A beautiful panda conservation and study center. A must-see if you're in Chengdu. I recommend arriving when the park opens to see the active pandas.

Chengdu pandas were the place I spent the most time researching for on this trip. Wearing my panda plushie to see the pandas was incredibly fun and fulfilling. After all, my parents are busy supporting the family, so I had to grow up and complete my list of must-sees. My plan was to visit the Moon Nursery, Sun Nursery, and the Villa Area, which should allow me to see about 70-80% of the pandas. I got up too early and went to the Star Nursery first, where I accidentally saw pandas under 50cm tall that could even climb trees! I also saw pandas eating bamboo leaves up close! I truly believe that pandas, like the aurora borealis, are a must-see in one's lifetime!

Many pandas are behind glass, making it hard to see. Those in open enclosures are usually far away, somewhere in the greenery, and hard to see, especially for a child. And then there are the millions of tourists.

is giant park, try to go with time, Don't use a bike to get to the site after the subway because it's out of the area 🤠, you can take a bus or walk if you're young

Summer visits (June–August) require early arrival (before 8:00 AM) to beat heat (pandas retreat indoors above 26°C). Panda Breeding & Conservation at Chengdu Base

Panda Breeding & Conservation at Chengdu Base

The base is a global leader in giant panda breeding, with a 90% success rate in captive breeding. Key conservation efforts include:

  • Cub Rearing: Newborn pandas are cared for in nurseries (mothers often raise one cub, while the other is hand-reared to ensure survival). Cubs stay in nurseries until they’re 1–2 years old, when they move to adult villas.
  • Wildness Training: Selected pandas undergo training in the base’s “Panda Valley” (a separate facility) to prepare for potential reintroduction to the wild.
  • Research Collaboration: The base partners with international organizations (e.g., WWF) to study panda genetics, diet, and habitat protection—helping to increase the wild panda population from 1,114 (1988) to over 1,800 today.

As a husband and a father, I don’t just look for comfort—I look for peace of mind. This hotel delivered both. Service was fast, thoughtful, and genuinely warm. Everything was clean, organized, and effortless, which matters when you’re traveling with family. The environment feels premium yet welcoming, not stiff. My family felt safe, relaxed, and well taken care of from the moment we arrived. Location is a huge win—surrounded by some of the best food Chengdu has to offer, with easy access everywhere. This isn’t just a place to sleep. It’s a place where a family can truly rest. Classy, reliable, and worth every cent.

We returned to stay in this hotel after our trip to Jiuzhaigou. Check in again was smooth. Upgraded to a suite in 14th floor, the room was spacious, clean and beddings comfortable. I called housekeeping for a firm pillow, and immediately a wheat pillow was delivered. We requested a knife to cut fruits, again Leo Li from the restaurant delivered personally to the room. Kudos to Leo, Christina of the front counter, and the housekeeping staff, as well as the helpful concierges. Overall this hotel never disappoints, and is certainly as good as any best 5 star hotel that we have stayed.

I recently stayed at the Grand ParcVue Hotel Residence Chengdu for a day, and it was the highlight of my trip! The location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of the city near Tianfu Square and just a 5-minute walk to the Jinjiang Hotel Metro Station. The room was massive and felt like a luxury apartment, complete with a full kitchen and a washer/dryer, which was a lifesaver for a quick traveler! I spent my morning at the gorgeous indoor pool and grabbed a delicious breakfast at Vinos before heading out. The staff were incredibly attentive and even helped me with local tips. The hotel is centrally located, making it extremely convenient to get around. From the moment I arrived, the staff were exceptionally warm and attentive, greeting me at every step of the check-in process. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. What truly set this stay apart was the thoughtful personal touch. Abin from Guest Relations (I believe his Chinese name is Li Kai) left me a handwritten note along with a small gift, which was a very pleasant and meaningful surprise. The housekeeping staff also wrote a kind note for me—unfortunately, I was unable to recognize his name from the note, but the gesture itself was deeply appreciated. These small yet sincere acts made me feel genuinely warm, special, and truly welcomed. This level of care reflects the high standards and heartfelt hospitality that The Ritz-Carlton is known for.

Yulin Life Plaza and Tongzilin commercial area Chengdu|4.31km from city center
The location is great, very close to Tongzilin subway station. Line 1 goes directly to Wenshu Monastery and Chengdu South Station, which is super convenient. The hotel has a constant-temperature swimming pool and a warm-water soaking pool. I went twice and had them almost to myself, which was fantastic for a family of three who love to swim. The room isn't huge, but it's clean and sufficient, and the TV supports screen mirroring, which is very handy. There are two minor points that aren't exactly flaws: 1. The hallway scent in the hotel is a bit too strong. 2. Even with the AC/heater off, the duvet was still too warm; taking it off made it cold, which was a bit awkward.

