Suzhou is known for its rich culinary traditions, with its food being a reflection of the city's long history and cultural significance. Here are three must-try dishes, along with a popular restaurant recommendation for each:

We had a perfect stay at Pan Pacific Suzhou! The suite was incredibly spacious and comfortable, consisting of two connected rooms. One room featured a king-size bed, a large living room, and a luxurious bathroom with a huge bathtub. The second room had two single beds, which was perfect for our two adult children. The layout was very thoughtful, with two separate bathrooms and toilets, plus an additional guest toilet in the living room. With four of us staying together, we never had to wait for the bathroom — a huge convenience! The hotel grounds are absolutely stunning, featuring beautiful gardens, traditional architecture, and a pagoda, making it feel like a scenic attraction in itself. As a special bonus, the hotel provided a complimentary 60-minute Hanfu experience, allowing us to take wonderful photos around the property. Honestly, the hotel is so beautiful that you could easily spend a day exploring the grounds without leaving. Another thoughtful touch was that each room was provided with an entire carton of bottled mineral water, which was greatly appreciated. Overall, an exceptional stay with spacious accommodations, beautiful surroundings, and excellent hospitality. We would definitely stay here again when visiting Suzhou!

New Urban District/ Hanshan Temple Suzhou|2.63km from city center
Our Suzhou trip was delightful from start to finish, and choosing the Shangri-La Suzhou at 168 Shishan Road was definitely the right call. As an established five-star hotel, its overall experience was impeccable. The hotel is centrally located in the Shishan core of the High-tech Zone, with a subway entrance right downstairs. Huaihai Street and Longfor Tianjie are within walking distance, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient. It's also just a ten-minute drive to Jinji Lake, perfect for exploring Moonlight Wharf and the Gate of the Orient by day, and catching the sunset over Jinji Lake in the evening. Returning to the hotel to relax after a long day of sightseeing was just what we needed. We stayed in a high-floor room, which was spacious and airy, offering fantastic panoramic views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The bedding was soft and comfortable, and the soundproofing was excellent. The large bathtub and full set of branded toiletries were a welcome touch, helping to wash away all the travel fatigue. Check-in at the front desk was quick and efficient, and the concierge thoughtfully helped us plan our sightseeing route. The turndown service included complimentary Suzhou-style snacks, which was a lovely, warm gesture. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, with authentic and delicious Suzhou noodles and pastries. The heated pool and gym facilities were also top-notch. This hotel perfectly balances convenience with tranquility. It's a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle, making it an excellent choice for a stay in Suzhou, whether you're exploring the classical gardens or visiting Jinji Lake. I'll definitely be staying here again on my next visit.

Guanqian Street/Pingjiang Street Suzhou|4km from city center
Without a doubt, this is the worst five-star hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms and facilities are old and run-down. Everything from the walls to the elevators and the room fixtures was filthy. The weirdest thing is there's no proper shower in the room, just a bathtub. If you want to shower, you have to stand inside the tub and use a handheld sprayer. On top of that, the water temperature was impossible to adjust – it kept switching between freezing cold and scalding hot. For a room like this, costing 489 yuan a night, it should really be around 200 yuan. Even though it's an older hotel from 2012, I didn't expect a chain brand to be this bad. The staff's attitude was good, and both the Chinese restaurant and breakfast selection were quite varied. I originally wanted to give a terrible review, but since I booked it myself, I decided not to be too harsh.

This hotel is incredibly close to Jinji Lake and Suzhou Center Plaza, and the transportation is super convenient—it's just a hundred-meter walk from the subway station. The breakfast spread is great, and the rooms are spacious. Last time I stayed in the city center, but choosing a hotel by Jinji Lake this time was an excellent decision. You can take the subway directly to Mudu Ancient Town, Tongli Ancient Town, and the Benshe Market. When you don't have a car, being close to the subway and having easy access to transportation is absolutely crucial. If you want to catch the musical fountain, make sure to go on a Friday or Saturday, as it doesn't run on weekdays.

