Badaling Outlets: Luxury on the Way to the Great Wall

This is Beijing's flagship luxury outlet, in Nankou Town in Changping District, on the road to the Badaling section of the Great Wall. It was developed by the Beijing Hualian Group, the same high-end retail group behind SKP, and in 2025 a majority stake was acquired by a Boyu Capital affiliate that also holds SKP, so the brand roster is one of the strongest in the country. It is in Changping, not Yanqing, despite the name.

• How to get there: Changping line to Changping Xishankou, the terminus, then the outlet's free shuttle for the last 3 miles or so. Taxi from the centre takes about an hour and costs roughly $21 to $28 (¥150 to ¥200). Free shopping shuttles also run from city points such as Guomao, Anzhen, Xierqi and Tiantongyuan, mostly on weekends and holidays.
• Brands: around 300, including Prada, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Celine, Fendi, Loro Piana, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Moncler, Ferragamo, Loewe and Dolce & Gabbana, alongside Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Puma, HOKA, Snow Peak and Burton.
• Discounts: typically 30 to 70 percent, with deeper cuts on clearance collections during anniversary and holiday events.
• Hours: 09:30 to 21:00 from March to November; in winter, 10:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 09:30 to 21:00 at weekends. Holidays usually run to 21:30.

WellTown (Wanli): Beijing's Newest and Largest Outlet

WellTown, part of the Wanli complex in Tongzhou, opened in December 2025 and is now the largest outlet in Beijing, with close to 190,000 square metres of retail space. The wider Wanli development covers about 500,000 square metres and includes a retail street, an art and entertainment zone and a five-star hotel with a sky pool overlooking Universal Studios. Around 40 percent of the outlet's space is given over to restaurants, entertainment and art installations, which makes it a full-day destination for families rather than a quick shopping stop.

• How to get there: Lines 1 (Batong) and 7 to Huazhuang, exit D, with direct access from the M level. It is one metro stop, about four minutes, from Universal Studios Beijing, or one stop on bus 589. Walking from the theme park is not recommended, because security fencing turns it into a 40 to 50 minute detour.
• Brands: more than 500, including Coach, Vivienne Westwood, Bally, UGG, the largest Nike UNITE format in the city, an Adidas flagship and dozens of youth labels.
• Discounts: permanent past-season reductions plus regular seasonal promotions; as a new mall, the depth varies by brand, so check in store.
• Parking: over 4,200 spaces, with two hours free for loyalty programme members.
• Tax refund: not yet on the instant-refund list as far as I could verify, so ask at the information desk. Beijing's city-wide refund system still lets you claim at another refund point.

Wangfujing Xiangjiang Outlets (赛特) — A European Village by the Metro

The closest "European village" to the centre, in Chaoyang District, where each shop occupies its own house with a tiled roof. Since 2023 the complex has been called Wangfujing Outlets Xiangjiang; it was previously known as Scitech. Don't confuse it with Surprise Outlets — they are two different outlets in different districts.

• How to get there: metro Line 15 to Maquanying (马泉营), exit B — the entrance to the outlet is right at the station.
• Brands: more than 200 labels, including PRADA, BURBERRY, ARMANI, COACH, MaxMara, Nike and Adidas.

Yansha Outlets (燕莎) — Budget Shopping in Central Beijing

China's first outlet, opened back in 2002. Yansha is located inside the city, in Chaoyang District, and remains the most affordable of Beijing's large outlets.

• How to get there: buses 30, 34 and 601 to Qijiahuozi. From Beigongda Ximen station (Line 14) it is about a 1.2 km walk, roughly 0.75 miles.
• Brands: three buildings — A (European labels, business fashion), B (Nike, Adidas, The North Face, sports footwear), C (international brands and restaurants).
• Discounts: some of the most affordable prices on sportswear and footwear among the city's outlets.

Surprise Outlets (斯普瑞斯 / Surprise Outlets) — Designer Shopping Near the Airport

An outlet in Spanish neoclassical style, located in Chaoyang District not far from Capital Airport. It is convenient if you have spare time before or after a flight. Don't confuse Surprise Outlets with Xiangjiang (formerly Scitech) — they are different outlets.

• How to get there: public transport is inconvenient — by taxi from the centre it takes about 30 minutes.
• Brands: Lane Crawford, D&G, self-portrait, Nike, Adidas, LEGO (children's store).
• Discounts: from 30 percent, and up to 80 percent during sales.

Every outlet in this guide runs permanent discounts of 30 to 70 percent on current lines, with previous seasons going deeper, and some clearance items falling further still. Certain periods push prices lower again.

Weekday visits are the single easiest way to improve a shopping trip here. The discounts do not change, but the queues and the noise do.

Beijing Outlets Tax Refunds for Foreign Visitors

Foreign visitors can reclaim part of the purchase price when leaving China. The nominal refund rate is 11 percent, and after a 2 percent handling fee you get back roughly 9 percent. Spend ¥1,000, about $139, and you receive around ¥90, or about $13.

Conditions

• Minimum spend: ¥200, about $28, in a single store on a single day. This threshold was lowered from ¥500 in April 2025.
• Goods must be unused and unopened, and must leave China within 90 days of purchase. Keep items in their packaging.
• Purchases must be made at a store displaying the Tax Free sign, and you need the refund application form plus the receipt and your passport.
• Cash refunds are capped at ¥20,000, about $2,800, up from the previous ¥10,000 limit. Anything above that is paid by bank transfer with no cap.

How to Claim

1. Buy at a Tax Free store and ask for the refund application form, showing your passport and receipt.
2. Choose how to collect: at the store if it offers instant refund, at one of the city refund points, or at the Tax Refund counter at Capital Airport or Daxing Airport before you go through customs.
3. Keep the passport, receipts and unopened goods with you until the customs check is complete.

Which Beijing Outlets Offer Instant Refunds

The refund system has also become easier in the last couple of years. Beijing now allows city-wide refunds, so you can collect at any of the refund points or participating stores rather than only where you bought the item. Alipay supports a QR-based refund process that takes about two minutes, and the online retailer JD.com runs China's first online departure tax refund service, delivering eligible goods to Beijing hotels with refund counters on site.

Practical Tips for Shopping at Beijing Outlets

• Payment: Alipay and WeChat Pay work everywhere. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in most stores but not all. Russian Mir cards do not work in China, so link a Visa or Mastercard to Alipay before you travel.
• Navigation: save the Chinese names of the outlets and show them to taxi drivers, since English names are not always recognised.
• Check goods carefully before buying. Outlets sell previous-season stock and display samples, and faults are more common than in full-price stores.
• Allow a full day for Badaling, WellTown and Capital Outlets Fangshan, and half a day for the city outlets such as Yansha and Xiangjiang Town.
• Opening hours are generally from 09:30 or 10:00 until 21:00 or 22:00, with variations by season, so check before you set out.
• Bring your passport. You need it for the tax refund process and occasionally for card payments.
• If you are heading to Badaling, check the free shuttle times from Changping Xishankou in advance, because the last shuttle back matters more than the first one out.