I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out to the front desk team at Chengdu Anyi Xinliang Hotel! Their service was the warmest highlight of my trip. During check-in, the sweet-smiling receptionist was not only super efficient but also proactively upgraded me to a quiet room on a higher floor. She even hand-drew a map, marking local hidden food gems and the nearest subway station. When I came back late one night and asked if they had a band-aid, the night staff immediately got some from their first-aid kit and thoughtfully gave me a few extra. The next day, after check-out, as my flight was late, a front desk lady proactively offered free luggage storage and invited us to enjoy tea in the lounge area, even kindly informing us about the changing weather. They consistently anticipated guests' needs, and their genuine care went far beyond standard procedures. They truly turned ”a home away from home” from a slogan into a tangible Chengdu memory. Because of this heartwarming service, the hotel has become much more than just a place to stay in my mind.

This InterContinental hotel maintains a high international standard. I had booked it for three consecutive days and was planning to leave, but then my friend decided to visit Chengdu too, so I canceled my tickets and took a taxi back to stay here again. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and the amenities were excellent. Upon check-in, we received complimentary fruit and children's toiletries. They have a laundry room, which was incredibly convenient after being on the road for half a month; my clothes were washed and dried in just ten minutes. The breakfast greeters were also very friendly, proactively offering baby utensils and asking if we'd like egg custard. High chairs were available. The variety of food was extensive and delicious. The room was clean and hygienic. There are many restaurants right downstairs, and Chunxi Road is about a one-kilometer walk away, offering a nice stroll with plenty to see along the way.

This is my third trip to Chengdu, and this time I came with friends. We chose to visit before the students went on winter break, so the price hadn't inflated yet, around 200 RMB per night, which was super comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located directly across from Wenshu Monastery subway station's E exit. Just be prepared for a bit of a walk once you're down in the subway station. It's about 3 kilometers from here to IFS Taikoo Li, so getting around is really easy. For this stay, I booked a room with a bathtub and bought a bath bomb – the aroma was heavenly, so incredibly relaxing, haha! This hotel will definitely be a top choice for my next visit to Chengdu.

I'm not sure if the negative reviews are from competitors trying to badmouth them. This is my third stay here, and after comparing many places, I still prefer this one. The front desk service is excellent; they knew I was traveling alone with two kids and immediately switched us to a room with a view of 'pandas climbing the wall.' The room was very clean, and the bathroom had a separate wet and dry area. They cleaned the room daily and restocked water and drinks. The shower isn't a hot water heater type; there's hot water 24 hours a day. The breakfast is varied and delicious. Chunxi Road is right downstairs, which is very convenient. When I came in winter, the floor heating kept the room warm, not cold at all. Highly recommend!

Jiuyan Bridge/Sichuan University Area Chengdu|2.5km from city center
Having been thoroughly impressed by the food and service at the Horizon Club of Shangri-La Hotel on my last visit, I didn't hesitate to choose Shangri-La Chengdu again for this trip. Firstly, a big thank you to Ms. Lu, who was previously the Horizon Club manager and has now been promoted to Front Office Manager. Her warmth and helpfulness in securing a satisfactory room for us, along with complimentary fruit and local Sichuan snacks, and arranging a late check-out, set a wonderful tone for our entire journey. Strategically located near Jiuyan Bridge and the famous Lan Kwai Fong bar street, the hotel boasts a vibrant atmosphere and unbeatable night views. However, it's a bit of a distance from the nearest metro station. The Horizon Club's 'Happy Hour' offerings are incredibly diverse and plentiful, almost like a mini-buffet, with the cakes and desserts being particularly delightful. On the other hand, breakfast was relatively simple with fewer options. My beloved handmade steamed buns weren't as tasty as before, and they felt cold, possibly having sat out for too long, which affected the texture. I'm not sure why the brown sugar glutinous rice cakes (hongtang ciba) were soft throughout, lacking their usual crispy exterior. The Eggs Benedict were inconsistent; on the second morning, the egg was overcooked with no runny yolk, just a solid egg yolk, and the accompanying bread was unappetizing. Furthermore, the egg tarts were cold and not kept under a heat lamp, and the bread station seemed to lack even basic items like muffins, which felt a bit perfunctory. Restaurant management might need some improvement; during breakfast, I noticed a whole stack of plates still had water marks, indicating they hadn't been dried properly. Nevertheless, the service staff at the Horizon Club were excellent – friendly, courteous, quick to clear dishes, attentive to guests' needs, and particularly Ms. Liu Chun, the current Horizon Club manager, who was constantly busy, very dedicated and responsible. I also checked out the coffee shop on the ground floor. While the selection of dishes was indeed more extensive, it was also very crowded and noisy. The staff member who greeted us was still very enthusiastic despite knowing we were just looking around, though some other staff members appeared cold and unresponsive. Room service was excellent – very responsive and quick to fulfill requests. When they learned we needed to air out clothes, they thoughtfully brought a drying rack, which was a very considerate touch! Room maintenance was also good, with an automatic toilet and a Dyson hairdryer. The gym isn't open 24 hours; it closes after 11 PM, and guests cannot access it with their room cards after hours, which felt a bit restrictive for those wanting to work out later. In summary, this stay brought both joy and disappointment. I hope the hotel continues to improve and enhance its services, ensuring its long-term success and continued excellence.