Came to Suzhou for a concert during the May Day holiday and brought the kids and my parents along for a trip. The hotel is just a few steps from the subway station. You need to transfer to get to the Olympic Sports Center, but it's very convenient, only about three stops in total. The three-bedroom suite we booked this time was perfect for a large family like ours. It also has three bathrooms and a large double-door refrigerator. However, someone had put durian in the fridge before, and it smelled awful, making it unusable for us. I hope the hotel can do a better job with cleaning and deodorizing! There's an oven, microwave, and induction hob, but no pots or pans were provided. Does that mean they expect guests to cook or not? We didn't need to cook, but it just felt a bit confusing. There are restaurants and convenience stores right across from the hotel.

Dragon Boat Festival Getaway with the Kids | Suzhou InterContinental's Kids Suite Truly Understands Little Ones! For the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend, we booked the Suzhou InterContinental's children's themed suite, and embarked on a relaxing vacation with our little one, Cheng Bao 🌿. As soon as we opened the door, Cheng Bao let out a joyful shout – the room was filled with fun, kid-friendly amenities! There was a rocking horse 🐎, a mini play kitchen 🍳, and even a small trampoline and slide. From the moment we walked in, she was in full play mode, easily spending the whole afternoon just playing in the room. The bathroom had a large round bathtub, and the kids' amenities were quite comprehensive. This time, I forgot to bring Cheng Bao's car-shaped swim ring, so she couldn't fully enjoy playing in the water – a small regret for next time. The entire room was decorated perfectly for young children, with soft, thoughtful details. In the lobby downstairs, Cheng Bao devoured two coconuts 🥥, a lemon cake 🍰, and some freshly squeezed orange juice – her little mouth didn't stop! The Sky Lounge on the 25th floor is perfect for enjoying the night view, the Ferris wheel 🎡, and the iconic 'Big Pants' building. Slowing down and spending this soft and sweet Dragon Boat Festival holiday with Cheng Bao, every little bit of joy is worth cherishing. #SuzhouInterContinental #KidsFriendlyHotel #DragonBoatFestival

I originally booked a Classic Room package. The front desk staff suggested upgrading to a Balcony Room, which is 30 square meters larger, for an additional 500 RMB. I took their advice, and after comparing, I think it was worth it because not only did I get more space, but also a large balcony and double breakfast. The room was high-ceilinged and cool, the air conditioning was comfortable, and the mattress was very pleasant. There were many books in the room to browse. The bathroom had a double vanity, but I was a little disappointed that not every sink had both hand soap and lotion. The left sink had hand soap, and the right one had lotion. So, if you wanted to wash your hands, you went to the left sink, and then to the right sink for lotion after washing. The two sinks were quite far apart with a large bathtub in the middle. I hope the hotel can be a bit more generous and provide both items at each sink, which would be much more convenient. From the moment I entered the hotel, the service felt like I was entering my own home. There were complimentary snacks, and the tea served was also good. All the staff greeted me with proactive smiles. The breakfast selection wasn't extensive, but everything was high quality, though there's room for improvement with the Western pastries. This trip, I specifically went for the noodles at Su Mian Fang. The service and taste were absolutely incredible, though the price was a bit on the high side. I wanted to eat them again. I'm not sure if it's because I rarely eat Su noodles and am therefore less knowledgeable, or if they truly are considered a delicacy among Suzhou noodles. Additionally, the hotel's environment is very Suzhou-like, and it's located by the lake in front of the Gate of the Orient.

