January 1 (Thu): New Year's Day
New Year’s Day on January 1 is a public holiday. In Singapore, the biggest celebrations are reserved for Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year), so January 1 is simply a holiday with fewer special events. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, you’ll find countdown events in the Marina Bay area and around Clarke Quay, with fireworks lighting up the night. There isn’t really an extended year-end/new-year vacation here, so many people are back at work from January 2.
February 17 (Tue)–18 (Wed): Spring Festival (Lunar New Year)
Because Lunar New Year follows the traditional lunar calendar, its date changes every year. In Singapore, where about 70% of the population is of Chinese heritage, the city gradually slips into a year-end festive mood as January begins. Supermarkets start stocking auspicious sweets, and red—considered a lucky color—appears everywhere in joyful decorations.
Chinatown comes alive with countless lanterns, creating a beautiful scene to enjoy. During the Lunar New Year period, many shops are closed, so plan your visit with care. Note: Monday, February 12 is an observed holiday.

Monday, March 30: Hari Raya Puasa

It’s the day the Buddha was born. The date changes every year, but in 2023 it’s May 22 (Wed). In Japan, it’s also known as “Hana Matsuri” or “Kanbutsue,” while devout Buddhists in Singapore gather at temples for candlelight processions and the ritual bathing of Buddha statues.
June 17 (Wed): Hari Raya Haji
It’s a Muslim holiday also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice.” On this day, devout believers gather at mosques for a solemn ritual, offering sheep or goats and praying. In Islam, there is a tradition of visiting one another’s homes.
August 9 (Sunday): Independence Day (National Day)
It’s a public holiday across Singapore. Marking the day the country officially gained independence from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965, spectacular celebrations unfold all across the island. The National Day Parade (NDP), an independence commemoration parade, is the showpiece highlight of National Day.

Smart Travel Tips for Singapore Holidays
- Advance reservation: During the National Day holiday (August 9th), the fireworks viewing restaurants and hotels near Marina Bay will be sold out 2-3 months in advance. If you come during the Spring Festival or Deepavali, the accommodation price may increase slightly if you book it in advance.
- Using public transportation: The MRT is the best way to travel during holidays - there will be no traffic jams. Purchase an EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay card for convenient travel (available at convenience stores).
- Participate in open days: During the Eid al-Fitr or Lantern Festival, ask your hotel staff about local Open Day recommendations. This is a free way to taste authentic cuisine and get to know Singaporeans - if you like, you can bring some small gifts (such as fruits) (not mandatory).
- Avoid crowds: If you don't like crowded people, don't go to Chinatown during the Spring Festival and don't go to Little India during Deepavali. On the contrary, go to a garden (such as Gardens by the Bay) or a beach (Sentosa) to enjoy a quieter time.

The room was clean and quite new, looked like it had been recently renovated, but there was no strange smell. The view from the window was great, overlooking the Singapore River, and in the morning, many people were jogging by the river. There's a restaurant downstairs, but I didn't try it, though I saw many people eating there in the mornings. Just a ten-minute walk from the hotel is a shopping mall with a supermarket and plenty of food options. The subway station is underground. The hotel's location is excellent, directly connected to a mall, and within walking distance of famous attractions like Gardens by the Bay and Merlion Park, making getting around incredibly convenient. This is an honest review of Carlton Hotel Singapore, where my mother and I stayed in the second week of August!
I'll summarize what I felt during my stay.
Floor: I requested a high floor when booking, but unfortunately, it wasn't accommodated, and we were assigned the 8th floor. However, the room condition was pleasant, so we didn't experience much inconvenience during our stay.
Bed Type: The room type was an Executive Room. We requested twin beds so my mom and I could sleep comfortably, and they provided a room with two beds, which was perfect. The bedding was fresh, and the mattress was soft, so we slept soundly every night.
Deposit & Cancellation Period: A deposit of $200 (SGD) is authorized upon check-in. Even if you use paid services, they are not deducted from the deposit; you pay for them separately upon check-out. It's been about 3 days since we checked out, and the deposit cancellation hasn't been processed yet, likely because it's an overseas authorization. It usually takes a few days to 1-2 weeks depending on the card company, so it's best to wait patiently.
Bathroom & Amenities: Toothpaste and toothbrushes were provided, and shampoo, body wash, and conditioner were well-stocked, which we used comfortably throughout our stay. A hairdryer was also available.
Cleaning & Refill: If you press the 'Please Clean Up' switch in the room, they will clean the room and replenish water, towels, toothpaste, and toothbrushes generously every time.
Tip for Bedding Change: If you want to have the bed sheets completely changed, make sure to place the green sign provided in the room on the bed, and they will replace them with fresh bedding.
Upon arriving at night, the magnificent glass chandelier stretching across the lobby ceiling immediately caught my eye. The high ceiling and luxurious feel made a great first impression.
The swimming pool is quite small. However, Singapore's weather is extremely hot and humid, so people were constantly in the water regardless of the time of day. It was sufficient for cooling down and chilling out lightly during the day or evening.
Gym: Across the swimming pool, there's a gym. It was clean and a simple hotel gym, perfect for a light workout.
Breakfast/Hotel Dining: I didn't book breakfast because of the pressure to wake up early to eat breakfast when traveling. Instead of using the hotel's breakfast, lunch, or dinner buffets, we creatively handled our meals with delivery food and restaurants in nearby shopping malls.
Raffles City Shopping Mall: The Raffles City shopping mall right next to the hotel was incredibly convenient! The restaurant and food court options were so good that we often went to Raffles City for our meals during our stay.
Room Service: On the first night, we arrived at the hotel around 10-11 PM and were tired, so we ordered room service. The food tasted really delicious and satisfying, but as expected with Singapore prices, it was quite expensive. The taste is guaranteed, so it might be nice to use it once for a treat!
Location & Transportation: On the map, I thought Merlion Park was within walking distance, but Singapore's August weather was hotter and more humid than I imagined, so walking was definitely not an option.
Instead, there were well-located bus stops near the hotel, and we consistently took buses to major attractions, including Merlion Park. The routes were so well-established that we got around very conveniently. When it's hot, always use public transport!
This was a trip with my mom, and thanks to the nearby shopping mall, meals were convenient. Overall, it was a satisfying hotel stay. I recommend it to anyone looking for a well-located accommodation in the heart of Singapore.FromTWD 5,469

