What Is the Vietnam Arrival Card?

The Vietnam Arrival Card is officially called the NA1 Form. It is required for all foreign tourists arriving by air (not needed for land or sea entry in most cases). It replaced the old M3 form and serves as a combined entry/exit declaration that immigration officers stamp in your passport. Vietnam currently offers both digital and paper versions of the NA1 form.

  • Combines arrival declaration, health statement, and customs information
  • Free to complete (official government service)
  • Available in multiple languages (including English)

Useful Vietnam Travel Tips

1. Stay Connected: Vietnam eSIM

Obtain a Vietnam eSIM before arrival to avoid roaming charges. Available through Trip.com and other providers (starting at $5 per day, unlimited data). No physical SIM card required - activate immediately upon arrival.

2. Transportation from Airport

  • Taxi: Use official airport taxis with meters (such as Mai Linh, Vinasun)
  • Ride-hailing: Download the Grab or Gojek app to enjoy safer and more affordable rides
  • Public transportation: Many airports have buses to the city center (for example, Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi has Airport Bus No. 7).

3. Currency & Payments

  • Vietnam uses the Vietnamese dong (VND). Exchange small items worth 100 to 200 US dollars at the airport
  • Major credit cards can be used in hotels and restaurants, but in markets and street food stalls, cash is indispensable
  • Atms can be seen everywhere (using the ATMs of banks can get the most favorable interest rates).

4. Must-Pack Items

  • Passport holders: Keep your passports and entry confirmation cards in order
  • Mobile charger: For your phone (which you will use for navigation and digital files)
  • Print backup: Your NA1 confirmation and eVisa (if applicable)
  • Small gift: For business travelers (not mandatory, but very popular)

As a frequent traveler who has experienced numerous hotels across the globe, Eastin Grand Hotel Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City stands out as a remarkable choice for both business and leisure trips. Having stayed here multiple times, I can confidently say it consistently delivers a top-notch experience. The hotel's prime location is a significant advantage. It's conveniently situated just a 10-15 minute drive from Tan Son Nhat International Airport , making transitions smooth after long flights. While not in the very heart of District 1, it offers easy access to the city center and key attractions like the War Remnants Museum and Independence Palace, with taxis and Grab services readily available. The service is truly exceptional. The staff is highly efficient, professional, and courteous. Check-in and check-out processes are always swift and hassle-free . What impressed me greatly is the multilingual proficiency of the faculty; they are not only fluent in English but some also converse comfortably in Chinese, which is immensely helpful for international guests. Accommodations are spacious and well-appointed. The rooms are elegantly furnished with modern amenities, including comfortable beds, minibars, refrigerators, and complimentary Wi-Fi. While some guests note that certain areas of the hotel show slight signs of age, the rooms are maintained very cleanly. A minor point some travelers mention is that the air conditioning can be quite powerful. Dining options are a highlight. The breakfast buffet is extensive and delicious, featuring a wide variety of choices from Vietnamese pho and Western pastries to sushi and fresh fruits. The hotel houses several restaurants, including Tung Garden for Chinese cuisine and Cafe Sai Gon for international dishes, ensuring diverse culinary experiences throughout the day. For relaxation and productivity, the facilities are outstanding. The outdoor swimming pool is perfect for a refreshing dip or some laps, and the well-equipped fitness center allows you to maintain your workout routine. Business travelers will appreciate the executive lounge and the comprehensive business center with meeting rooms. In conclusion, Eastin Grand Hotel Saigon excels in comfort, convenience, and service. It's a hotel I return to without hesitation and wholeheartedly recommend to fellow travelers seeking a reliable and enjoyable stay in Ho Chi Minh City.

The hotel has adapted the 2PM check in time unlike before they allowed check in even in the morning. It would be wiser to let guests check in early in case rooms are available since the guests would tend to choose those hotels with leniency. Aside from that, the room and hotel facilities are very clean and nicely maintained. The foods in the restaurant for breakfast are not typical tastes the same as the local which is very delicious. Overall, I rate the hotel a 8 over 10 due to its inexpensive price. Will go back to stay in my future trip to Vietnam.

Quite satisfied with this hotel. The facilities are excellent, and the service is outstanding—everyone I encountered had a smile. The breakfast was good and very plentiful. Beautiful boutique hotel. It was my birthday and wanted a nice hotel to end our travels in Vietnam. Great location, rooftop pool and terrace bar lovely. Was up and out so no time to try the breakfast hut looked nice. Fresh towels and water changed daily. They gave me a cake as a surprise for my birthday that was cute. Bad points - the room we stayed in the drain was making noises all night sounded like water was running. The shower was awful literally a small handheld one on the wall that if you moved it would soak the whole bathroom, and the bath was a bit grotty round the sides. When checking out we got accused of taking a towel from the room when we never did! They tried getting us to pay for this towel we refused as we did not take the towel! So please be aware when staying here that they don’t try to charge you for something!!!