Throughout my stay, I was deeply impressed by the hotel's meticulous service. The front desk staff were warm and patient, making the check-in process quick and efficient. They proactively introduced the hotel's facilities and local attractions. Housekeeping tidied the room regularly and replenished amenities promptly. Any requests made to the front desk were met with a quick response and a polite, gentle attitude. The public areas were cleaned daily, free of any unpleasant odors, and the elevator control system ensured high security, which gave me great peace of mind traveling with elderly family members and children. From the moment we arrived with guidance and luggage assistance, to handling various minor requests later on, everything was managed properly without any perfunctory treatment. The service was professional and warm, and the attention to detail made the entire trip comfortable and relaxing. The location was excellent – central yet quiet. I could see the elevated road not too far from my window, but surprisingly, I didn't hear any noise. It was also super convenient, only about a 15-minute drive to Hanshan Temple the next day. My stay at the Hyatt Regency Suzhou far exceeded my expectations. The Executive Lounge, located on the 28th floor, offers spectacular views of Jinji Lake and the 'Big Trousers' (Suzhou IFS) while you enjoy delicious food. The service from the Executive Lounge team, especially Sheila, Delia, Keets, Chisa, and Vivian, was truly remarkable. They were all incredibly polite, warm, and attentive, going above and beyond to meet guests' needs without any hesitation. A thoughtful detail was the Executive Lounge's reception desk being discreetly placed in the corridor, which effectively prevented noise when it was busy – a testament to their meticulous planning. Dining was also excellent. The hot food selection was good and varied, and dishes were replenished promptly. While the breakfast spread wasn't the largest, the tranquil environment and superb views more than made up for it. I specifically chose to stay at Park Hyatt Suzhou and booked the highly anticipated terrace suite. The entire experience was flawless, and I must particularly commend our dedicated butler, Rain! The hotel itself is designed as a three-courtyard Suzhou-style private residence, featuring flowing water and koi ponds, intricately carved corridors – every step reveals a new scenic view. It's an oasis of calm amidst the bustling city, perfectly capturing the essence of Jiangnan charm. Our terrace suite spanned nearly 100 square meters, with one bedroom, one living room, two bathrooms, and a spacious 30-square-meter private terrace. The living room opened directly onto an outdoor viewing area, complete with a sofa and a casual dining table. From the terrace, we had an unobstructed panoramic view of Jinji Lake, with Suzhou's Ferris wheel and the Gate of the Orient clearly visible. Watching the sunset paint the lake in the evening and admiring the city lights at night was incredibly therapeutic, whether we were enjoying afternoon tea or simply relaxing. Every photo taken turned out to be stunning. The soft furnishings in the room were elegant and refined, and the layout was well-designed, with distinct areas for the study, living room, and bedroom. The hardware was impeccable; the mini-bar's welcome fruit platter and beverages were generously provided. What truly elevated our stay was our butler, Rain, whose service was perfectly balanced! Before our arrival, she proactively added me on WeChat and provided information about hotel amenities and the best times for terrace viewing. Upon arrival, she personally accompanied us, explaining the room type and facilities with meticulous care. During our stay, any request or message was met with an instant reply, demonstrating incredibly fast response times. She thoughtfully arranged turn-down service, maintaining a warm and attentive demeanor throughout without being intrusive – gentle yet professional. The hotel breakfast offered a rich variety, including authentic Suzhou-style noodles with toppings, pastries, and a full selection of Chinese and Western hot dishes. The Suzhou cuisine at Xizhou Xuan was authentic, especially the salt-baked tofu, which was delicious! The courtyard afternoon tea had a wonderful ambiance. The heated swimming pool and gym were quiet and comfortable, and it was just a short walk to stroll along Jinji Lake. Both the hardware, the views, and the service were exceptional. The private lake view from the terrace suite was unparalleled, and Butler Rain's thoughtful service truly upgraded our stay. I highly recommend it for couples' getaways and short leisure trips. This place is fantastic! The room is huge, with a living room and kitchen downstairs, and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs (there's also a separate toilet downstairs). It could easily accommodate four people with plenty of space to spare! Outside, there's a massive cold plunge pool and a hot tub. The hot tub is kept warm 24/7, making it incredibly relaxing to soak in! If you come in the summer, you'd be able to swim in the cold pool. 😆 The hotel also offers a variety of free activities, including kayaks. The private waterfront access provides an absolutely stunning spot to watch the sunrise! And if you visit in the summer, you might even get to see the lotus flowers blooming. The shuttle service staff were super friendly and helpful. Our housekeepers, Nancy and Tommy, were also great, providing excellent and prompt service via WeChat. Thank you all! The spacious bathroom with a bathtub is a definite plus, and the stable water pressure and instant hot water in the shower, along with the large window, were the icing on the cake. From the higher floors, you get a fantastic view of the Gusu old town skyline, and the sunset streaming in during the evening was incredibly relaxing. For breakfast, I highly recommend trying the freshly made Suzhou-style stewed pork noodles at the live cooking station – the broth is flavorful, and the noodles have a great bite. As an established hotel, the overall service is exceptionally warm. The staff at the front desk, guest services, and fitness center are all very attentive, thoughtful of guests' needs, and go out of their way to accommodate individual requests.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, I brought my family to stay at Hotel Nikko Suzhou. The hotel is conveniently located in the Huqiu district, right next to Shizishan Metro Station, making transportation easy. There are plenty of dining options nearby. Although the hotel shows its age a bit with slightly dated decor and facilities, it's well-maintained, upholding the standards of a seasoned star-rated hotel. We stayed in an Executive King Room. While the room wasn't large, the view from the 27th floor was excellent, especially the mesmerizing night view. The room has a distinct Japanese style, with efficient use of space throughout, making it convenient and clean. The complimentary afternoon tea and executive lounge benefits were nothing spectacular, but given the reasonable price of the room, we couldn't ask for more. As it's a Nikko hotel, the breakfast is a blend of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. The Chinese-style Suzhou noodles and Japanese curry and rich soups were particularly noteworthy. Finally, regarding the service, the hotel staff were attentive and thoughtful. Jiajia at the front desk was especially enthusiastic and professional during both check-in and check-out. Five-star rating for her!

