Founded in 1987, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a world-leading center for panda conservation, scientific research, and eco-tourism. Spanning 3.07 square kilometers in northern Chengdu (10km from downtown), it’s home to over 200 giant pandas and red pandas, including adorable cubs in dedicated nurseries.

Centrally located in Chunxi Road, this was the earliest and most upscale five-star hotel back in the day, a very prestigious spot for coffee. It used to attract many tour groups from abroad, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. As a five-star benchmark under Sichuan Hotel, its expansion is somewhat limited due to the prime location. The gym is nice, though the swimming pool is a bit small. Upon check-in, they kindly gave us a coffee voucher and a complimentary room upgrade with a view of Chengdu's high-rise skyline. The breakfast meets five-star standards—the restaurant is very spacious with a great view, and the surrounding facilities and businesses are constantly upgrading. 🍬 Location: At first, I thought Taikoo Li was right downstairs, but it's actually a few hundred meters from the nearest metro station (Tianfu Square). Normally, it wouldn't be considered far. But since I'm pretty lazy, I only took the metro on the first day to avoid traffic—after that, I just took cabs everywhere.
🍬 Ambiance & Facilities: Everything was very clean and quiet, from the 1st-floor lobby and the 8th-floor check-in area to the pool/gym on the 10th floor and the guest room floors.
🍬 Overall Service: Every staff member I encountered was extremely pleasant, including the 1st-floor concierge, who provided top-notch service.
🍬 Sleep Quality: I absolutely loved the bed and pillows; I slept great every night. There was zero noise, and with the curtains drawn, the room was pitch-black even in broad daylight.

Choosing to spend the weekend in Chengdu at The Ritz-Carlton was a fantastic decision. First of all, the room was clean and comfortable: the toilet was exceptionally nice with a heated seat and automatic flush; the hot water in the shower was wonderful; and the entire bathroom was impeccably spotless, down to the gaps in the mirror frames and wall tiles. The bedding was extremely comfortable, and I slept very well both nights. Service-wise, the doormen, butler, front desk, and lobby staff were all extremely polite, which made for a great experience. Turn left out of the hotel and you'll find the famous Shanghai Michelin soup dumplings. The surrounding area has a vibrant local atmosphere, and it's just a pleasant 20-minute walk to Taikoo Li—offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. The lobby is huge and clean, the single room also huge and comfortable. The breakfast variety is good for 4* rated hotel with noodle/salad/pastry station and hot dishes like Thai chicken curry, fried mixed vegetable etc, good breakfast to start the day.
The staffs are helpful but might hv some difficulty to understand some crucial request. I asked for no room clean but need water bottles and ended up getting none. I very like the carpetted room but I found few strains of hair left, the housekeepers could do abit more hard vacuum during cleaning I guess. Others were spotless.
There a lot of eateries and shops around the hotel and this is very convenient for guests. The local post office is nearby for someone love to postcross too. Very recommend this hotel for all travellers coming to Chengdu.FromCAD 38

The hotel provides a welcome drink, but since the staff doesn't speak English, it's best not to set high expectations. The Chinese breakfast was easy to enjoy, and the breakfast staff were lovely and helpful despite the language barrier. Overall, it was okay, but I probably wouldn't stay here again. Even without being asked to leave a good review, this is a hotel I’m more than happy to spend time writing about. In terms of human touch and service standards, I believe it outperforms 90% of hotels in China priced over 1,000 RMB (my personal subjective view). My rating for this stay: Solid.
The location is indeed prime—Chunxi Road is just a 10-minute walk away. The hotel decor is decent, but it is definitely showing its age, which I must point out. The shower system is very poorly designed, you can tell the TV cabinet is quite old, and the two sofas were not thoroughly cleaned—they really need a deep machine clean. I have extremely sensitive skin; after sitting for just 15 minutes, my body started to itch, and the two desk chairs show years of heavy use. The texture of the body lotion can only be described as bizarre—it is completely unspreadable. I was genuinely shocked by how terrible a body lotion could be, leaving streaks of white that just won't absorb. The surrounding street environment is admittedly mediocre, and the uneven paving stones at Evergrande Plaza feel like stepping on landmines, which is a bit disappointing, though completely unrelated to the hotel itself.
But! Why do I still think it was worth it? This stay truly gave me a rare experience of the professional caliber of hotel staff in China. When staying at hotels in China, I’ve grown accustomed to encountering clueless staff who act like you owe them money, brush you off with excuses, or put on awkward, fake-smiling masks. However, the service staff at The St. Regis Chengdu are genuinely warm, professional, and sincere. The female front desk agent who checked us in, the young man who helped us move our luggage when we requested a room change, the female staff member who came to our room to assist us (was she Thai, I wonder?), the doormen who assisted us with getting in and out of vehicles and the hotel every single time, and the housekeeping staff whom we didn't cross paths with much but showed great tact and respect for privacy—I could not pick a single flaw! From a service standpoint, I genuinely felt at home, and this kind of service experience is definitely not something faked with forced smiles. Moreover, I must give a massive shoutout to the doorman from Bangladesh: his Mandarin was fluent, his movements sharp, and his service enthusiastic and proactive yet perfectly measured. From the afternoon when we headed out to when we saw him again returning to the hotel at night, this young man maintained his dedication and passion for his work every single moment. I could truly feel his respect and enthusiasm for his job. Thank you to him for ensuring we were in such a cheerful mood every time we headed out to explore or checked out to leave.
I also want to thank all the dedicated, sharp, patient, and passionate staff at The St. Regis Chengdu who served us during this trip. My companion and I completely agree that if we visit Chengdu again, we will definitely choose to stay at The St. Regis.FromCAD 174