This hotel, formerly the Peninsula Excelsior, is divided into a South Tower and a North Tower, with the South Tower generally considered better by online reviewers. Its location is excellent, within walking distance to Merlion Park, National Gallery Singapore, National Museum of Singapore, and Fort Canning Park. Chinatown is also just a 20-minute walk away, which is incredibly convenient. Next door is Funan Mall, which houses a FairPrice Finest supermarket, where we got all our food and drinks for a few days.
I booked a standard room and specifically requested a room in the South Tower during check-in. I got room 1106, which faced the hotel, overlooking the pool and the lobby's canopy. It should have been a relatively quiet room type, but I could still hear occasional sounds from the fire station and intermittent machinery noises (not sure where they were coming from). The room's cleanliness was generally acceptable, but the fingerprints on the window glass remained uncleaned from check-in until check-out. During my extended stay, I noticed the housekeeping staff took off their shoes when entering to clean, and the room was tidied up quite well. The mattress is quite firm, so it might not be suitable if you prefer a softer bed. There were three types of pillows to choose from, but no latex pillows. The step in the bathroom tripped me three times; it was quite tricky.
Toiletries didn't include cotton swabs or combs. I had to dial 0 to request them and waited for at least an hour...FromTWD 5,317

One feature I especially loved was the water dispenser with adjustable temperature settings. The lobby also offers complimentary local snacks, which the kids absolutely loved. They also have a self-service luggage storage room. Being able to get to the ocean quickly and encountering wildlife we don't usually see was also a plus. We had trouble because there was no tissue or drinking water (though you can buy it at the shop), and while there's nothing that can be done about it, I was surprised by how ants appeared out of nowhere. I don't think we left any ant-attracting food out, but perhaps something happened. Despite these minor issues, the location was excellent, and the room was clean. This hotel is conveniently located right on Orchard Road. It's just a 1-minute walk from MRT Exit 1. Plus, it's connected to Tanglin Mall on the second floor, which means easy access to a supermarket, pharmacy, clothing stores, and various dining options – super convenient! What's more, the hotel is really close to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, just a 5-minute walk away. Pros: Close to Sentosa Island, right next to Vivocity and a large supermarket, making shopping and getting around very convenient (the watermelon photo in the review was taken at the supermarket). The room also has a mini-fridge. Although the room isn't huge, it's considered good value for money in Singapore.
Cons: Housekeeping only comes once every two days and isn't very thorough. On the day they did clean, I came back to find the cups hadn't been washed properly. There were also small bugs on the table (though perhaps that's common in Southeast Asia).
Overall, it's a good choice! If I come back to Singapore, I might choose to stay here again.

This is an incredible hotel, from the staff at Reception to the Concierge and Housekeeping, everyone was genuinely friendly, helpful and accommodating! It's the fourth hotel I stayed in on this street in SIN over the years and my first time at this hotel! Good choice!
With trains and buses practically at your doorstep and most other attractions that I wanted to go to all within walking distance, I can only say thank you for an amazing stay!

