Love the experience, lots of panda’s there. The day we were there wasn’t too crowed. The apps were easy to use, live tracking was great, able to follow the 2.5 hrs tour and visit all location without issues.

This place is a must-see!! It's a huge space with pandas and other animals. Even the rainy weather wasn't a problem.

I had an amazing visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and highly recommend it to anyone coming to Chengdu. I booked my own ticket online and added the keychain option, then took a Didi to and from the base which made the trip incredibly convenient. I also rented the audio guide at the information center for 30 yuan, which added useful context as I explored the different panda habitats. It’s important to arrive early ideally between 7:30am and 10am because pandas follow natural resting cycles and become far less active as the day heats up. Arriving during the morning feeding time lets you see them eating, climbing, and playing before they nap for most of the afternoon. The areas with the highest number of pandas are the Sunshine (Sun) and Moonlight (Moon) Enclosures, as well as the popular Panda Nursery where younger pandas are often visible. Overall it was an unforgettable experience and absolutely worth the early start.

Panda Breeding & Conservation at Chengdu Base

Panda Breeding & Conservation at Chengdu Base

The base is a global leader in giant panda breeding, with a 90% success rate in captive breeding. Key conservation efforts include:

  • Cub Rearing: Newborn pandas are cared for in nurseries (mothers often raise one cub, while the other is hand-reared to ensure survival). Cubs stay in nurseries until they’re 1–2 years old, when they move to adult villas.
  • Wildness Training: Selected pandas undergo training in the base’s “Panda Valley” (a separate facility) to prepare for potential reintroduction to the wild.
  • Research Collaboration: The base partners with international organizations (e.g., WWF) to study panda genetics, diet, and habitat protection—helping to increase the wild panda population from 1,114 (1988) to over 1,800 today.

Facilities: The hotel is a bit old-fashioned, with decor leaning towards a 2010s style. The walls aren't well-maintained, showing noticeable water stains and discoloration. Cleanliness: Acceptable. I didn't find any major hygiene issues. Environment: The air circulation in the room was poor. Windows could be opened, but only slightly, though it wasn't stifling. The hotel's location is excellent, right in the city center and close to attractions like Wenshu Monastery, Qingyang Palace, and Chunxi Road. Service: I appreciate that they upgraded my room when I checked in. There were welcome fruits and snacks, but the drinks in the minibar and tea bags were all chargeable. The Chinese restaurant offers Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine, which was average in taste but not expensive. Overall, there wasn't much in terms of service, but considering the low price, it's not fair to compare it to the service standards of high-end five-star chains. Overall, I was quite satisfied.

I stayed at this hotel around the same time last year. The location is excellent, no doubt about that. I remember my first stay wasn't great because during peak hours, the elevators were completely inadequate; I often had to wait several minutes for one. This year, I stayed again, and the elevator issue has been resolved – the front desk told me they installed new ones. And as always, the service was wonderfully warm. As soon as I got out of the car, staff greeted me and helped with my luggage to the front desk for check-in. The front desk's smiling service also deserves high praise, and even when I ran into staff in the elevator, they would immediately smile and greet me. Overall, while the hotel facilities are dated, their exceptional service really makes up for that shortcoming, making it still a very good experience.

Pros: Wifi was really good here with super fast connection as compared to some other hotels I have been in China. Breakfast is decent. Pool looks nice. Location is good and easy to get a taxi. Overall pretty clean. Nice to have washing machine in the room. Robot for food deliveries. Cons: We did not seem to be able to adjust the aircon temperature to our desired level and had to resort to opening the curtains and windows fully at times. Sometimes, the food delivery driver is not able to use the robot so we had to collect it downstairs ourselves. Overall: Would recommend!

Our stay at JW Marriott was fantastic! The hygiene was impeccable; both our room and the Garden were spotless, surrounded by lush greenery, and we even spotted adorable kittens, which was incredibly therapeutic. The facilities were incredibly thoughtful, with a cute panda plushie in the room, turndown chocolates, and a complimentary mini-fridge – perfect attention to detail. Breakfast coffee had exquisite latte art, the noodles were incredibly authentic, and the specialty lounge offered a fantastic selection. Special shout-outs to Guest Relations Officer Michelle and Front Desk's Nancy! Michelle provided attentive and timely assistance throughout our stay, responding to our needs promptly and thoughtfully. Nancy handled our check-in efficiently and professionally, and her smile was so uplifting. Their excellent service made our trip feel incredibly warm, and every detail and experience was flawless. An Unforgettable Stay ! True 5-Star Experience at The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu Our last two nights in Chengdu were truly the highlight of our trip !An experience that perfectly lived up to its Forbes 5-star reputation. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. The doorman greeted us warmly, remembered my surname, and personally delivered our luggage to our room. But what truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding service from Meria, the guest relations manager. She was like our personal concierge , helping to deliver my parcels from the concierge to our room, assisting us with getting prescription medicine late at mid of night, and even sending thoughtful gifts like fresh fruit and panda bookmarks. Every detail reflected genuine care and professionalism. Staying here with my parents was an absolute joy , the comfort, warmth, and attentiveness made us feel completely at home. I can confidently say that The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu is the pinnacle of all the hotels I’ve stayed in. Thank you, Meria, and the entire Ritz-Carlton team, for making our family trip to Chengdu such a memorable one. ❤️