The hotel breakfast had a great variety, including hot dishes, pastries, and drinks, and everything tasted delicious – it was really pleasant to start the day with such a good meal. The gym was well-equipped and perfectly adequate for my daily workouts, plus it was very clean. The self-service laundry room was incredibly useful; being able to wash and quickly dry my clothes during a business trip for a few days was so convenient. This hotel is a hidden gem for family trips! We booked it for three nights during our 5-day Chengdu itinerary, and both rooms were incredibly spacious and comfortable. It's right next to a subway station, making transportation super convenient – a perfect 10 in that regard. The only minor downside is that taxis can get stuck in traffic during peak hours. What I loved most is being able to walk to Taikoo Li; no need to squeeze onto buses or subways, making shopping and dining so enjoyable! The hotel's cleanliness was impeccable; both the hallways and rooms were spotless, and the cleaning staff were very considerate. The breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options, and we enjoyed something different every day. Both adults and children loved it. I just completed a three-day business trip at your hotel, and as I check out, I couldn't help but write this positive review to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude. My stay far exceeded my expectations, truly making me feel 'at home' with its warmth and professionalism. First and foremost, the hotel's location is incredibly convenient, offering quick access to various business hubs in the High-tech Zone and the city center. The lobby design is elegant and grand, and the rooms are spacious and bright. The bedding is comfortable, and the facilities are well-maintained, looking brand new and smart, providing a perfect sanctuary for my busy schedule. However, what impressed me the most and sealed my decision to choose your hotel again in the future is your staff, especially HEDDA. Her enthusiasm truly helped alleviate my travel fatigue. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Chengdu. I have already recommended your hotel to my colleagues and look forward to my next stay.

Five-star recommendation! The InterContinental Chengdu Global Center is a reassuring choice for elderly travelers. I booked the InterContinental Chengdu Global Center for three elderly family members. They had just finished their Jiuzhaigou trip and had raved about their stay at the InterContinental Jiuzhaigou Paradise. I didn't expect this Chengdu property to offer an equally outstanding experience! The hotel is located at No. 1736, North Section of Tianfu Avenue, High-tech Zone, within the landmark Global Center building. With its glass dome, giant crystal chandeliers, and a spacious, high-ceilinged lobby that blends Mediterranean charm with oceanic elements, it's incredibly grand. The elders were full of praise the moment they walked in. The service was simply impeccable, attentive and considerate to the core. Traveling with three elderly individuals often comes with inconveniences, but no matter how big or small the request, the staff responded promptly and resolved issues efficiently. A special shout-out to our butler, Coco, who was incredibly responsive and always there to help, from guiding us through check-in to providing travel advice. She thought of everything, making our elders feel completely at ease. The guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the surrounding transportation is very convenient, with a subway station within walking distance. The amenities are also excellent. Both InterContinental Paradise hotels delivered a perfect experience. This is definitely a top choice for family trips and for elders traveling. I've already recommended it to friends and family, and we'll definitely stay here again on our next visit to Chengdu!

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport/Airport flower field Chengdu|10.29km from city center
An incredibly convenient airport transit option with surprisingly easy access! I chose this hotel to catch an early morning flight, and its convenience was off the charts—the subway station is right outside the door, so I could just walk a few steps with my luggage to the station without having to search for it in the sun. Even better, it's incredibly close to the airport. I pre-booked the hotel's airport shuttle service, and it only took about ten minutes to get to the passenger terminal. No need to get up in the dark to rush to my destination in the morning—it's so convenient for people catching flights! The room was clean and tidy, and the price was great. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I have an early morning flight!

