What Is the Vietnam Arrival Card?

The Vietnam Arrival Card is officially called the NA1 Form. It is required for all foreign tourists arriving by air (not needed for land or sea entry in most cases). It replaced the old M3 form and serves as a combined entry/exit declaration that immigration officers stamp in your passport. Vietnam currently offers both digital and paper versions of the NA1 form.

  • Combines arrival declaration, health statement, and customs information
  • Free to complete (official government service)
  • Available in multiple languages (including English)

Useful Vietnam Travel Tips

1. Stay Connected: Vietnam eSIM

Obtain a Vietnam eSIM before arrival to avoid roaming charges. Available through Trip.com and other providers (starting at $5 per day, unlimited data). No physical SIM card required - activate immediately upon arrival.

2. Transportation from Airport

  • Taxi: Use official airport taxis with meters (such as Mai Linh, Vinasun)
  • Ride-hailing: Download the Grab or Gojek app to enjoy safer and more affordable rides
  • Public transportation: Many airports have buses to the city center (for example, Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi has Airport Bus No. 7).

3. Currency & Payments

  • Vietnam uses the Vietnamese dong (VND). Exchange small items worth 100 to 200 US dollars at the airport
  • Major credit cards can be used in hotels and restaurants, but in markets and street food stalls, cash is indispensable
  • Atms can be seen everywhere (using the ATMs of banks can get the most favorable interest rates).

4. Must-Pack Items

  • Passport holders: Keep your passports and entry confirmation cards in order
  • Mobile charger: For your phone (which you will use for navigation and digital files)
  • Print backup: Your NA1 confirmation and eVisa (if applicable)
  • Small gift: For business travelers (not mandatory, but very popular)

As a frequent traveler who has experienced numerous hotels across the globe, Eastin Grand Hotel Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City stands out as a remarkable choice for both business and leisure trips. Having stayed here multiple times, I can confidently say it consistently delivers a top-notch experience. The hotel's prime location is a significant advantage. It's conveniently situated just a 10-15 minute drive from Tan Son Nhat International Airport , making transitions smooth after long flights. While not in the very heart of District 1, it offers easy access to the city center and key attractions like the War Remnants Museum and Independence Palace, with taxis and Grab services readily available. The service is truly exceptional. The staff is highly efficient, professional, and courteous. Check-in and check-out processes are always swift and hassle-free . What impressed me greatly is the multilingual proficiency of the faculty; they are not only fluent in English but some also converse comfortably in Chinese, which is immensely helpful for international guests. Accommodations are spacious and well-appointed. The rooms are elegantly furnished with modern amenities, including comfortable beds, minibars, refrigerators, and complimentary Wi-Fi. While some guests note that certain areas of the hotel show slight signs of age, the rooms are maintained very cleanly. A minor point some travelers mention is that the air conditioning can be quite powerful. Dining options are a highlight. The breakfast buffet is extensive and delicious, featuring a wide variety of choices from Vietnamese pho and Western pastries to sushi and fresh fruits. The hotel houses several restaurants, including Tung Garden for Chinese cuisine and Cafe Sai Gon for international dishes, ensuring diverse culinary experiences throughout the day. For relaxation and productivity, the facilities are outstanding. The outdoor swimming pool is perfect for a refreshing dip or some laps, and the well-equipped fitness center allows you to maintain your workout routine. Business travelers will appreciate the executive lounge and the comprehensive business center with meeting rooms. In conclusion, Eastin Grand Hotel Saigon excels in comfort, convenience, and service. It's a hotel I return to without hesitation and wholeheartedly recommend to fellow travelers seeking a reliable and enjoyable stay in Ho Chi Minh City.

Located right on the Saigon River, the surrounding commercial area is very lively. The breakfast spread offered an excellent variety, and the hotel staff were incredibly friendly. We even witnessed them celebrating a guest's birthday, which showed a lot of thoughtfulness. However, as it's an older hotel and coupled with Ho Chi Minh City's high humidity, the room always had a persistent damp/musty odor.

Staying in such a cozy place right in the heart of the city felt truly special. The variety of breakfast options each morning was a wonderful way to start the day, and the easy access to nearby attractions and shopping made my stay even more enjoyable. The well-maintained fitness center and swimming pool also provided the perfect space to relax and recharge. With thoughtful service and such a comfortable atmosphere, this stay has become a truly memorable experience. I would love to return again in the future.

This was our first time in Vietnam, and we were lucky to stay at this excellent hotel. From the start, the hotel impressed us. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. They always explained things to us and showed us around. They did their best to meet our requests. I want to mention the free drinks, too. The location is very convenient. It is away from noise and within walking distance of many interesting places. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and everything in it was in good condition. The only problem was the television, which sometimes had issues. Breakfast was a complete delight, offering both European and Asian cuisine. There were a lot of delicious pastries and fruits. The waiters and waitresses were very polite and always happy to tell us about the food or drinks we wanted.