For my trip to Chengdu from late October to early November, I chose Anyi Xinliang Hotel for the third time. It has truly become my 'second home' in this city. The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic – close to the subway, making transportation super convenient. It makes getting around effortless and efficient. What truly impresses me, though, is the homelike comfort it offers. The cleanliness is reassuring, and it's both safe and quiet, completely addressing all my worries about accommodation while traveling. The reception and staff's attitude is incredibly warm; every detail feels thoughtful and comforting. Three stays, three times satisfied. The hotel's location is excellent, surrounded by popular attractions like Taikoo Li, Chunxi Road, Kuanzhai Alley, Jinli, Tianfu Square, and People's Park! Downstairs, there's a vibrant atmosphere with plenty of delicious Chengdu snacks. The front desk staff are welcoming, and the rooms are clean, tidy, and comfortable! Breakfast offers a wide variety and good quality. The underground parking is convenient for those traveling by car. Overall, I'm very satisfied! A small suggestion: due to the high number of guests, breakfast can get quite crowded, sometimes making seating a bit tight, and the staff occasionally struggle to keep up with clearing tables.

Facilities: Well, it's an old hotel, so the facilities definitely can't compare to those opened in recent years. However, you can tell that in its prime, it was considered a luxury hotel. Everything is well-equipped, and they even have hotel robots, which is very convenient. Hygiene: As a hotel, cleanliness is fundamental. My personal habit is to check the hygiene situation everywhere upon entering. I must say, big hotels are reliable; everything was very clean. The only thing was a small hole I noticed in the bedsheet, probably from being washed too many times or worn out. I hope the hotel can pay a little more attention to checking these things. Environment: The hotel's surroundings are not a bustling area. Although it's next to a road, it's relatively quiet. The only inconvenience is that there are no shops nearby the hotel, or maybe I just didn't see them. Service: The front desk lady was warm and attentive. She reminded me of the breakfast location and other important information. After checking out, the hotel even called to follow up on my stay and any issues. The window in my room was slightly warped and wouldn't close completely. I had originally planned to mention it in a review, but after telling them during the follow-up call, the hotel said they would immediately contact the engineering department to inspect and resolve the issue. This professional work ethic and responsible attitude alone deserve a five-star rating. Overall: The hotel has been open for a long time, so the overall experience might not be as good as a new hotel. However, for less than 300 (RMB) with breakfast included, I am very satisfied. A very good stay experience!

During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, our whole family stayed at The St. Regis Chengdu. The Deluxe Twin Room we booked was spacious and bright, with comfortable and cozy bedding. The shower also featured a sitting bath, which was very convenient for the elderly. For the Mid-Autumn Festival, the hotel thoughtfully provided complimentary mooncakes and fruit. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet spot but still conveniently close to popular areas like Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li commercial districts, Daci Temple, and the Chengdu Museum. The room was very clean and well-equipped, with both regular and plush slippers provided. The only minor issue was the shower faucet, which took a little getting used to at first. The mattress, duvet, and pillows were all clean and comfortable. The breakfast was well-balanced and nutritious, with a variety of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices available daily – I particularly loved the carrot and ginger juice. The location is convenient for transportation, and it's easy to hail a taxi. I only found out on the second night that there's also a direct shuttle service to major attractions in Chengdu; it would have been great if there was a card in the room providing this information.

The staff initially offered me a room upgrade for an additional 300 yuan, and I accepted. However, after entering the room, I realized it was much larger than necessary since I was traveling alone, so I decided to cancel the upgrade — the staff was very understanding about it. The breakfast was good, and the hotel is conveniently located right in the center of the walking street. There’s also a spa inside the hotel. It was quite crowded during check-in time, and it would be better if the staff helped manage the queue, as some guests were cutting in line while no staff seemed to notice or intervene.