Facilities: The facilities are a bit dated. The breakfast was decent. However, the value for money wasn't great, as it felt a bit overpriced. Cleanliness: Cleanliness met expectations, and the bedding was clean and neat. Environment: The surrounding area is very convenient, with easy access to taxis and plenty of dining options. Service: The service was acceptable, but my request for a late checkout was denied.

I had a good stay at the Majestic. The building has historical character and there is value in that, but for a five star hotel it is starting to feel a bit too dated. I cannot possibly rate this hotel in any bad way, my stay was very comfortable and the staff was kind and attentive. I was offered a late checkout when I mentioned my flight was at 4pm, which I appreciated, and the breakfast is very complete with a nice view over the river. However, there were also shortcomings. The pool is small, although beautiful. There is no free access to the spa for hotel guests, even sauna and Turkish bath. There was a happy hour sign at the door with a 30%-50% discount for spa treatments but I was told this did not apply to hotel guests. The room is spacious but my suite did not have a view to the river, or any view at all for that matter - it quite literally faced a wall, which also prevented the room for brightening up to its full potential. The furnishings in the room could do with some updates. I believe restoration works are underway, which in my case was a negative because of the noise from 10AM; housekeeping did leave a sign apologising after, but would have been nice to know of the works beforehand. Overall this is a beautiful and comfortable property in a historical location in Saigon, but for the price there are other newer options in a city where you might find a more luxurious experience. It depends what you’re looking for!

Alagon Saigon Hotel offers a comfortable stay right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. The location is one of its biggest strengths—close to Ben Thanh Market, major landmarks, and plenty of food options. It’s easy to walk around and explore the city from here. The rooms are decent and reasonably clean, though some areas feel a bit dated and could use a refresh. Service is generally warm and helpful, especially at the front desk. The hotel’s rooftop area is a nice bonus, with a relaxing vibe and a lovely view of the city skyline. Breakfast is average—enough variety to get you started for the day, but not particularly memorable. Overall, Alagon Saigon Hotel is a solid choice if you’re looking for convenience, friendly staff, and good value. Not perfect, but comfortable enough for a short stay in the city.

The hotel has both pros and cons during my stay. First, the room is impressively spacious and very comfortable. The location is also excellent, directly connected to Vivo, which makes everything super convenient. The swimming pool is decent, and the gym is large, though it surprisingly has very few machines. However, there are several issues that really affected the experience. The sound insulation is extremely poor — I could clearly hear people dragging things in the room above, which was very loud and quite irritating. The breakfast was also disappointing and far below expectations. On top of that, the room curtain was torn, which should not happen at this level of hotel. Overall, the stay was comfortable because of the big room and convenient location, but the noise, poor breakfast, and maintenance issues made the experience less enjoyable than it should be.

The Rex Hotel is a traditional and old style hotel, the roof top swimming pool is quite small and isn’t much compared with more modern roof top pools in Ho Chi Minh. So I have not chosen his home. The hotel itself is in a good location, health and facilities are very good, and the service is good. Very suitable for business travel. More than 90% of hotel residents are Japanese. There are not many breakfast options, it is a Japanese-style set meal, but the taste is OK. This place is hard to find even to some locals, and its especially hard for foreigners to come by for the first time. It's a newly building with security at the lobby, and there are shops and restaurants near by which is convenient. However; there is hardly a management of this property, we booked for 4days 3 nights and there were only 4 bottles in total and we had no respond when we required for more water bottles.(good thing is shops are close by.) Secondly, we also had no respond when we requied of house cleaning, we found and killed Cockroaches everyday. Last but not least, the third night of stay hot water running out, I had to take a cold shower. I don't mind taking cold showers in Vietnam's current weather, its just i didnt have an option of hot water makes this stay less worthy. There are also some pros of this property, the views are good, you get to see the landmark 81 building right outside the window, and some parts of river view. Besides the views, they use good quality bedding appliances (mattresses are great) and electrical appliances(dryer in your closet, you get to hang your wet clothes, sanitize and dry them). Overall, I would come back and live here if the management can starting to catch up.

A magical place away from civilization! For peace and quiet! The mineral water is magical! On weekdays there are very few people, both in the hotel and in the park. It feels like you are alone there! Incredible relaxation! The hotel is huge, conducive to walks, but there are also electric cars that will take you wherever you need. The breakfasts are top notch! Everything is super! Lunches and dinners from the menu - very tasty? But a bit expensive... Minus: far from everything, no ATM, shops - stalls with small items. This is not enough for a long stay. But you can take a taxi to the city (about 5 km) for 300,000 there and back with waiting. You can call a taxi from the reception.