First off, my room was upgraded from Block D to Block E. While it's a bit further from the Ocean Park, it's still a very short walk. Plus, there's a hotel shuttle that runs between the lobby, Ocean Park, and the rooms, so no matter where you stay, it's perfectly fine. I also chatted with customer service manager Mr. Zhao about a 1-hour late check-out, and that was arranged smoothly. If you're two adults and one child, they offer a complimentary children's breakfast upon check-in, but you'll need to purchase an extra Ocean Park ticket for the child. This time, my kid spent two full days in the water. We checked in at 1:30 PM on the first day, had a quick rest, then changed into swimsuits and headed straight to Ocean Park. We played from 2:30 PM until 7 PM. On the second day, after breakfast, we changed back into our swimsuits and played until 2 PM, then came back, showered, and checked out. I came to Chengdu for some work, and by the way, I looked at the May Day holiday to bring my children to play. I checked the place in advance, did a lot of strategies, and looked at many hotels. Finally, I chose this one. I didn’t expect it to be quite satisfactory. The hotel room facilities are very smart and convenient to use. The hotel location is also very good. The front desk lady also enthusiastically introduced the nearby snack routes and attractions. There are also small labels, which are very convenient for us to carry. It is a very thoughtful hotel! The design style of the hotel is mainly guitar, which has a holiday style. It feels cozy and comfortable. We both like it very much. We have also booked to bring our children here on May Day.

An amazing, serene, quiet stay like no other.
Don't get me wrong. 4 stars for location only because it is a little remote. It was not easy to geta Didi to go there, and we had a bit of difficulty to book a Didi leaving this beautiful heavenly resort.
We arrived this beautiful homestay quite late, having spent the day in Chengdu. Didi ride was almost an hour+.
Dinner was fabulous - simple, yet complex with mountain mushrooms in a hot pot. Accommodating even though the kitchen was closing due to our time of arrival.
This place certainly did not disappoint. From the quietness of the streams, to the beautiful, tranquil rooms and evoked a sense of harmony and serenity with nature, we felt so at home. We basked in silence of the bamboo that spoke to themselves, and the running waters through the gentle streams.
Both the service staff (names as shown - in Mandarin) were excellent and they always wore smiles as lasting as the QingCheng mountains. Service par excellence - nothing less. Thank you for taking care of us, with sincerity and gentleness as the mountains itself.

Ever since I received such warm assistance from the Shangri-La during the pandemic, I've chosen this hotel every time I visit Chengdu. Although the hotel is a bit older, all its facilities are very well-maintained. The gym has a full range of high-quality equipment, and the changing rooms offer both steam and dry saunas, as well as a hot tub, definitely meeting a five-star standard. Towels are always plentiful. Housekeeping is punctual every day, and there's even a turn-down service between 6 and 7 PM. I find the breakfast quite good, with a variety of options including Japanese cuisine. The location is also excellent; for younger, more energetic guests, the Lan Kwai Fong bar street is just 100 meters to the right of the hotel. It's young, stylish, trendy, and full of vibrant energy – luxurious without being 'old money,' high-end yet incredibly chic. Every restaurant has its own unique background music, and every staff member radiates a youthful glow.
The breakfast selection is quite rich, featuring handmade Dan Dan noodles and 'chaoshou' (Sichuan wontons), as well as pan-fried buns, all of which are delicious. They offer three different Haagen-Dazs ice cream flavors daily, and the rum raisin and macadamia nut flavors are particularly good. The bread offered at breakfast is also exceptionally tasty, with classics like almond croissants, floss bread, and muffin cupcakes.

I really enjoyed the stay in the hotel! Everyone were super keen to help and the hotel room itself was really clean no weird smells and spacious.
The location is quiet and nice. 5 min walk from the metro and there are bikes parked right outside so you can ride wherever. There’s only one washing machine but they were completely ok with my delayed checkout due to waiting to the dryer to end.

We drove to Chengdu, and since there are traffic restrictions based on license plates, having a parking lot at this hotel was incredibly convenient. The security guard was also very kind and welcoming. The front desk staff was diligent and responsible. The room wasn't huge, but it was very elegant, and the bedding was super comfortable. There are lots of great food options nearby, and it's really close to Chunxi Road. If you want to go to Sanxingdui, you can just take a bus from Chunxi Road. Chengdu truly is a relaxing city!