Overall, the room was quite small and the facilities were a bit old. The bedding was clean, no bugs or anything. However, it wasn't a duvet but more like a blanket made of a large bath towel material. Let's just say it kept me from getting cold while sleeping. The air conditioner was clunking loudly at first, but miraculously, it quieted down after I adjusted the settings – I guess I got lucky. My child left the travel adapter in the room. Several hours later, I went to the front desk, and despite my broken English, the lovely front desk staff found it for me. A quick registration and it was all sorted. The overall service was quite warm and welcoming. Staying one night was acceptable. Oh, and by the way, there's no wet/dry separation in the bathroom. If that's important to you, make sure to check before booking. Many hotels in Singapore don't have wet/dry separation, likely due to space constraints. It's within walking distance of Clarke Quay, which I recommend visiting at night – it's very close. It's also not far from the MRT station. It is close to supermarkets and shopping districts, which is extremely convenient for daily shopping and wandering around. I think we hit the jackpot with this hotel. Very thankful that we experienced all the positives for this hotel.
What we like:
Clean. No ants nor bugs. Bedding and pillows also clean and no weird smells.
Very welcoming and polite staff at check in. She helped to distract my kids with some check in entertainment when she saw that they kept asking for my attention while I was trying to check in. Staff at Native Kitchen also very helpful and polite. They still gave a small discount even though we ate there after we checked out. Staff are also fast and efficient when we requested for more pillows.
Pool area (4 pools) is super pretty and my son had a great time playing 2 ball games in the pool during their entertainment hours. The Aqua Zumba (I think - unsure of the name) was also good and the instructor made every second fun! My girl and I loved dancing in the water to his music and moves!
Both noons also we had some free snacks courtesy of Village, at the reception area. These made my kids giddy with joy.
We were not celebrating anything but we saw reception pass out birthday favours for those that are. This is a plus point for me. It shows they make an effort.
What we don’t like:
Pool walking area is dirty in the late noon but can’t be helped as it got very crowded and it’s quite hard to clean the floor up with so many people around. Also, not enough chairs. We reached about 9am and majority taken up. We went back in the noon and also no seats. Do go early if you want to grab seats for your things. The rainfall water feature at the lazy river is also very strong pressure and might border on being painful or scary if you have young kids or are sunburnt. Some mould at lazy river walls too. Not a fan, but not something that ticks my no list.
Overall- definitely definitely definitely recommended. Room is small but you won’t be inside most of the time with so much to do in Sentosa.FromTWD 5,924

The only slight drawback was that we were traveling with two small children, and there are only stairs at the hotel entrance, making it impossible to pull our stroller up. We had to carry it every time. While the doorman's service attitude was excellent, we couldn't always find them when we needed help carrying things. Stayed for 1N for staycation - just wish to decompress from work and dont wanna travel out of the country. I choose this hotel on ourpose for the high floor option and the Marina Bay view. The highlight was definitely the room and the spectacular views from the 46th floor. Watching Singapore change from day to night was beautiful, and waking up to the morning skyline was just as memorable.
The room was comfortable and the overall hotel experience felt relaxing and special, which was exactly what we wanted from a staycation. Breakfast was enjoyable too, with a pleasant atmosphere and good variety.

A special shout-out to the Korean lady at the 38th-floor club; even though she didn't speak Chinese, she communicated meticulously in English with a constant smile, which was both elegant and warm.

I arrived well after midnight, completely exhausted after my trip. If you’re arriving at Terminal 3 late at night, I personally wouldn’t recommend this hotel because it isn’t the most convenient option after a long journey. However, if you’re arriving during the day or in the afternoon, I think it’s a good choice.
Unfortunately, I ran into a small issue in my room. The TV wouldn’t turn off because the remote control wasn’t working properly. One staff member initially seemed a little frustrated and focused on explaining the hotel’s procedures. At that moment, I was extremely tired, hot from Singapore’s humid weather, and honestly just wanted to get some sleep rather than discuss the situation.
In the end, the only solution was to unplug the TV from the power socket, which the staff helped me do. Once he realized that was the only way to turn it off, the situation quickly settled down.
Thankfully, after that, everything changed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I fell into a deep sleep almost immediately. The staff I met the following morning were also very kind, friendly, and helpful, which left me with a much better impression.
Overall, my stay had a rough start, but it ended on a positive note. If you’re arriving during the day, I think this hotel is a solid option. If you’re arriving at Terminal 3 in the middle of the night, though, you may want to consider a hotel that’s closer or easier to reach.eFromTWD 5,270