Au Lac Charner is well situated for shopping and nightlife. There are several mini marts within a minutes walk. And so many dining options. However, it is the staff and the amenities that truly made our stay well above average. From front desk, the impeccable doormen and restaurant staff, our stay was wonderful. We had a balcony room. I would suggest asking for a higher floor, as we looked into a car park. Our room was spotless. Our cleaner was the most lovely and thorough man. He did a turn down service around 2pm to freshen the room. Au Lac have luggage scales that were brought by staff to our room so we could sort out what we could take for a domestic flight. They stored our extra luggage until our return. Water is not rationed. Or charged if you want more. And the room service we had a few times was excellent. I recommend the shaking beef noodles. I had a wonderful stay at The Odys Boutique Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The location is excellent — it’s very close to one of the city’s attractions, the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, which makes sightseeing super convenient. The hotel staff were all very friendly and polite, always greeting guests with a smile. I also really appreciated the free drinks and snacks available at the lobby, especially the ginger candies — a lovely touch! Although my room didn’t have a window, it was clean, comfortable, and had no unpleasant smell. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of delicious options to choose from — definitely a great way to start the day. There’s still a bit of room for improvement: the only mirror is inside the bathroom, so it would be more convenient if there were also a mirror in the bedroom area for doing skincare or makeup. The bathroom counter also has limited space for placing personal items. Additionally, while soap is provided, there isn’t a soap dish, which would be a nice addition. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, and I would definitely recommend The Odys Boutique Hotel for anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City!

The staff went above and beyond with a free upgrade to a suite—felt like a well-deserved treat after long meetings. The room was spotless and modern, and I loved the fully equipped kitchenette; it had everything from a microwave and mini-fridge to cookware and utensils, making it super convenient for whipping up quick meals without venturing out. Highly recommend for any biz traveler—comfortable, efficient, and right in the heart of the action

During my stay at M Village Hotel Thi Sach, I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities and service the hotel offered. The hotel looks exactly as pictured and the room is very spacious for 2. Upon our arrival, the staff are very welcoming and helped us carry our luggage up the small step of stairs. They also had a brief introduction of Vietnam and the area we were staying in. Subsequently, they even sent us some recommendations through WhatsApp. We also requested for another chair in the room which they happily provided. Throughout our stay, the staff were very responsive and helpful and typically repl within a few minutes. The gym and rooftop pool are also well maintained and lounge is really pretty. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit. Thank you so much to the team for the welcoming experience :)

Ben Thanh Market Area Ho Chi Minh City|0.76km from city center
The location is truly excellent, making it incredibly easy to explore the Ben Thanh area and surrounding attractions in Ho Chi Minh City. The staff service was outstanding—every member of the team was attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to assist us, which made a huge difference. The breakfast offering standard options, they also included wonderful Japanese elements, specifically delicious Japanese curry rice and authentic miso soup. Due to my room was face to the street, the noise of traffic and people was noticeable The Hotel is a fantastic choice for value, service, and location. If you are sensitive to noise, I recommend that request the room that does not face the main street.

FAQs about Vietnam Arrival Card

  • Is there a Vietnam digital arrival card?

Yes! Vietnam offers an online version of the NA1 form that you can complete at https://evisa.immigration.gov.vn or https://thithucdientu.gov.vn. It's free and recommended for all travelers to save time at immigration.
  • Do Filipinos need an arrival card in Vietnam?

Yes. All foreign tourists arriving by air, including Filipinos, must complete the NA1 form (digital or paper). However, Philippine citizens are visa-exempt for stays up to 21 days, so they only need the arrival card, not a visa.
  • What is a pre-arrival letter for Vietnam?

A pre-arrival letter (also called visa approval letter) is required for Visa on Arrival (VOA) applicants. It's an official document issued by Vietnam Immigration that you apply for online in advance. You must print it and bring it to the airport along with your passport, photos, and stamping fee (about $25 USD).
  • What forms do I need to enter Vietnam?

The main form is the NA1 arrival card. Additionally:
Visa-exempt travelers: Only the NA1 form
eVisa holders: NA1 form + printed eVisa
VOA applicants: NA1 form + visa approval letter + passport photos + cash for stamping fee
  • What is an online arrival card?

The online arrival card is Vietnam's digital version of the NA1 form. It allows you to complete the required entry information online in advance, receive a confirmation, and present it at immigration digitally (via smartphone) or printed. This eliminates the need to fill out paper forms at the airport.