Beautiful hotel located right in District 1. Was a short walk to a large number of tourist attractions, such as the walking street, the cafe apartments, and some amazing french architecture. District 1 is a bit more expensive on the day to day though, so if you are planning a long trip in HCMC, I would recommend bouncing around a little, especially for food as the street food around here wasn't that great. The hotel service is exceptional, and you really feel like an honoured guest. Service with a smile at all times! The breakfast is good quality, and I particularly enjoyed sampling the array of coffees they had. The facilities were present, but the pool is in an internal courtyard, so doesn't really give any views. The rooftop bar has a decent view, but the cocktails were not particularly good for a 5 star hotel. I would recommend the bar management do some taste-testing of their staples! Overall, though, a great experience for those who want to be in the heart of District 1.

Really excellent service, the lobby is very pleasant, the location is really convenient and good. The breakfast is full of good things but the raw materials are mediocre and the cooks are bad, the fried rice is tasteless. In my opinion, the cooking teams that prepare the food need to learn to cook. The breakfast room is full of rude tourists who shout or just take up space to sit.  Now for the Room it self;  Very very small rooms, 20 square meters per couple, really tiny. The pool was closed for use due to the season. And the rooftop is ugly and boring. Would I stay there again? If I stay alone, maybe. Overall, the hotel is not bad for a single person. It's just a shame that there are no windows in the rooms because it's suffocating. Claustrophobic, the bathrooms need to be converted to regular showers. 7 on our index

I eould like to provide feedback on my recent stay at your property. While I appreciated the hotel's excellent location in District 7, its proximity to District 1, and the convenience of being adjacent to a shopping mall, my overall experience was unfortunately very disappointing due to several significant issues. Firstly, I found the photographs of the room on your booking platform to be highly misleading. I specifically selected and paid for a room that was advertised with a bathtub, which was a key factor in my decision to book. Upon arrival, I was assigned a room that not only lacked a bathtub but was also exceptionally small. This discrepancy between what was promised and what was provided is unacceptable. Secondly, I encountered a serious issue with the management of my breakfast inclusion. I had confirmed a booking that included breakfast. However, when I arrived at the restaurant at 9:30 AM (well within the stated service hours, which end at 10:00 AM), your staff had no record of my breakfast entitlement. After I presented my receipt as proof, the staff member I interacted with was incredibly rude. Instead of an apology for the error, I was dismissively told, ”Ok, you only have 5 minutes to eat.” The mistake was entirely on the hotel's end, and the time spent verifying my booking—a process that should have been seamless—directly cut into the limited time I had to dine. This poor handling of the situation and the staff's impolite demeanor made what should have been a simple meal into a very frustrating experience. Due to these issues—the misleading room description and the unprofessional service regarding the breakfast—my stay was profoundly unsatisfactory. The combination of these factors has led me to conclude that this will be my first and last stay at Oakwood Resident Saigon.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights out of my five-day, four-night business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It's arguably the most upscale five-star hotel near the airport, just a few minutes away by taxi. From my room, I could even see the airport. Every day, I'd notice airline crews staying here, too. The rooms are spacious, the environment is beautiful, and the staff provides excellent service. Plus, there are complimentary toiletries and coffee in the room. A magical place away from civilization! For peace and quiet! The mineral water is magical! On weekdays there are very few people, both in the hotel and in the park. It feels like you are alone there! Incredible relaxation! The hotel is huge, conducive to walks, but there are also electric cars that will take you wherever you need. The breakfasts are top notch! Everything is super! Lunches and dinners from the menu - very tasty? But a bit expensive... Minus: far from everything, no ATM, shops - stalls with small items. This is not enough for a long stay. But you can take a taxi to the city (about 5 km) for 300,000 there and back with waiting. You can call a taxi from the reception.

I had a very comfortable stay at the myst hotel’s verdant calm balcony view. It overlooks the Times Square and you can catch a glimpse of the Nguyen hue street if you’re on a higher floor. The room was very spacious and the facilities including mattress were of quality better than other 4 star hotels. Free minibar and high tea also a plus. Everything was perfect for us as the room assigned was very well located. The same just might not be the case for other room types or those on the first few floors. I’d recommend this for younger couples, i think it’ll be great.

Fantastic hotel. Bed was very firm, just as I like it. Bathroom very clean with upscale amenities. Several international TV channels. Seemingly a pretty new hotel. Breakfast was way above average with many items to choose from, including several kind of cheeses.  However,  no roses without thorns. I ordered and received an excellent room with a window. Unfortunately the window was a fixed window and could not open. I cannot sleep with the A/C on, hence a stuffy room.  Suggest the hotel makes windows, which can be kipped.