Cleanliness is consistently good: Rooms are clean, bedding is comfortable, and wet/dry separation is generally well-executed. Most people describe it as 'spotless'. • High value for money: Prices are mostly between 200–400 RMB per night. For a price point comparable to a 3-star hotel, you get European-style decor and a warmly lit lobby. • Standardized service: The front desk is responsive, luggage storage is available, some locations have robots for item delivery, and free parking is offered. • Practical breakfast: Simple Chinese and Western options, including congee/noodles/bread/fruit – enough to fill you up, with some local specialties. • Poor soundproofing (most common complaint): You can clearly hear conversations in the hallway, doors opening and closing, and the TV in the next room. Street-facing rooms will have traffic noise. • Inconsistent facility newness: ◦ New branches (after 2022): Smart room controls, fresh air systems, wood-look flooring, 25–28㎡ rooms. ◦ Older branches: Worn carpets, outdated furniture, limescale on showerheads, slow drains, some rooms without windows/lingering smoke smell. • Inconsistent service: Slow check-in during peak times, some front desk staff can be indifferent, and complaint resolution is average. • Small space: Basic rooms are about 20㎡, making it cramped to move around once luggage is placed. • Smoke/unpleasant odors: Some non-smoking rooms still have a smoke smell, and occasional drain odors.

Inside Tongli Ancient Town Suzhou|20.31km from city center
I am definitely a frequent traveler/stayer/eater, and I have experienced many high-end hotels/boutique B&Bs/boutique restaurants. But this time I want to say: This boutique B&B (inn) is worth my recommendation. 1. The owner of the inn is a famous Suzhou garden designer, so the taste and foundation of the inn are very good. 2. The male and female managers have a good hobby and cultivation of tea art/meditation and meditation, which adds a lot of added value and fun to the inn. 3. In addition to the good breakfast included in the inn, the inn owner will also invite customers to join their private lunch and dinner, which is very authentic Hunan cuisine, which is simply a unique and exquisite dish in Tongli. 4. Warm and warm service and feeling. . . . Of course, other routine services are also very good, so I won’t say more. In short, recommended!

Had a very comfortable stay. The location is super convenient, right by the subway exit. The complimentary black tea upon arrival was very refreshing, and the service was excellent every day.

great little getaway for a night. We used the public hot springs, which had a good few to choose from and wasnt overcrowded. I would recommend to the hotel and other hot spring hotels, that they keep kids from splashing and to use the actual swimming pool even if its cold. Guests come to relax. Not to participate in hot spring kids swimming lessons. But everything else was good. There was also no restaurant available. We were taken on a short walk out of the hotel to a restaurant which seemed to be the only thing available. We only really went for the hot springs and luckily we had a private one that we could finally relax in. Would recommend.