Dujiangyan|19.39km from city center
First of all I’ll mention that the setting was very beautiful and the rooms were wonderful. The staff were friendly and tried their best to help and make us comfortable. They went out of their way to cater to our restricted diet as well . The issues I had were the location (mostly 1.5 hours to get anywhere. Sometimes longer with traffic) and the language barrier. I can’t fault them on the language but I believe I had a lot of missed opportunities because of it (?). But if you plan on doing any activities near the city center then I would I suggest you book a different hotel and keep this one for after you are done just to relax with the beautiful scenery. My kids felt car sick every drive back to the hotel. I also felt I wasted time because of the drive when I could have used it more productively. So bottom line, would I go back? Definitely. But not if my goal is to explore the city

Qingcheng Piedmont Scenic Area Dujiangyan|10.45km from city center
From a Singapore traveller. Z Hotel at Mount Qingcheng is a newly opened property, and the cleanliness is absolutely top-notch. The rooms and common areas are spotless and very well maintained. The service deserves special mention. The front counter staff, Miss Ma and her colleague on duty, provided truly world-class service. They were warm, friendly, and always willing to help, offering valuable advice and thoughtful recommendations that made our stay much more pleasant and convenient. Although the hotel is slightly away from the main Mount Qingcheng city area, this turns out to be one of its greatest strengths. The location offers a sense of serenity and tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere. The hotel overlooks the beautiful Qingcheng Mountain, and the surroundings are peaceful, green, and calming—perfect for travelers seeking rest, relaxation, and a connection with nature. Didi transport is convenient and drivers know the hotel location without difficulty. Overall, Z Hotel is an excellent choice for those who appreciate cleanliness, attentive service, and a quiet retreat near Mount Qingcheng.

I really enjoyed my stay at Sungold Designer Hotel in Chengdu. The hotel has a modern, stylish design, and the room was comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully set up. I appreciated the small details that made the stay feel more relaxing and well cared for. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, which made check-in and any requests very easy. One of the biggest highlights was the location — it’s conveniently situated near major shopping and dining areas, making it easy to get around and explore the city. Overall, Sungold Designer Hotel offers great value for a comfortable and well-designed stay.

Wenshu Monastery/Longhu Shangcheng Sky Street Chengdu|2km from city center
I booked the nearest hotel when I came to Wenshu Monastery to worship Buddha. Before booking, I was a bit worried about the environment and the room after reading some reviews. However, after checking in, I found my worries were unnecessary. Although the room is in an old building, the details inside still show thoughtfulness. The air conditioning was already turned up warm when I entered, the bedding was clean and tidy, and the pillows were high-pressure elastic pillows (this is very important!). The toilet even had disposable seat covers. The room's arrangement made me feel at ease as soon as I walked in. Finding such a peaceful place so close to Wenshu Monastery, I'll definitely be back next time!

Tianfu Square/Chengdu Museum Chengdu|1.04km from city center
The hotel is a time-honored venue that has long symbolized luxury in my hometown of Chengdu. While many newer, more modern hotels have come to the city, I still choose to stay at the Jingjiang Hotel because of my childhood fantasies about it. The hotel did not disappoint, offering an excellent environment and particularly outstanding service. Although we had a little drama—I was allocated a room right opposite the elevator despite requesting one away from it during my online booking—the hotel compensated me with a cute apology gift pack. I cannot recommend this historical accommodation enough. You will definitely appreciate its deeply cultured atmosphere and the lovely staff members.

Our stay was absolutely amazing! From the thoughtful welcome when we walked in, to the spotlessly clean room, every detail showed how much care was put in. The bedding was so soft and comfortable, the bathroom was clean and odor-free, and all the amenities were complete and worked perfectly. The butler service staff were incredibly warm and attentive, always there when we needed something but also knew when to give us space. The whole experience was fantastic, and the value for money is unbeatable. We'll definitely be back!

