Check Important Details Before picking a restaurant, can mainly look at 2 things:

Delivery fee: Most places charge ¥3 to ¥6 for delivery.
Minimum order amount: You need to pay a certain amount of money to get the door-to-door delivery service, but it's very easy to do - just add a drink to your main course.

For each dish you want, click 选规格"Select Options" to choose the spice level or portion. Once you have added everything to the shopping cart, be sure to check carefully to avoid mistakes. Then click "Continue Checkout". If you need to leave a note - such as "Don't eat spicy food" for the kitchen or "Leave it at the hotel front desk" for the driver - write it here.
Pay and track your order. Use wechat Pay or Alipay for payment. Once your payment is approved, you will be confirmed. Then you can see the driver's progress on the map, so you can accurately see when they will bring your food.
When the driver arrives at your location, they might call you. If you don't speak Chinese, ask your hotel staff to answer the phone for you or send a short message to the driver, such as "I'm in the lobby", to let them know where they can find you.

It felt like stepping back into the 1930s. All the facilities, though vintage, were fully functional. My room was near the elevator, but a screen cleverly shielded the entrance, so it wasn't directly facing it. The elevators were fast and plentiful, preventing any congestion during peak hours. The room was well-stocked with amenities, and I appreciated all the thoughtful little details. Breakfast was incredibly generous; I especially loved the Japanese breakfast with soba, sushi, and onsen eggs, though there were plenty of other options too. The rooftop cafe offered a panoramic view of the garden, but unfortunately, I missed out on the afternoon tea set that day, which was a real shame. The food in the banquet hall was also incredibly rich and varied. It really feels like you get to enjoy good food in these kind of old-money hotels.

My friend was only staying in Shanghai for a day, so naturally, I wanted to give her an itinerary that offered both 'old-world charm and new-age chic.' While passing Nanjing West Road recently, this InterContinental 'Luxury Collection' hotel immediately caught my eye. And just as I expected, critical as she is, she complimented my taste the moment she walked in. Its most appealing features are its convenient location and its ability to be a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle: step outside, and you're on the vibrant Nanjing Road; turn around, and you're in the quiet serenity of a residential area. My friend said the elevator decor instantly made her feel like she'd 'traveled through time,' and that unique 'Haitian style' evoked long-lost memories of Shanghai. She had originally come to sightsee but happily spent most of her day lingering at the hotel. What she loved most were the terrace and the restaurant. On a summer evening, the breeze felt just like those childhood nights spent cooling off in the alleyways – she used to live in a Shikumen house. She remarked, 'If only I could lie in a wicker chair, fan myself with a palm-leaf fan, eat watermelon, and watch an outdoor movie, that would be truly divine.' She also adored the red hanging ornament in the lobby; it was vibrantly bright, yet its glass texture gave it a lively feel, much like Shanghai's character – passionate yet steady, with a touch of lightness within its composure. The food did not disappoint either. I pushed her to try the Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant, where the owner asked in Shanghainese, 'Mi dao ai hao fa?' (Is the taste good?), and she smiled and replied, 'Authentic,' instantly tearing up. She specifically bought the sweet variety of butterfly pastries from the International Hotel – saying 'only sweet is truly Shanghai.' Her only regret was: having stayed in too many foreign-style grand hotels, this time, with Shanghai elements everywhere and Shanghai flavors in every bite, it was 'just missing the sound of Shanghai.' Perhaps the cicada chirps in the alleyways and the hawkers' cries from the Shikumen are the hometown sounds she truly yearns to hear. However, she has already declared: the next time she returns, this will be her chosen hotel, and she plans to visit all the routes I arranged. I believe the charm of Shanghai has never been in its superficial glamour but in its ability to always find the most fitting way to blend East and West, ancient and modern, living as a unique 'Haipai' (Shanghai style). This is also the root that every Shanghainese person cherishes. Below are the three half-day itinerary options I created for her, which I've also compiled here, hoping they might help someone else: Option 1 · A Stroll Through Old Shanghai Charm Start from the hotel's main entrance on Fengyang Road and turn into Huanghe Road. The Changjiang Building and Changjiang Theater were the last residences of Eileen Chang; Huanghe Road is the origin of 'Blossoms Shanghai' (Fan Hua). The International Hotel is where her mother and aunt once stayed; next to it, the Sports Museum is rumored to be where Eileen Chang used to study. Diagonally opposite is the History Museum (formerly the Racecourse); the East Wing houses the old bronze lions from the HSBC Building on the Bund, and the 'Echoes of Shanghai' exhibition in the West Wing happens to talk about the past of Fengyang Road. The ornate windows of the West Wing and the Changjiang Building, mirroring the hotel's architecture, perfectly showcase the most fashionable Art Deco style of the 1930s. Option 2 · Tracing Red Memories Walk along Chengdu North Road to the Secretariat of the China Labor Movement, to see how Shanghai workers united into a revolutionary force; then visit the former site of the Songpu Special Committee. Go to the Sihang Warehouse to hear the echoes of the Battle of Shanghai and see the bullet-riddled walls recount the tragedy of that year. At night, turn into Xiang Kang Li on Xinchang Road to find the former site of the CCP Central Committee's secret printing press; on Nanjing West Road, there is also the former site of the Soviet Liaison Office, where, amidst the flickering lights, memories of the past reside. Option 3 · Modern and Retro Collision The LV 'Big Boat' on Nanjing West Road is currently a popular spot for photos; after visiting, turn into Wujiang Road for shopping and dining, and further ahead is Zhangyuan Shikumen – where new trends emerge in old alleyways, perfect for capturing stunning photos. Food Tips · The hotel restaurant's afternoon tea set is exquisite and picture-perfect. · Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant (the owner's Shanghainese is a living signboard). · Deda Western Restaurant and Gongdelin Noodle Restaurant, each with its own charm. · Donghai Small Restaurant (authentic Ningbo cuisine). · Chongming cuisine on the second floor of the hotel, authentic local flavors. · International Hotel butterfly pastries, remember to choose the sweet ones. Though the day was short, the essence of Shanghai will give her much to savor. When she returns next time, we'll continue our journey.