I spent 9 days in Chengdu and stayed 8 consecutive nights at this hotel. I was extremely satisfied, primarily because of its incredibly convenient transportation. Dongmen Bridge Metro Station is right outside the hotel entrance, and there's a Luckin Coffee and a 7-Eleven convenience store right next door. The hotel's prime location made it possible to do a round trip to Mount Emei in a single day without needing a tour group. Destinations like Dujiangyan, Panda Valley, Qingcheng Mountain, Leshan, and Sanxingdui were all easily done as day trips, allowing us to return to the hotel each evening. Whether you're heading to Xipu or Chengdu East Station, Metro Line 2, right in front of the hotel, offers direct access! I don't recommend upgrading your room; the standard one is perfectly fine. This is because the hotel's room categories are determined by floor height, not by size. Executive rooms and the most basic rooms actually have the same square footage, just on a higher floor. Hotel service was excellent. The gym is open 24 hours, and the pool operates from 1 PM to 10 PM. And finally, the beef noodles at breakfast were absolutely delicious – my travel companion had them for three mornings straight!

We specifically chose the Intercontinental for its proximity to the water park, perfect for the kids. Its location right next to SKP is ideal, and the five-star service truly lives up to expectations. The price of 1500 per night during the National Day holiday felt quite reasonable. It's supposedly the world's largest single building, and it really is impressive. The front desk arranged a room very close to the water park entrance. Since we had a child, we had a lot of small, scattered items, and the concierge was incredibly patient and helpful with packing them up. Our butler, Coco, was also incredibly gentle, thoughtful, and provided excellent service. She arranged for us to have breakfast in the executive area and even gave the kids a small gift. She also readily provided band-aids when we needed them. Because we checked in a bit late on the first day and missed the water park, Coco kindly extended our check-out until 4 PM the next day, which allowed us to have a fantastic time! However, I do have a few minor suggestions. While the overall service experience was excellent, the hotel is a bit old, and some of the facilities are showing their age. The sofa covers and the fabric on the outdoor lounge chairs in the courtyard looked stained and quite dirty. The soundproofing in the room also left a bit to be desired. Additionally, the route from the Universal parking lot to the hotel entrance didn't seem very clearly planned; several ride-hailing drivers had trouble finding it, and one even drove around twice before giving up and having us walk the rest of the way. Overall, for anyone looking to enjoy the water park and shop at SKP, it's definitely worth a stay!

We stayed here after seeing Chunchun's concert. The environment was better than a typical youth hostel. The quadruple room was very spacious, with a private bathroom and air conditioning. It was quiet and not crowded. Mr. Zhou at the front desk was warm and friendly, and the service was excellent. It was a pleasant trip. 😍

First time in Chengdu, and I really felt the warmth of the ladies here. The front desk staff were incredibly enthusiastic and their service attitude was spot on. They were quick to help with any issues. The hotel has a laundry room and ironing facilities, and they can even heat things up for you in the microwave. Sichuan people are truly warm-hearted! The location is also excellent and easy to find, with IFS and Taikoo Li and other attractions very close by. Absolutely love the big screen!

The hotel was amazing. The room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. I booked a room with a bath pool, and I enjoyed it every day. Amenities such as coffee pods, bottled water, toothpaste, etc. were refilled daily. The breakfast was very tasty and had good variety. The reception was very responsive, and even though I don't speak Chinese,I didn't have any issues with communication using wechat. The location was also great, with restaurants and food carts next door, a great coffee place, and some shops that looked more local. It's also walking distance from the very touristic Chunxi street. I would definitely stay again!

An incredibly convenient airport transit option with surprisingly easy access! I chose this hotel to catch an early morning flight, and its convenience was off the charts—the subway station is right outside the door, so I could just walk a few steps with my luggage to the station without having to search for it in the sun. Even better, it's incredibly close to the airport. I pre-booked the hotel's airport shuttle service, and it only took about ten minutes to get to the passenger terminal. No need to get up in the dark to rush to my destination in the morning—it's so convenient for people catching flights! The room was clean and tidy, and the price was great. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I have an early morning flight!