Business District/The area around the Twin Towers Chengdu|8.34km from city center
The W Chengdu is my top pick when traveling with parents. First off, the location is fantastic, right next to the Twin Towers, which have a light show every night at 7 PM. My parents and I watched it after dinner both nights. Dining and shopping are incredibly convenient nearby; there's Ma Wang Zi Sichuan Cuisine downstairs and Li Shan Shan Bubble Tea across the street. The hotel also has direct access to a shopping mall with a Hema supermarket, making grocery runs super easy without even needing a taxi. As for the stay itself, the hotel's guest relations team was professional, warm, and attentive. The room design is modern and minimalist, with very new facilities. The breakfast spread was also excellent. The W Hotel isn't just for young people anymore; my parents really enjoyed their stay too. I'll definitely choose to stay here again next time.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. I booked 2 rooms with 2 double beds in each room for 5 adults and a child. We were all very impressed with this hotel, the rooms were very spacious, clean and well equipped. I'd say the photos don't do the room justice. The hotel has an entire floor for the gym. It's very well equipped with machines, boxing area, weights and at least two studios for classes. There was a class timetable outside one of the studios. I used the pool, jacuzzi and the steam room. Our room rate included buffet breakfast which had a good spread. The staff I dealt with were all great. We would definitely stay here again next we visit Chengdu. The boys loved the facilities and the buffet breakfast.

I would highly recommend this hotel. 1. Personally, I am not used to Sichuan food and the breakfast really has a very good variety for those international tourists and their own internal tourists. Very good selection of different type of bread, pastries, Chinese cooked food, Sichuan noodles (live station), salads, porridges. I look forward to breakfast every single morning. 2. The staff are very polite, gentle, friendly and towards elderly people they are very respectful. 3. The room was very spacious. The toilet is huge too. Clean. The shower area, they are very considerate to put an anti-slip mat. 4. There are plenty of local food to try just around the hotel. Not sure where is the metro station as it was very affordable to get their DiDi. 5. The hotel has a Cantonese restaurant that serves good Cantonese food and dim sum.

Upon arrival, I was informed that the room I booked was windowless. I might have overlooked this when booking, but the front desk staff proactively helped us switch to a room with a window facing the back street. Overall, it offers great value for money. The breakfast isn't a buffet; you have to pre-order a set meal the night before via a WeChat mini-program, but it was still quite good and plentiful. The location is also convenient for a chain hotel. Definitely recommended.

I booked this hotel for my trip, and the location is fantastic – right in the city center with tons of dining options nearby. There's even a decent hotpot place right by the subway entrance. The staff here are incredibly thoughtful and responsible. As someone new to the area, they were always ready to answer any questions I had, making for a truly wonderful experience. The rooms are spotlessly clean. It was really heartwarming to be greeted so warmly by the cleaning staff in the hallway every time – it genuinely felt like a home away from home. The front desk team was also incredibly thoughtful. They even offer a laundry service, washing and drying clothes if you're too busy sightseeing, and folded everything neatly in a basket – a truly thoughtful touch. There's also complimentary self-service freshly ground coffee in the lobby, and a cup before heading out in the morning is just what you need to feel refreshed. All in all, I had a very comfortable stay, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Chengdu.

FAQs about Chengdu Panda Base

  • Is the Chengdu Panda Base worth visiting?

Yes—It’s the best place to see giant pandas up close, learn about conservation, and meet famous pandas like Hua Hua. The well-maintained habitats and educational exhibits make it a memorable experience for all ages.
  • Which is the best panda base in Chengdu?

Chengdu Panda Base is the most convenient (closest to downtown) and popular for seeing cubs and famous pandas. Dujiangyan Panda Base offers panda “keeper experiences” (e.g., cleaning enclosures), while Wolong Panda Base is in a more natural mountain setting (2 hours from Chengdu).
  • Is it better to go to Chengdu Panda Base in the morning or afternoon?

Morning (7:30–10:00 AM) is better—pandas are more active, and crowds are smaller. Afternoons are hotter (pandas retreat indoors) and busier, but quieter for visiting the museum.
  • How long to spend at Dujiangyan Panda Base?

Plan 3–4 hours—Dujiangyan offers more interactive experiences (e.g., panda keeper programs) and a more scenic, less crowded setting than Chengdu Panda Base.
  • Which is better: Dujiangyan or Wolong Panda Base?

Dujiangyan is better for interactive experiences (keeper programs) and convenience (1 hour from Chengdu). Wolong is better for a natural, remote setting (2 hours from Chengdu) and seeing pandas in semi-wild habitats—ideal for nature lovers.
  • Can I hug a baby panda at Chengdu Panda Base?

No—Chengdu Panda Base does not offer panda-hugging to protect the cubs’ health and reduce stress. However, you can book “keeper experiences” at Dujiangyan Panda Base (for a fee) to interact with pandas (e.g., feeding, cleaning enclosures)—advance booking is required.