During a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, I took the opportunity to bring my family along and stay at Hôtel des Arts Saigon. Ever since I first visited the hotel briefly, I had been longing to return—and this time, experiencing it with my family made it all the more special. Located in the heart of District 1, the hotel enjoys a prime location in the vibrant city center. As its name suggests, Hôtel des Arts is inspired by 1930s French Indochina, with an Art Deco style that runs seamlessly throughout the architecture and interiors. The public spaces are filled with carefully curated artwork and antiques, making the entire hotel feel like a living art gallery. Our room was on a high floor with a stunning city view—absolutely gorgeous. The rooftop bar was definitely a highlight. As my child put it, ”It's super chill.” From sunset to evening, there's live DJ music, and sipping a signature cocktail by the infinity pool while watching the sun go down was truly magical—perhaps one of the best rooftop moments in the city. The service was impeccable. From the moment we entered the lobby, to checking in upstairs, to being greeted at the rooftop bar, every staff member we encountered was polite, welcoming, and professional. In-room requests were handled promptly and efficiently. We also enjoyed the food very much. The Pho was especially authentic—whether served as room service or at breakfast. Breakfast offered a wide variety, and the staff even remembered our table when we went to order from the live cooking stations—such a thoughtful touch. The hotel is within walking distance of many key attractions, which made getting around very convenient. The only minor downside was the Youth Center downstairs, which hosts various events and can be a little noisy during the day. But considering the central location, it’s a small trade-off for everything else the hotel offers. Overall, we had a truly relaxing and “chill” weekend as a family. Elegant, artistic, comfortable, and full of warm hospitality—Hôtel des Arts Saigon delivered a perfect urban retreat.

I had a wonderful stay at The Odys Boutique Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The location is excellent — it’s very close to one of the city’s attractions, the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, which makes sightseeing super convenient. The hotel staff were all very friendly and polite, always greeting guests with a smile. I also really appreciated the free drinks and snacks available at the lobby, especially the ginger candies — a lovely touch! Although my room didn’t have a window, it was clean, comfortable, and had no unpleasant smell. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of delicious options to choose from — definitely a great way to start the day. There’s still a bit of room for improvement: the only mirror is inside the bathroom, so it would be more convenient if there were also a mirror in the bedroom area for doing skincare or makeup. The bathroom counter also has limited space for placing personal items. Additionally, while soap is provided, there isn’t a soap dish, which would be a nice addition. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, and I would definitely recommend The Odys Boutique Hotel for anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City!

Arrived early at 12pm but check-in was not until 2pm. When I came back at 2pm, they upgraded my room as a goodwill gesture. Room was neat and clean. Particularly like the co-working area on the mezzanine level, within it there is a free laundry area.

The room is good and cheap. All toiletries were been given. Service also good. But, it's in the bar area so at night till early morning it will be very noisy. Not suitable for those how want calm and quiet stay.

We always travel as a family & I must say.. Staying in Sedona has been the best hotel experience for us! Best breakfast buffet, super warm and friendly staff, super clean rooms, with super good quality room supplies, food in their room service and restos are really good! Kid friendly, baby friendly! Accommodated all our requests! The elevators are fast- You never have to wait for minutes to get in. The location is the most ideal too! My daughter even said if we ever go back to Ho Chi Minh, she likes to stay in sedona again. Thank you Sedona Suites for our memorable and comfortable stay. Not even the famous hotel chains can compare.

FAQs about Vietnam Arrival Card

  • Is there a Vietnam digital arrival card?

Yes! Vietnam offers an online version of the NA1 form that you can complete at https://evisa.immigration.gov.vn or https://thithucdientu.gov.vn. It's free and recommended for all travelers to save time at immigration.
  • Do Filipinos need an arrival card in Vietnam?

Yes. All foreign tourists arriving by air, including Filipinos, must complete the NA1 form (digital or paper). However, Philippine citizens are visa-exempt for stays up to 21 days, so they only need the arrival card, not a visa.
  • What is a pre-arrival letter for Vietnam?

A pre-arrival letter (also called visa approval letter) is required for Visa on Arrival (VOA) applicants. It's an official document issued by Vietnam Immigration that you apply for online in advance. You must print it and bring it to the airport along with your passport, photos, and stamping fee (about $25 USD).
  • What forms do I need to enter Vietnam?

The main form is the NA1 arrival card. Additionally:
Visa-exempt travelers: Only the NA1 form
eVisa holders: NA1 form + printed eVisa
VOA applicants: NA1 form + visa approval letter + passport photos + cash for stamping fee
  • What is an online arrival card?

The online arrival card is Vietnam's digital version of the NA1 form. It allows you to complete the required entry information online in advance, receive a confirmation, and present it at immigration digitally (via smartphone) or printed. This eliminates the need to fill out paper forms at the airport.