during my trip to Chengdu I stayed for 9 days in Zenac international Hotel. The hotel location is fantastic situated in the city of Chunxi Road near Metro line 2 & 3 exit E1. From airport you could take transfer from Chengdu tianfu airport bus line 1 toward city direction alight at the junction of IFS building (under Panda 🐼 chunxi road). It’s about a 7mins walk less than 380m u can reach out the hotel. However the hotel lobby entrance is not facing the main road you can still easily excess to the hotel. The hotel signage is brightly spotted on top of the building is in chinese words so you can search to match the chinese characters. the building is just beside Adidas shop. When I checked into my room was upgraded with daily breakfast and full room amenities. The services from front desk was excellent especially 销售总监,华少 had offered to assist in solving my little issues. Daily housekeeping王玉梅 has provided an excellent services throughout my stayed. Thank to all of you.👍

Every afternoon we enjoyed delicious tea and snacks, and honestly… we loved them so much that it became a highlight of our day. • Late Checkout Like a Dream ⏰💤 — They surprised us with a very nice late checkout, which meant more time to relax and enjoy our trip without rushing. The hospitality was warm, thoughtful, and absolutely beyond expectations. This wasn’t just a stay — it was pure panda-city magic. Highly recommend this hotel if you want comfort, great perks, and that extra touch of kindness that makes travel amazing! 🌏❤️

This patio room feels especially perfect for couples – very romantic with a small, stylish patio. It's located near the inner courtyard, so it's quite quiet. I could easily spend half a day just lounging on the patio, and then head out to find some great food nearby. We're talking places like Dongzikou Zhang Lao Er, Yantaipo Guokui, Yang Boying Traditional Zajiang Mian, Jimadian, and Kanjian Hot Pot – all within walking distance! Super convenient. After eating, it's time for some shopping around the area, followed by tea to help digest. The hotel is excellent! Thumbs up! I highly recommend staying here. The staff are all very enthusiastic. When we checked out, they gave us a small gift and asked us to write a review, but honestly, I would have written a good review even without the gift. That's how comfortable our stay was.

Jinjiang Hotel is a classic and well-established hotel in Chengdu. Its central location, right by the Jinjiang River, makes it incredibly convenient for getting to any destination. Despite not being a high-rise, it offers expansive views and beautiful scenery. While the room decor might be a bit dated, it still maintains a dignified and elegant charm. Both the cleanliness and service were excellent; we not only received fresh fruit but also a complimentary congee on our first night. What's truly impressive is that they still provide turn-down service, a thoughtful touch that many star hotels have discontinued. Upon arrival, we were also gifted an adorable little panda souvenir, complete with the Jinjiang tag – it was absolutely charming! Excellent value for money. Special thanks to Managers Zeng Ying and Liu Hongyuan, and our server Rao Xiaoying. Although we didn't meet them in person, their excellent service truly made us feel right at home.

From the moment I stepped in, the exquisite lobby design was a visual marvel, with elegant art pieces beautifully complemented by soft lighting. The dining was superb; whether it was the extensive buffet spread or the refined dishes at the Chinese restaurant, everything was unforgettable, featuring fresh ingredients and masterful cooking. The hotel's recreational facilities were also outstanding – the gym had state-of-the-art equipment, the pool water was crystal clear, and the spa services were incredibly soothing. The staff were warm and attentive, promptly responding to every request, truly embodying five-star quality. I highly recommend it to everyone!

I stayed in Chengdu for two days, and this hotel was by far the best. The decor is luxurious and grand, and despite its age, it's very well-maintained. I booked a standard room on the 11th floor for three nights. **The Good:** The bellhops were excellent, very attentive and quick to anticipate needs. The front desk staff were friendly and made check-in a pleasant experience with some engaging small talk. The hotel staff I contacted via WeChat beforehand responded instantly and provided timely assistance. Room cleaning was meticulous and prompt; I drink a lot of coffee, and they always replenished it without delay. The overall facilities felt new, and breakfast was superb. The gym was absolutely fantastic! The Smith machine was incredibly smooth, and there were three bench press stations. Towels and bottled water were provided on each machine. I did fasted strength training every morning, and almost every time I visited, I saw cleaning staff wiping down the equipment. They even had Pilates equipment. My workouts were high-quality every day. The location was very convenient, with direct access to a shopping mall from B1. I was there purely to enjoy the hotel, and dining and shopping were incredibly easy. **The Not-So-Good:** 1. For all three nights of our stay, we heard someone singing downstairs starting from the first evening. After raising this with the hotel, we found out it was a street performer with a large speaker, who only stopped around 10:30 PM. After my initial feedback, I expressed hope that this wouldn't happen again the next day. The hotel even sent a fruit platter as an apology. However, the singing started again promptly at 8 PM the following day. That evening, the hotel offered us a room change, but it was quite late, and we were genuinely tired, so we just put up with it. I understand that the hotel can't control what people do outside on the street, and they are somewhat helpless in this situation. However, as a guest paying over 1,000 RMB per night, having to endure this unavoidable noise was truly frustrating. 2. On our last night, my mom was bitten by bed bugs. She killed the bug and showed it to the staff. I also believe that ”sh*t happens” and it's a low-probability, unavoidable incident. But it's genuinely something that shouldn't occur at a hotel of W's caliber. The hotel staff addressed it immediately, and in the end, they gave us two panda plush toys (which just made us laugh). **In summary:** I really liked this hotel overall, and it's truly a pity about these issues.