We stayed on the 10th floor, and the housekeeping staff up there were extremely diligent, responsible, and hospitable. We were very happy with the customer service at The Westin Bund Hotel. All the staff we spoke to were very helpful, friendly and able to speak English, which made our stay very easy and comfortable. Our room was a little hot and the air conditioning was not working properly. We contacted the hotel and they immediately sent staff to check the issue. One of the staff members even came with a thermometer to check the room temperature. They also sent a fan within a few minutes to make us more comfortable. In the end, they offered to move us to another room. The service was truly above and beyond. They took our concern seriously and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. This is exactly what you expect from a 5-star hotel. The gym is quite big and has a good range of equipment. The swimming pool is also nice and has lifeguards on duty. The hotel is in a good location and easy to get around. Breakfast was also very good, with a good selection of Chinese and Westin options, as well as a few Japanese and Indian dishes. There is also a small convenience store next door where you can buy snacks, drinks and other basic items, which was very convenient. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.

Decent stay, but several misses for a 5-star property My stay at the Pullman Shanghai Central was a mixed bag—nice in some areas, but disappointing in others. Check-in: The staff were very friendly and welcoming on our first day. However, I was surprised that they wouldn't let me check in until 3:00 PM. At most other hotels, I'm usually able to get an early check-in (even if I arrive at noon), so this felt a bit rigid for a property of this level. The Room: The room itself was comfortable—the bed was soft and the shower pressure was actually perfect (not too strong, not too weak, just right). Unfortunately, the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke upon arrival. To their credit, when I called the front desk, they immediately offered to change my room, which was very professional of them. Breakfast: This was the biggest letdown. The breakfast buffet felt more like what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel rather than a 5-star Pullman. The quality and selection just weren't there for me. Overall: It was an okay stay—nothing terrible, but nothing exceptional either. I wouldn't rate it a 10/10, more like a solid 6. Good service from the staff, but the check-in policy, smoke issue, and food really held it back.

Wonderful service by all the staff from the front office, to the bellman and even the cleaners are super nice. We were travelling with my disabled brother and they made sure we were comfortable. We were offered an upgrade to the horizon club room for a great price which was definitely worth it as the rooms had nicer views and comes with breakfast (with halal options), afternoon tea and also evening refreshments. They also arranged for our kids birthday in the room! Special thanks to Elaine at the front office for arranging late checkout for us since our flight is late at night, as well as Kenny at the horizon club for attending to us and ensuring we had a smooth check out. I specially chose this hotel I'd been dreaming of to celebrate my birthday. Initially, I booked a room facing just the waterfall, but upon arrival, I decided to change rooms. Xiaotong at the front desk enthusiastically introduced Room 1521 to us—a duplex where the lower level is underwater and the upper level is above water. It kept the waterfall view while also letting us share the space with plenty of fish. We were extremely satisfied! The hotel provided a complimentary fruit basket and pastries, plus a birthday cake, and thoughtfully set up a celebratory birthday atmosphere. They even thoughtfully surprised us with longevity noodles while we were having dinner at the executive lounge—it was one pleasant surprise after another. The breakfast on the second day was extensive and of great quality. When we left some belongings behind at the hotel, the front desk proactively called to remind us and even had SF Express courier them to our home. I was truly touched.

The location is a bit tricky to find, so it's recommended to follow the photo guide on Trip.com: head to the second-floor terrace via the escalator near the shopping mall's parking lot exit and follow the signs. The accommodation experience is also very fresh and modern. You can walk straight down the road outside right to Korea Town, which is super convenient. The 2-meter king-size bed is ultra-comfortable and spacious enough for a family of three, so you don't have to worry about a child falling off the bed.

1. Book a Taxi (Ride-Hailing)

Open the ride area: Find the "打车" icon (which looks like a car), and then click on it.
Set your location: The application may automatically detect your location (your pick-up point), but you can adjust it by fixing the map. If you don't understand Chinese, you can copy and paste the address from Google Maps or your hotel confirmation.
Choose the type of car: Standard cars are suitable for most people, but you can choose "Comfort" because it has more space, or if you have luggage, you can choose a larger car.
Confirmation and tracking: You will see the estimated fare and the time you need to wait for the driver. Click to confirm your reservation. Then, based on the driver's location on the map - you will know exactly when they will arrive.
Communicating with the driver: If the driver calls you and you don't speak Chinese, ask your hotel staff for help or send a simple message, such as "在这接我", to confirm your location.

2. Rent a Shared Bike

Find the bicycle section: Look for the "Shared Bike" icon (which looks like a bicycle), and then click on it.
Unlock: Scan the QR code on the bike with the Meituan app to unlock it.
Cycling and parking: Walk around with your bike and then park it in the designated bike area (you will see signs or marker points). Lock the bicycle and end the trip. The payment will be automatically deducted from your linked wechat, Alipay or Alipay account, so you don't need to do anything else.

Pick a cinema and movie, choose seats, and pay. Show the ticket QR code at the cinema.