The hotel's location is excellent and very convenient, just a 10-minute taxi ride from the high-speed train station. The room was clean and tidy, and the mattress was soft and comfortable, though the shower stall was a bit small. The breakfast food was delicious, offering both Western and Chinese options. The service was great; the front desk staff was very patient, and all the doormen were wonderful. It rained the two days we were in Chengdu, and every time we got in or out of a car, the staff would hold an umbrella for us, which was very heartwarming.

Environment: The room was clean, tidy, and quiet, with plenty of space. It even came with a foot bath bucket, and there was a sofa at the foot of the bed, perfect for a foot soak. Facilities: The in-room projector came with a complimentary streaming service membership, which was a nice touch. There was also a fridge stocked with free Coca-Cola and Sprite. Hygiene: The hygiene was impeccable, and the tea area right off the elevator looked very high-end. Service: The service was truly excellent. They left a very thoughtful note. My clothes were washed and delivered back to the room, hung up, which made traveling worry-free. The breakfast was a set menu, very hearty, and tasted great. They even provided complimentary fruit.

I'm usually quite lazy and rarely leave reviews for hotels, but this place genuinely impressed me. The front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. When we mentioned we were tourists, they immediately offered a brochure detailing various sightseeing routes, which we found very helpful (we even snapped a photo!). As it was our first time in Chengdu, we were unsure where to eat, and they enthusiastically recommended some fantastic local eateries; the food they suggested was indeed delicious. With all the nearby *chuanchuan* (Sichuan skewers), Sichuan cuisine, and hotpot, we came back to the hotel one evening smelling distinctly of hotpot. Wanting to get some early rest, we asked the front desk if they could help dry our clothes and return them to our room the next morning. They agreed without a moment's hesitation, which was incredibly thoughtful and considerate. The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was also delicious, especially the *chaoshou* (Sichuan wontons). The staff in the restaurant were very attentive and provided great service too. Our initial reason for booking this hotel was its geographical location, and it truly lived up to our expectations. It's perfectly situated, very close to all the major attractions such as Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Kuanzhai Alley, Wenshu Monastery, Wuhou Shrine, Jinli Ancient Street, and more. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying travel experience. Chengdu, with its vibrant city atmosphere and rich cultural environment, left a wonderful impression on us. FAQs about Chengdu Panda Base

  • Is the Chengdu Panda Base worth visiting?

Yes—It’s the best place to see giant pandas up close, learn about conservation, and meet famous pandas like Hua Hua. The well-maintained habitats and educational exhibits make it a memorable experience for all ages.
  • Which is the best panda base in Chengdu?

Chengdu Panda Base is the most convenient (closest to downtown) and popular for seeing cubs and famous pandas. Dujiangyan Panda Base offers panda “keeper experiences” (e.g., cleaning enclosures), while Wolong Panda Base is in a more natural mountain setting (2 hours from Chengdu).
  • Is it better to go to Chengdu Panda Base in the morning or afternoon?

Morning (7:30–10:00 AM) is better—pandas are more active, and crowds are smaller. Afternoons are hotter (pandas retreat indoors) and busier, but quieter for visiting the museum.
  • How long to spend at Dujiangyan Panda Base?

Plan 3–4 hours—Dujiangyan offers more interactive experiences (e.g., panda keeper programs) and a more scenic, less crowded setting than Chengdu Panda Base.
  • Which is better: Dujiangyan or Wolong Panda Base?

Dujiangyan is better for interactive experiences (keeper programs) and convenience (1 hour from Chengdu). Wolong is better for a natural, remote setting (2 hours from Chengdu) and seeing pandas in semi-wild habitats—ideal for nature lovers.
  • Can I hug a baby panda at Chengdu Panda Base?

No—Chengdu Panda Base does not offer panda-hugging to protect the cubs’ health and reduce stress. However, you can book “keeper experiences” at Dujiangyan Panda Base (for a fee) to interact with pandas (e.g., feeding, cleaning enclosures)—advance booking is required.
